Damn just got some chewing gum to munch on - Wrigleys Extra Spearmint - the carb % per 100g is 66 FFS. Starch 0g, sugar 0g, polyols 66g. So the sugar free slogan is very misleading.

Hmm thats got me thinking now in regard to the chewing gum. Surely you only absrob those carbs etc if you swallow and digest the gum rather than just chew it?

the carbs are in the sweetner...not the rubber.
its like sprinkling sugar on a tyre and eating it....the dunlop might not get into the blood but the sugar will!
(that said 66g per 100g is only a lot if you had 100g of gum!

One thing that wound me up about this diet was the bl**Dy busybodies telling you how much harm you are doing!
I've lost over 2 stone on this diet, my wife is still losing weight on it.
One piece of advice, avoid all drinks with aspartame in it. Sounds really crazy, but I used to drink caffiene free diet coke, I was losing wieght slowly, but nothing in comparison to what I expected. What I didn't realise is aspartame has a nice side effect that can inhibit weight loss!!! (as well as lots of other nasty stuff)
Good luck to all those that are doing it, it does work, just push through the nightmare of the first 2 weeks and you'll feel great

Triv - a sensible answer. Well, sort of...
Any diet, this one or any other, will only work if it becmes a lifestyle change thing. Using a diet to lose weight, then going back to old eating habits, and expecting the diet to have altered everything, is fantasy land stuff. Having said that, this diet is good as an initial "kickstart", depriving your body of carbs long-term is a total no-no.
The key to losing weight is to gradually, and permanently, eat less, preferably combined with a sensible exercise programme. It's not rocket science, it just takes a lot of willpower.
The problem we all face is that as we get older, we do less exercise, have other committments, and can afford more/better food. It's a tough task to avoid putting on weight as you age, unless you're one of nature's "string beans".

LOL, I'm not getting notifications any more (well, they get automatically binned). But thanks to you lot, the thread's 'gone muppet' now, so the problem will stop anyway.

out of interest, started the diet yesterday....
Had my griddled bacon and scrambled eggs for brekkie.
Just had flamegrilled stir-fry (no fat used though) chicken and a bit of rice....
Is rice a bad thing to have, as me a vegetables don't mix.....
For tea having, more stir-fry chicken and well, not too sure. Can't have potatoes, or bread, or any sauce. How about pitta bread?
Drinking water like a fish. Had no Tea or Coffee (no problem though, coz I've detoxed from Caffiene and sugar anyway!
)
Any further suggestions until my books arrive ?
Cheers,
Dan
