Get some exercise in! I really noticed the change up the pee-sticks scale when I had a tough 5 a side game of footy. A few hours later I smacked that bad boy right the way up to deep purple

Question

Any athletes on here that are on this diet? like someone who trains 10/12hrs+ per week.

I'm on a high carb diet, but my energy levels are all over the shop. Low carb diets rub against the grain whenever I talk to other runners.

I do 3 hours in the gym daily mixing cardio, ab work and weights.

First couple of days are difficult wheil you're body adjusts but after that you are flying.

Actually found some low-carb high protein bars in GNC health shops which are a mx of 4g carbs per bar but high in protein for helping muscle growth.

As far as I'm aware I've not taken in Carbs, as all I've had last week is:
bacon/egg for breakfast
pork chop/steak/chicken/cheese for lunch and dinner not all at once
only other thing is one avocado spilt over two days and less than 1 cup of peas one Saturday. Only drink has been water.

Other than the above I've one 4 session at 1.5 hrs each followed by swim and sauna.

Where is it going wrong

What's with the sticks?? I've done Atkins by the book. The only reason to use sticks is to tell you what you already know (or in the case of a bad batch of sticks, create a sense of paranoia).

Check your progresss with inches and pounds lost

Reached target weight over the weekend. Lost one and a half Stones since Easter. For those who feel a bit discouraged, by the time I got near the target, I was on wholemeal toast in the morning, half a bottle of wine in the evening, Strawberries and cream, and one a week curries using either Grossman or Shere Kahn sauces and fresh meat and veg......nice.

ozzy,

do some research on the exercise thing...there is some intersting stuff on exercise and carbs and how the traditional "carb load" idea may not be the way forward. SOOOO much of what we think comes from being told it by ppl with no idea- 5 portions of veg a day? why? are humans designed/need to do that?

T

ps- dont see many ethiopeans chow down on pasta and spuds but they can still jog a little!

Unhappy

I'm quite peeved. Weighed myself this morning and somehow, i've gained 2 pounds. I'm still eating the same and not overdoing my carbs or overeating. I'm not 'bunged up' either (like most people I know who have done it were!!). I'm quite disheartened. Has this happened to anyone else?!

P1Fanatic,

just go on the wind up mate.... Tell them you don't care what it does to you! Tell them that as long as you are losing weight nothing else matters.............watch them get on their high horses and start preaching. Should be slightly amusing!

Thumbs up

Just ordered the books -

I need to lose weight (use to push serious wieghts, so quite bulky, but the excessive lifestyle has taken it's toll on my gut )

Wifey's just had out 2nd child about 7weeks ago, she want's to lose weight too, so between the diet (plus morale encouragement!) and some light jogging and more weights for me, we're looking forward to it.

I hardly drink tea & coffee now anyway (part of a semi-failed de-tox about 3 months ago!), so it shouldn't be too bad.....

Will let you know how we get on

P1Fanatic, what are you having today ?
Well went to Tesco last night and stocked up on meat. Bacon was buy one get free

Had just bacon for brekkie as leave house at 7.30 and didnt have time to cook. Work only does bacon and sausage rolls mon-thurs so I just had bacon on its own at about 9am. Drinking water as cant be doing coffee without milk and sugar.

Will nip home for lunch at 1pm and have bacon and scrambled eggs or a cheese omelette (bought 40 eggs last night lol). Tonight will be pork chops, salad and something else that I havent decided yet.

Not the best meals but Im mega lazy and only just started so still finding out whats good and whats not.

What do people think about sausages? Tesco's own seemed low in carbs whilst Walls were quite high.

I bought some Tesco Finest Pork and Stilton Sausages, very low in carbs and taste fantastic

I too noticed that the Walls ones are full of rusk which ups the carb count.

A lot of the supermarket's own brand products seem to be lower in carbs than the more expensive stuff.

Tesco's meats are good. Morrisons was good for fish and cheeses.

Even the dilute-to-drink juices for 28p are better than the £1.57 Ribena's etc.

Tiggs,

True, but there's not much meat on an Ethiopians bones either. My main sport is Hill/Fell running, but I need all round fitness and endurance. If I got stuck on a mountain for a couple of days, I'd want some fat reserves to last me without much food. If I had some Ethiopians with me, they'd be eying me up in a matter of hours

Just how strict do you have to be on this diet?

I have a couple of months before I start training with the Marines again. When I'm out in the field, I've no option but to eat the cr@ppy MOD ration packs and God knows what's in them.

"I'd want some fat reserves to last me without much food"

more to do with your own fat stores than the carbs you guzzle down prior to getting lost.

ps- quit and jog round the block instead...far safer!

quitting's never an option

I quite fancy giving it a try and measuring things a bit more scientifically than just my overall bodyweight.

I have a Body Fat monitor, blood pressure monitor, cholesterol tester and some urinary test strips so could take readings easily before and during the diet.

Total Body Water measurements would be handy to see if the rapid weight loss is all water as I suspect, but my monitor doesn't do that.

Anyway, time to start doing some research first.

Yup, this is the single biggest drawback with the diet...the abuse you get from others for being on it

Ozzy, I strongly suspect the initial loss is water but thereafter you start to slowly but surely eat through the fat.

Tiggs, what's your body fat now then? mail me offline if you don't want to divulge such personal info

most healthy people have up to 65% water in their bodies, so you may have lost a lot of fluid. Fat holds more water than muscle, but at least the bf% is going in the right direction, so it must be doing something right. well done m8

my BF was low 30's, is now high 20's.

i have done no exercise and increased my fluid intake by a huge amount.

i understand the principles of fluid loss and how its retained in the body and there is no way it is all water loss (i would have died )

Daft question:

Can you have gravy?
Can't find it under sauces in the books...

Probably not packet gravy - but if you make it properly or with beef stock cubes then that'll be OK - just don't use cornflour to thicken it.
