No milk? Even semi skimmed?

I drink at least a pint per day.

now youre getting the hang of it.

one good thing is that it really does get you thinking about carbs. you will feel so much better in yourself (health wise), you stomach will shrink, and youll realise the effects carbs have on you.

I tried it and balancing the carbs with my insulin intake meant it was a nightmare and I had a really bad hypo attack one night.

Gave up after that as it scared the **** out of me.

Dave

P.S. Im diabetic.

no grown animal in the world drinks milk...not even cows! so going without milk is no big deal.

if you "cheat" on atkins with a bowl of cornflakes you are wasting you time.....if you give your body some carbs to live on then go and wolf down some cheese and cream you aint gonna loose weight!

there is a good web site where you can buy LOADS of low carb food- i have just started back on this as a bit of an experiment to see exactly how much weight i loose if done properly (currently 19st 6lbs at 33% BF after a detox week (that detox week lost me 7lbs but was done for detox rather than weight loss)

i have just ordered lots of low carb chocies, biscuits, cerals, and pudds to go with all the chicken.

i know from experience that i can drop about 3stone in 3 months but it will be interesting to monitor the % fat.

surely losing that amount of weight in such a short space of time cant be good for you?!?!?

i strayed slightly by eating low sugar jelly in my induction weeks....but i still lost half a stone (pretty good since i only want to lose a stone).

a small piece of brown toast
*cough* cheat

It does sound hard but you do get used to it quite quickly and start to find low carb gems in the shops. My first few days were a nightmare for drinking but then I found some carbonated water with very light fruit flavourings in Tescos. I drinks loads of the stuff and there are only 3 grams of carbs per litre and it tastes really good. I also take diet drinks which contain no carbs. They do have some sweetner which is supposed to slow atkins progress a little but I feel this was a justified departure!

Expensive - tell me about it!!!

Cereal sounds so appealing and 'safe' but its got loads of carb, even so called good cereal like special K, all-bran, etc. You have to become a bit of a label junky and check everything you buy!

My real problem is finding something to have after tea as a desert. So far I've tried natural yougart which sucks and some goatsmilk cr@p - the search continues!

oh dont get me wrong...i think its fantastic that people have found something that works well for them and makes them much happier and healthier people.

im just concerned that there must be bad outcomes from such a high protein, high fat diet in which people lose **** loads in a very short period.
but then again...there are bad points to everything nowadays.

oh god hark at me...i sound like a right old woman!!!!!

I was 16stone 7lbs on 1st December. When I came off Atkins on 1st March I was (& still am) 12stone 4lbs - pretty much ideal for my height etc.
So I lost 4 stone 3lbs in 3 months.
In the last 3 months I havn't put back on a single pound.

Like any diet - once its over you need to move to a balanced healthy diet. Simply go back to how you were eating before & its no wonder the weight goes back on.

From where I looked in tesco's but all the jelly seemed to have loads and loads of carb (in the form of sugar!)

...and another thing, most "low fat" stuff is much higher in carbs than the ordinary equivalent, so on Atkins all the diet stuff in Marks or any of the supermarkets do the opposite on Atkins

I've decided to give Atkins another try! I'm off tea, coffee and alcohol already so hopefully it will be a little easier to stick to! I start tomorrow!

Rowntrees Sugar-free jelly is very low in carbs and is edible. Kind of. Actually, I quite like it, but it's a little bitter.

I'm down to 14st 7lbs from 15st 1lb in 10 days, my pants keep falling down. I feel fine, except I've picked up a (non-diet related) kidney infection so I may have to ditch the diet until I'm better as I beleive low-carb diets put strain on your kidneys anyway.

Well I'd only heard some bad things so its been good to have some 'real-life' experiences, Im off on holiday for a week from the 14th but gonna buy the book to take and read and give it a go when I come back, perhaps if anyone is else is considering we could start a diary, hell it would need its own forum 'The Fat B***ards trying to lose weight!'

Interesting to see that it gives you enough energy to do vigourous exercise, Ive started circuit training and was wondering if would feel so knackered I wouldnt be able to do it.

Cheers everyone!

Gary
