Cool

These premiums sound really good, but what areas are people being quoted for? I moved from deepest darkest wiltshire to somewhere too close to Slough, and the renewal premium quote has gone up significantly. Has anyone been quoted similar good prices for cover based near somewhere like Slough?

Timmy Tato - Im surprised at Tesco being so pricey with the £2000 quote.

Im a 23 year old IT consultant from Cheshire, i got an RB5 Subaru with the WR (PPP) pack. my insurance is £940pa with Tesco.

Car is garaged with an RAC tracker - but it does have all the Prodrive mods.

I think some of these compnaies who are give out really stupidly cheap quotes (like mine) arn't too sure what these cars are or are capable of ! :P

Reading with interest that L&V haven't insured partners under 30 since April.

Is this if both drivers are under 30 as I will be 30 in a matter of weeks (*sad about getting on* *happy about cheaper insurance*) and wondered if they would consider me and the misses who is 26 ?

Right, you lot make me paranoid, so just dug out the policy and checked.

Me and the wife, both dates of birth correct, august and october 1975. Letter acknowledging mods as well.

So there you go, although i do live in a very reasonable York postcode

Andy_Razz - maybe because mine's a jap import? Also as MorayMackenzie says area will affect the quote - I'm in Essex which is ganster land. As always there are lots that affect the quote, points on your license, where its kept over night etc - but I agree about some companies (or maybe its potluck as to the nice young lady you get on the phone) not fully realising what we've got.

jonb2010 - I'm 38 and my other half is 28 and they said no because of the type of car. I didn't push this, whether that meant any Impreza or just my jap import.

Steven - we believe you!

The deal seems to have been if you are taking out a policy in the last couple of months, this 30 age limit comes into effect.

I'll now make you paranoid though - where do you stand next year when you want to renew? I reckon they'll honour you as an existing customer

Oh yeah, one thing A-Plan said when I spoke to them and mentioned the L+V quote, was that without the mods listed then they reckon any claim wont cover the mods.

This maybe be obvious to some people, and you maybe happy running the risk, but just thought I'd mention it.

With regard to not covering the mods do you mean in the final value of the car if it is totalled and you have to claim ?

Most insurance companies I would expect would not reimburse a value which included mods you had made. If you look at most ads on Autotrader their is not really a lot of difference in the prices between standard and modified cars. A lot of people don't want anything that is modified.

I am just going of ona tangent now before I know what you meant

Quite interesting I have just done a quick quote with Tesco to see how much difference being 30 will make to my insurance.

Not got an Impreza yet (waiting to sell MR2 first http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?threadid=215727) so just entered a standard UK year 2000 4 door Turbo with a value of about £10,000 and an RAC tracker.
By changing me date of birth by a year I managed to save a massive......................wait for it...................
.................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ..............
£7.

However keeping my age at 29 and changing my no claims from 4 to 5 years took it down to £599 which is a reduction of £84 which is not very much for driving very carefully ;-)

God I am getting quite random in my old age

jonb2010 - just wait until you're in your 30's when the brain cells really start to drop off, along with the memory.

Anyhow, I've never had to claim (at least with a car that's had mods done), so won't know what to expect but the message I was getting was that the car would be valued exc- the mods (yeah, if totalled). Maybe that's the same even for those with listed mods - don't know?

So with mods it's harder to sell? Is that because of people not wanting to expose themselves to the insurance or simply because it's been tinkered with. Fair enough I guess, I'd want some reassurance the mods are kosher if I was buying.

I obtained my quote on the 30th April to start on the 1st May, THIS YEAR, ie 1 month ago.

The info i have says they will pay the market value of modifications in the event of a total loss, or theft of wheels, etc, as long as a valid receipt can be provided.

Market value of mods, is this the same as market value of car ie trade price? If so its still good value IMHO. I'll have to try them and maybe they can beat my £500 premium....
