Anybody tried the Atkins Diet on here?

the bread is from an online place somewhere- i'll look it up, its not mad expensive and is only 3grams per slice (it has a high fibre content which means the carbs from the fibre are not counted as they never get into the blood stream)

Fear not Red its all in the post
You have a 2 day supply of 'sugar' in your blood which you should have used by now. I personally think mines lasted longer. You then have to wait a bit for a switch to occur and you're away
I think you should notice a difference within the next few days

Red - those burgers you ate could be quite carby if they're not home-made proper ones. Full of rusk, same goes for cheap sausages.
Tiggs - another way round the bread thing is Soy flour. You make a pancake batter which you can use like a tortilla wrap. Not bad at all.
Miwurdz - I did pretty much zero carbs for a month, double induction (is that a bit like a turbo
) I drank booze and coffee as normal (lots). Lost a stone in a month, then another stone the next with more carbs and a bit of cycling.
Funny how it falls off your face first![Confused](images/smilies/confused.gif)
If you have a Costco in your area get down there. Great for meat n cheese n wine etc.

Thanks Clare, very useful.
Does anyone know the score with rice cakes and stuff like Ryvita during induction please?
What about poppadums?
TIA,
Roy.
Eggy pumps or what?

When I'm carb counting, is it the total amount of carbs minus any fibre? cause most packages say for example...
Carbohydrates = 2.4g
of which are sugers = 0.5g
is it the sugers in carbs I should be counting? this is for after the induction period, I'm not taking in any carbs till the first 2 weeks are up. I've got some of those ketostix and I'm on the "moderate" colour after 3 days, does that sound right?

matt, count the carbs but take of the fiber (fiber is not digested and passes through you so wont effect your blood sugar levels)
so if something is 20g carbs and 5g fibre then you have 15g of net carbs.
HOWEVER, fibre wont reduce your carbs by much as the sort of stuff you can eat of atkins is generaly low fibre anyway. For example a high fibre cereal like bran flakes may have 15g of fibre but will also have 50-60g of carbs so still has 50g of net carbs.
this is relevant as going 2 weeks plus with no fibre WILL have an effect! eating lots of meat and lots of eggs does not make you errrrr......regular! add the fact that you have NO fibre and you may want to attend some pre-natal classes for practice!

Thanks for the link. This afternoon I mistakenly ate a good handful of peanuts, thinking I was allowed to in the induction period, but having read that site it says categorically "no nuts". I hope I haven't set myself back 4 days!

Me too! been reading the wrong bit and have been chowing down on mixed nuts and macademias!
Shouldn't make too much difference though i reckon. Don't know if i am losing weight as we haven't got any scales at home tho'
Nearly used the ones in the vets when kitty went for her checkup

I normally wouldn't but these were in a bowl and I thought "oh, I think I can have nuts!" so I had a few before I looked at the Atkins site and read that I absolutely shouldn't!. Ketostix still reading "moderate" though so hopefully I didn't eat too many to affect it.... hopefully!

If you know how to eat/cook then you will be ok, if you're a peasant who can't live without a McDonalds/ dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets, then you will fail.
Last nights menu was a nicely aged Ribeye steak, fried, de-glaze the pan with whisky (lotsa flames) then add cream and add the wild mushrooms I'd fried in butter n garlic in another pan. Some greens/cabbage/broccoli on the side, put it on a big white plate, and it's restraunt quality food.
Yeah it's a **** diet - I hate having lost 2 stone
eating this muck.

Now on day 6 - and all I can say is it does work. It's a lot easier getting my trousers on in the morning ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Other side effects are
- Less appetite (good thing for me). If I have a decent lunch, I just don't feel hungary in the evening.
- I wouldn't say I have more energy, but I don't peak and trough during the day based on sugar intake - I have a more consistent amount of energy all through the day instead
- Bad breath - I can taste it myself. Although no one else has commented.
- You get sick of eggs real quick
Gonna stay on the induction another week and then introduce a few carbs, specifically fruit and veg and see what happens.

I'm on day 8 and i've lost 6 pounds!!! I'm so pleased! I'm tempted to stay on induction for longer than the 2 weeks as I really would like to get back down to my weight before I packed up smoking!
I've been eating Macademia nuts too. I'm sure I was reading the right section that said it was ok to have a handful? Well, seems to still be working.

I started the thread and I've started the diet. Just finished induction (enjoyed a lovely glass of red wine with my steak). Not sure on the actual weight loss but fat is definitely coming off. Formerly tight trousers are now far more comfortable and I can see clear muscle definition on parts of me that previously had a layer of fat over them.
Downsides - I wish I could find something other than bacon and eggs for breakfast. Any such thing as a low carb cereal?
Cheers
Kav
