Unhappy

I had an accident on that corner in 98 in my Scoob !

My sympathies go to the driver ! Its not a happy occurrence ! I am just glad that he and his partner are not to badly hurt ! I am sure they will feel the sores for a few days or weeks yet, but am glad that sores is all they got ! As for the car, well its repairable ! doesnt actually look THAT bad ! I have seen far worse repaired and back on the road safely and legally ! Hope the insurance dela with it quickly and effectively, and its back on the road as soon as possible !

The fact it is an Evo should not have anything to do with comments like "should have known better" etc etc we are all human, all like performance cars of one shape or another. Mistakes are made, lessons are learnt ! (well usually)

Ill go back to my shoe box !

Cool

Dont worry Moses, no-one was deliberatly messing it up. Our convoy was gently taking the bends on the sliproad (and we really were going gently too) and Clint seemed to hit a patch of oil/grease and well you know the rest. Twas a bit scary TBH as we were only pootling at the time.......

So that is what it is like on the track
It may look slow from the sidelines, but it feels bl00dy fast
behind the wheel
The car felt a bit skitish on the track and my brakes werent
up to the job. Still, i managed to get round without any incidents.
Its a pity their werent many trade stands there, but it was great
to see so many scoobies attended.
Here's to the next big meet.
Oh and thanks to tony for showing me the sideways technique
for scrubing off speed

Question

davek, did you get any video of the session before the EVO incident (B session) which was the first Scooby session?

I agree with RRH (Simon) no one seemed to take note of the moderate siting laps, I'm glad I wasn't hooning it into quarries on the first lap otherwise my car would be on a tow truck too.

Where?

Our little MX-5 convoy had a spinner joining joining the dual carriageway leaving the M4. Driver didn't understand why and put it down to grease. We certainly weren't pushing it.

Oh, and if anyone has any mx-5 photos or video let me know, especially of me (full roll cage) or the scooby eater - you know who...

Did ya catch a glimpse of the MX-5 turbo, out doing some evil laps?? Think he was a trackday pro or summit, but he was hounding a scooby at about 2:30... was great to watch!! The evos were awesome, and the supra that went out early on looked like it was breezing round with no effort at all! The pulsar trying to catch had no hope! Wicked day out, and shame could'nt go on track cos 1. Slipping clutch, and 2. Was friggin wet! Bit pointless... rwd, r engine... spinnnnnnning!

I know that that MX-5 had 240bhp and some sticky dunlop cut slicks on.

I was told that the driver competes in ascar. The brief occasions I saw the battle it looked fun, but I had to move out of the way pretty sharpish as they came through.

Did anyone see one of the MX5 blow an engine (at least it looked like it with all the smoke) just after quarry?

Also Escort Cosworth laying it down like no tomorrow, including all the power slides and the spin off again at quarry - fantastic. The driver really knew his stuff.

I was the guy in the P1 having a 2 and 8 with the black mx-5, he was well quick, didn't realise he raced, only down side was he was overtaking in brake ares which in briefing was described as a yellow card offence, however, he was quick and the session was fun. Thanks to all the other mx-5 drivers who moved out the way a bit sharpish.
I had 6 sessions and saw a lot of moments. The green mx-5 blew in front of me going into the esses, a mr2 supercharged spun in front out of the esses and an evo6 gave out going into bobbies. Had a great day and the driving was mostly a very good standard, ta to sidc etc etc

Was that evo6 the red one? I came across that crawling along at about the time you shot past me. Then half a lap later he took me back, near the pits again he slows to a crawl, I get half way past and he speeds up again. I didn't see him after that. I assume he was having some sort of technical problem.

Happy to move out of the way. I'm convinced that session was a bit longer than it should've been thanks to you and the MX-5 pleasing the crowd. Rent-a-mob turned up at the mx-5oc stand afterwards to find out about that car.

Yes the red evo blew after 2 laps, crawlled back to pits.
It was fun, ta for moving
Wondered what is was at first, quite a few people came to me afterwards and said how much they enjoyed watching, although i did get a bit of grief from some scoobies cuz i couldn't shake off a mx-5, nice to know it was a turbo'd one and an experienced driver

(there's always someone making a stupid comment - that's what happens in such a large community - just ignore it and read the good stuff )

Excellent day at Japfest, we were looking at getting a little old mx-5 to "play" with to replace our run-around, I need a new project Idea being to turn it into a little track car - seeing the mx-5 crowd there was excellent! Only increased my need! Def. want one with proper rolebars though, so lifechooser - I will probably be along to the mx-5 boards soon to annoy you all

Glad everyone in the Evo's were ok, looked bad at first but glad to hear it's all repairable Hopefully see them both back on track at an event soon

Steve777,

if you think Castel Combe is not demanding then you aren't driving hard enough.

Quarry is one of the most challenging corners in the UK and the corner at the far end - 90mph off camber with only a tyre wall for company.

It may be a boring circuit, but these two corners alone (especially in the wet) make it worth the visit.

The last Scooby driver who thought it was easy when I was there wrote off his Scoob in Quarry. Buried it up the the drivers door handles, in the tyre wall, backwards!

Had a great day....Did anyone see the grey Evo IV giving it large with bright red, nearly melting disks..? Respect goes out o that GT4 driver that came close to the yellow skyline that lost it on the corner.....they were facing each other in the end.

That escort cossie (leyland), loads of power but must of come off or hit another car as the wing was damaged and had to retire. Can't believe how quick it was......

Some nice scoobies was seen too.....

Regards

Kev

Hi Kev
Martins Escort (reyland) one of his slicks shreaded/melted and took the wing off. he never hit no one .. he also had an offski aswell ...he hit the tyre wall also but got away with just a broken back light...

He is only running 1.4 bar of boost at the moment he is happy about the way the car performed tho, he isn't running full boost at the moment he haveing a bit of trouble controlling the boost.... it will be a fast car when it's fully sorted

on full boost with race fuel.. his car his can produce a genuine 627 bhp...@ 2.1 bar

the car on normal optimax 98 ron @ 2.1 bar boost can produce a genuine 575 bhp .... none of these figures are fictional..they are real..

don't think this engine is all top end stuff ...it has a 5.5k power band... the turbo can pull from as little as 2.800/3.000 rpm

the engine isn't like the the rally x engines .. .that start @ 5.000 rmp and ends @ 8.500/9.000 rpm.. that kind of engine would have been to laggy for him..

he didn't want to go for an engine like that he wanted an engine to pull low down for track days and normal useage

so basically it's very driveable on the road and the track

it is a proper car really
