ECU remap did it for me (TeK2)...Don't have to wait until next year for car to pick up from low down!

First (and only time so far) I really had a panic and "took off" at high revs and planted the clutch was at a roundabout in Newcastle when the car on the right (on the roundabout) was about to hit me.....

Can't imagine the clutch and drivetrain surviving too many of those...like the Enterprise at Warp speed !!!

my first 2 cars were 16valves so i was used to it pulling quickly on low revs, when i had the rex, (turbo) i didn't know the turbo kicks in at high revs, so imagine the shock when at a red light i had the clutch downish(biting point) and revs over 4-5 revs.
and guess what....rather than let the clutch off gently my left foot jerked off ,gee that g -force which pushed me back on my seat was scarey .

fun though ( guess i learn things the hard way)
ps don't try this at home,

don't some of the big boys (talking vipers etc level with high torque engines) get the thing rolling very slightly before nailing the throttle?

this means they overcome the massive torque spike on the transmission from sidestepping the clutch at zero road speed and also take out all the backlash in the drivetrain so everything's going the same way and "connected up" - no small gaps to create impact loadings and fatigue bits...

with a bit of practice I think you can get decent starts without "too" much stress on the system...

usual disclaimers - try at your own risk etc

Apple sounds like what racing drivers call a "granny start". It's a good technique for those lacking traction or taking it easy on the car. I tend to do these mostly as I'm driving on the road and don't need ultimate speed, plus the cars still quick enough to nail most things from a standing start once its fully spooled up. For ultimate standing quarter times I think you need to be fairly brutal as described by P20SPD.

at my last 1/4 mile meet all my best times (including 60 foot times) i got using the following technique.

hold revs at 6000rpm then lift clutch up real quick (also did a few side steps which launched just the same)

tried a few lauches at about 4000rpm - got less or no wheel spin but my times werent as quick.

WARNING:Ive just had to have a new gearbox fitted! LOL

Yep..sidestepping aint to good.....

Just got the care back from RC developments the other week, it had been in for a serious power hike, Apexi Power FC, AVC-R, de cat and down pipe, AP clutch, lots of other toys......anyway..

went round to my friends house to "show off", he has just bought a crash damaged Subaru, so he wanted to see what it was like when the power is increased....fair enough, so i handed him the keys...

everything was fine, gave it a hammering down the back roads........very impresive......pulled up at the lights......he hit 5k and side stepped the clutch......BANG!!!! whole car shook and it literaly bolted off the line........Unreal traction.....WOW.....got the car back and decided to drive home...pulled into my road,, and let the car slowdown on overun........JESUS..sounded like i had just put it in first gear at 70mph...!!!!!!!! TOTALED my gear box.....sincro had died big time...............£450 later...new box......not much fun at all.......but hes a good mate and sorted it with no quarms at all....so no harm done.....

all the best
