If you want chocolate I've found some chocolate dipped strawberry nutrition bars.

They have 3g of impact carbs (the ones you count). They cost around £2.50 (GNC have a 20% discount on them).

Also found that L-Carnitine capsules help with fat dispersal, while appetitie supresants and supressants for sugar cravings really make a difference - L-Phenylalanine and N-Aceytl Cysteine (NAC).

Weighed myself this morning. Started monday morning, weighed myslef last on monday night. Have lost 7.5 lbs in just over 3 days. Lets just hope that carries on for the rest of the week.

Didnt expect as much as I have been naughty with quite a few cans of diet lilt which contains aspartame and a few splodges of ketchup here and there

Done my 2 weeks, lost 6lb. Had terrible cravings for pasta and had a bowl last night. Also had toast and jam this morning. Don't think I will be able to have a lifestyle of Atkins TBH. I'm sick of eggs, cheese, bacon and steak. Only thing I like now still is chicken.

I may try again soon, but I'm gonna see how I get on with smaller portions of my normal diet and no snacking in between meals.

I've been feeling really weak and run down this last week and find it a real struggle to even walk up stairs. This has prompted my comming off Atkins. I feel that it may be responsible. If after a couple of weeks, there is no change, I'll try again!!!

Good luck to everyone else!

This is my 3rd day, started on tuesday Still getting constant headaches Probably because I used to drink around 7 cups of milky tea a day with two sugars.. those were the days!

Feeling very tired this morning, lacking a lot of energy.

How does one use these ket strips??

I played 5-a-side footy on tuesday like I do every week and I was very lethargic. Am also getting sick of meat, cheese and eggs. My biggest craving is for maccy d's fries mmmmmm. Not sure if Ive lost the weight due to atkins or simply reducing what I eat. Will last out the week and see how much I have lost. I would be amazed if I drop below 13st. If I do it might be the boost I need to stay on this diet. Either way Im gonna cut alcohol out for quite a while.

The headache is likely to be caffine related and the tiredness is whilst your body's metabolism switches. You do get through it soon and then you should be fit as a fiddle

Right, so i'm underway. Omlette for brekky, tuna salad for lunch. So far so good - 7 hours and no cravings!

Though i understand the food i'm preparing myslef (shopping took bloody ages last night!) Where can i find out about bought foods though - specifically Curry - sauces in a restaurant could contain almost anything and i don't want to get it wrong.

Plus is there any ready prepared stuff from supermarkets low enough in carbs to be legal?

Unhappy

Regrettably after 4 days, I'm going to have to give up.

The diet has actually made me rather ill, although no cravings, headaches etc. Diareaha (sp!!) had kicked in along with stomach cramps

If anybody wants the books (that turned up today ), give me a shout, and you can have em for a knock-down price.....

Best of luck, but I'm going to give it a few days and go onto the Kellogs diet (2 x cereal meals, and a healthyl, balanced evening meal)

You cant be sure about anything really. From what I have read most stir fried chinese food should be ok as long as not drenched in a sweet sauce.

Curries seem to be very low carb but these are the ones Ive checked in Tescos. No idea how much is in one you get from your local curry house.

Question

Just read Scoobywon'ts message. Lots of nice options there. How about a Chicken Fu Yong? It's essentially a big omlette with chicken & onion in?

Glad to have been helpful.

I think they are guidelines for both supermarket and restaurant meals.

Only thing is I don't think I can have an indian meal without a beer

I've found keeping a simple diet diary spreadsheet handy. Just note down what you ate and when and you'll easily be able to plan what you can eat for the rest of the day.
It's also good for giving to a Personal Trainer - I've just hired an ex-Para to kick me into shape one hour per week.

I recommend viewing the official site at http://www.atkinscenter.net for more suggestions based on national food types e.g. Italian, Mexican, Spanish etc.

I really do recommend reading the actual orange Atkins Diet book and the green New Diet Cookbook. They tell you how you can include a few of the bad/banned foods into meals. Even lets you add wine/cognac to foods for extra flavour too.

Hold up.
I have just read through the sites and so forth and isn't this a direct rip off of the 12 week diet used by bodybuilders before competition ?.
All they have done is change a few details, but the principle appears to be exactly the same.
Any body biulders on here care to comment.

Wrong wrong wrong Tiggs!! Unfortunately!

Atkins is carb depletion. You can't starve your body of carbs forever. Mr Atkins, whoever he is, realised that flushing out the glycogen from the body, via non-intake of carbs, is the quickest way of ridding the body of weight. Have people PAID him for this wonderful insight??

When i competed, i could lose nearly a stone in the last week *just* by eating no carbs. It's not difficult.

But if you come off this "diet", and eat sensibly again, your muscles will replenish what you've starved them of, and the weight will almost always go back on.

For permanaent weight loss, you need to eat less and drink less alcohol, or exercise more. If you do both, the combined results are even greater.

No temporary diet which advocates cutting out a food group is ever going to achieve long-term results. But if it makes you feel better that you're doing something; fine, i can't argue with that.
