Anybody tried the Atkins Diet on here?

not much though, to be honest i'd be more worried about the diet coke.....it is very hard to kicj the addiction to sweet things.
i find it easier to go without anything sweet, i could have a chocky on the desk now and i'd rather chuck it out than eat it.
i have found in the past that the odd "treat" doesnt help.

Yeah well hardly any compared to a bloody great tub of rice and I'm not exactly eating a whole cauliflower and whole brocolli just some chopped up to mix in with the curry to absorb the sauce.
Next you will be telling me the lettuce I just ate is fattening

Tiggs the diet coke has 0g carbs tho. It might be sweet but surely 1 can of that a day isn't going to do me any harm. I know the asparatime or whatever its called isnt good for you but one can I will take the risk with. I have to have caffeine to give me a bit of a kick during the day cos I get up at 5am and dont get much sleep so without any I'd fall asleep at my desk, especially at the moment

It might do my body good m8 but not my head when it hits the floor from me falling asleep! Not kidding, was close to feinting while walking round the office earlier, legs just went wobbly. Had the can of diet coke and a ciggy and was much better Early night for me tonight I think cos don't need bad things like that happening

Well its all gone pear shaped now, had to abort the 'mission' yesterday lunchtime due to feeling really ill and it affecting me at work Nearly falling asleep on my motorbike wasn't particularly a good sign either plus I was being very grumpy which was commented on at home and at work.
Within 30mins to an hour of having a sandwich and mars bar I felt so much better and boy did it taste good Then having breakfast this morning made a huge difference as well. Feeling 100% again now and think I will have to revert to the good old fashioned way of excercise and eating less! Atkins is not for me with those side effects.
Good luck to those who have managed to stick with it! Its back to the drawing board for me.

Well I lasted 2.5 days which is quite pathetic but the side effects just werent worth it
Not a total waste of time though as it has made me really appreciate my food, and having potatoes again last night with dinner was especially tasty
I just need to change my diet from being a grossly over indulgent git to eating sensibly and in moderation

I know but they were getting worse and the fact work had commented on my change of attitude really swung it for me along with the lack of concentration on my motorbike travelling to and from work.
Not something I could continue putting up with for obvious reasons!

Hmmm,
Im thinking the other way, I havent had much in the way of side effects or very mild. Started Monday, tuesday had a headache all day and did feel abit light headed. Wednesday and today I feel fine, no worse or better than normal. Didnt have huge amounts of sugar in my diet before anyway. Been very strict been eating breakfast and mushrooms for breakfast, dinner is normally tuna or chicken fillet with salad and dinners mushroom omelette, steak, prawns, chicken with salad, drinking only water or black decaf coffee, wont weigh myself until a week is up so will see. I still get hungry between meals as well!

All be it a little behind the rest of the Scoobynetters, I have started the Atkins and have been on for 2.5 days.
Haven't realy noticed the side affect too badly at all, but then I never really ate much sugar / sweets before.
I am feeling no better of worse that before, although I looked in the mirror this morning and thought I looked slimmer
Anyone who has been on for a while care to update their current state of play, as reading the thread, some people have managed to stick to it others haven't.

Has anyone on here had their newly-acquired kidney stones removed yet?
Or been booked in for the operation?
Maybe we should start a separate thread to monitor their progress!

Most people on here will obviously ignore all the warnings of kidney stones arising from a high protein, low carb diet, but just in case you want to form a balanced opinion on whether Atkins is a desirable plan to follw, they might be worth a cursory glance...

Hey Tel, depsite eating that entire pizza at lunch the other week, stuffing my face on a huge portion of chicken fried rice this week and drinking quite a few beers, would you believe I've lost more weight?

I really need to get my **** back to the gym.
Anyone got any suggestions what I can use to bribe/force myself?
Enthusiasm is sorely lacking at the moment.

The South Beach diet is a better one to follow, it's aimed more at a heathy heart than anything. It works and it's less restrictive. Saying that, i'm back to my 'normal' diet with excersise thrown in and smaller food portions. The only way to go as far as I can see!!!

DIdn't work for me. Stuck to it for 3 weeks, and only lost 5lbs. - that included giving up the beers too so it should have been much more!
Decided, no, doesn't work for everyone. I've switched to the Slimming World diet which i was on a while ago and the weights falling off me. 8lb in two weeks with no real effort - Plus i can eat spuds again - hoorah!
