Been on the Atkins since last Monday, only fried the following in Olive Oil/Butter where required:
Bacon, eggs, Steak, Pork, Chicken, Burgers(checked labelling)
Also have had Cheese, but not Fruit, Veg or Salad.
Been to the gym 4 times
Sales say I've lost about 7 pounds, although the reading was higher this morning.
What I want to know is when should the Ketostix turn purple, mine seems to read moderate.
Feel overall much better for it.

Been on it since last Monday too. Breakfast is usually scrambled eggs or an omlette. Lunch is probablly the same although if I have more time then I have a couple of pieces of bacon in with it
or I have a tuna salad etc. Evening meals I have more time to prepare a nice meal.
Things I miss are ceral in the morning and milk in my tea (drinking de-caff tea with no milk! - not as bad as it sounds). I was always a serial snacker and I can honestly say after the first few days I haven't felt hungry between meals!! I went to a wedding reception last night, I stuck to diet coke all night and couldn't have anything from the buffet cause it was either pizza (yum!!) sandwiches or chicken covered in breadcrumbs![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
Been to the gym 3 times too.
Scales say I've lost 3kg but my tummy is definately smaller. My Ketostix are one away from the darkest purple too so next week I'm hoping for the real weightloss to begin.

Re: Nuts.
Page 373 of the Atkins book reads:
Nuts, Seeds and Nut Butter Spreads
Nutritious, high in protein and healthy fats. Watch portions though: A small child's handful is about right for a snack.
- Macademia Nuts
- Almonds
- Walnuts
- Hazlenuts
- Pecans
- Sunflower seeds
- Pumpkin Seeds
- Almond Butter (unsweetened)
- Peanut Butter (unsweetened)
Example of carb content:
Chilli-roasted Macademia Nuts
Prep time: 5 mins
Bake time: 20 mins
6 Servings
300g shelled Macademia nuts
1 teaspoon safflower oil
1.5 teaspoons mild chilli powder
1 teaspoon salt
1. Heat oven to 150C (300F/gas mark 2). Toss nuts with oil, spread on a baking tray and bake 25 mins until golden.
2. Transfer to a bowl; immediately toss nuts with chilli powder and salt. Allow to cool before serving.
Total carb per serving: 6 (count only 2.5 'digestible' carbs when doing Atkins); protein: 4 grams; fat: 35 grams; calories 329.

For a nice evening meal, Safeway's do a finest range of ready made dishes. They tend to be for two people, so you could get two meals from them. If you have a healthy appetite you could have both. Had Prawn Provencile this evening 12 carbs for both portions. Not bad tasting too. I have also had the chicken and salmon dishes, all the same amount of Carbs. I'm sure the other supermarkets do the same.
Same with their meats, if meat is all you have then get the best.![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Lost 1/2 stone in the last week since I started this diet, have been down the gym once, swimming and football. Seams to work for me.

WAHEY!!!!! I'm on day 11 of induction and i've lost 7lb which is really encouraging!
I'm really pleased although can't physically see any difference! Think it has come off all the WRONG places!! My face looks thinner but that's bout it!!
Any ladies on here give me a clue as to which order the fat shifts?! ie, *****, bum hips?!?!?! I'm aiming to move the fat on my hips and bum. Bet that's the last place it moves ain't it?!

AIUI, it tends to shift in roughly the reverse order to how it went on. Something to do with your body being happier storing fat in some areas than others.
It's certainly the same way for me; the parts I want it gone from most are the ones being stubborn.

That's kind of similar to what I said when I found I'd lost half an inch from each wrist, (which didn't look fat before), a few months ago. I want it gone from the bits that will make my clothes fit more comfortably and I lose it from my fecking wrists...
Typical!![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
I'm not following Atkins though; I'm going with the old-fashioned gym and healthy eating plan. I have to say, that given the time it's taking, I can see why "quick fix" plans are so appealing.

bloody hell, can't believe this thread is still running - this is a performance car forum with, you would expect, mostly blokes contributing.
where's all this 'does my bum look fat in this' coming from?
stop it girls, have a beer, a pork pie and get back in front of the TV to watch Men & Motors
.
There'll be a thread discussing which hair gel is best, next, or whether it's ok for blokes to wear make-up (it's not, by the way)!

Well I bought the book and was supposed to start today but was away Fri-Sun and didnt get a chance to read book properly. So I am kinda winging it a bit. Just had 4 slices of bacon for brekkie. Will have eggs and bacon for lunch and then off to Tescos after to work to sort something out for dinner.
Anyone suggest what veggies are good for induction week other than tomatoes?
Simon.

I eat a lot of Tuna Mayo and Green Beans for my lunch. Most veggies are ok, just make sure you don't go over your carb limit!! If buying fresh in a supermarket, look on the packaging. Usually tells you what the carb content is.

When calculating the carb levels of food, do you just take the amount of carbs in grams 'as is' ? Or do you plus or minus anything else ? Sugars ?
Doing well so far anyway. One week in and about 6lbs lost.
Just want to lose a stone for my holiday and firm up the old stomach
I think the major difference has been not sinking Stella and eating crisps all of the time . . . and using the ab-roller morning noon and night

I don't know. I take carbs at face value!! If it says 5g carbs then 5g carbs it is!! I think that you take off carbs from fiber as this doesn't get into your blood stream!!

What is the opinion on diet soft drinks? Cant see it on my carb counter. Im guessing its low but I cant be arsed to put 50p into the machine only to read the back and find I cant drink it.

No carbs but you need to watch your aspatamine sweetener intake. Only 3 drinks with it in a day. I think 'spenda' sweetener is ok but they don't put that in soft drinks over here yet!
I was advised to steer clear of diet drinks for induction and since Ive stopped having them, the weight seems to have shifted a bit quicker (coincidence maybe)!!
Don't take my word for it though, I may be completely wrong!!!

Pills and powder.... he he. Sorry, my naughty mind! The powder is actually very good. Tastes almost like sugar!

I've been using the sticks for 7 days now and I'm trying to convince myself that it's showing the darkest purple but I think it's the next one down (8 on Ketostix). It's been like that since Saturday :/ , although I did have lots of vanilla diet coke over the weekend
