I have had only had the chance of driving at a few tracks so far, donno ,oulten, curbra, llandow AND I am simply gob smacked at the STUPIDY of track design

Its not rocket science, just work out how fast most things (will be reaching and how much run of will be needed, add a little extra, and THEN have kitty litter or what ever impact devices needed.

BUT ALASS our safety is second to the big buck

Hi all again, Nacro I started to put a little more power down then hit a slippy bit, did try to get out of spin, then you know what happened, I did speak to a few people and they all said that part of the M4 is always oily and slippery (nice to know that now! )a lot people have said also they have done the same as I did.
My lovely girlfriend let me off she dosn't shout at me any more I think she might be used to it, but it's true that you learn from your mistakes.

You've got a good attitude Clint we live and learn but that kind of freak accident could happen to anyone.

Main thing is you are both OK.

As someone who has raced at Castle Combe since 1984, I think I'm entitled to point out that he made a classic error, in not following the correct racing line. The approach to Avon Rise has to be taken well to the right, then switch to the left in a straight line under braking, so as to clip the edge of the track on the left hand side, and aim for a very late apex to the corner. Failure to do this results in the adverse camber nature of Quarry tipping one right into the barrier. He failed to read the road correctly, and paid the penalty. I've seen this happen a hundred times, so he's in good company. The track is virtually the same as it's been since its use as a wartime airfield, apart from a couple of recent chicanes, and doesn't need changing !
I have every sympathy for someone who writes off a nice car in those circumstances, and I'd be happy to advise anyone who needs to know how to tackle that circuit. I regularly track day a Cosworth 3 Door there nowadays.

Alan,

I've just read what you've written and in fairness, I agree with what your saying. The bump on the braking area into the first left is savage, if not approached from the extreme right. I have done Castle Combe in my RB5 a couple of time, and I've never really got that corner right. Nozzer (who took me around in his P1) was as close to the grass as possible over the hump under braking. When I was driving I was further left and instantly the back of the car became light and unbalanced into the first left and all wrong the following right Struggling with it. Nozzer showed me a quicker smoother route over that little ******* part of the track.

Anyway, I'd love to come to Castle Combe and you take me around in the Cossie. I live 5 miles away and would appreciate your help

Japfest, what a crap day.
Weather was crap, stands and stalls were even worse.
Racing was'nt bad though, LOL for the boys in the silver scoob who decided to drive the odd lap with a cone under the car, that must have made some serious noise. OOPs

Overall I wish I had'nt bothered.

PS The trade stands were a little disappointing, although the one there weren't that bad. Just needed to be loads more

Clint, I have every sympathy for you, I was with the MX5's on Saturday. On the way there, comming off the M4, I hit a patch of slippy stuff and managed a 360 spin whilst in convoy. Its not a fun experience, but as previously stated the main thing is that you and the Mrs were unhurt.

Ben, Are you sure you weren't just trying to hang the back end out to scare Andy a bit...

No, I saved that for the track. The spin with 5 full rotations on the grass at Bobbies was fun though. (First session of the day, still very wet.)

If you want to continue this banter can i suggest we do it at http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/mx5forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1349 and leve these nice scooby people in peace.

Red face

Parp clean pair of pants time
Can sympathise with Clint, i have also lost the back end on a turn/roundabout & it is mucho scarey & i was lucky to avoid solid objects. Feel better now it inspired me to get decent rubber & bigger wheels but still if u hit sumin slippy not always possible to escape
That evo was seemingly going very quick & while im no expert surely any bump etc on track woodn't affect braking that much? A BIG OUCH thou
Now where r those track days &/or skid pans u can do in sum1 elses car?
Si

Interesting andy, it's hard to believe someone is dumb enough to think he actually pulled his handbrake up on a motorway sliproad.
Thankfully most of the others know what they're talking about.
