Came up against 2 seperate 996 C4S's in my old MY99 UK scoob, which was decat and tek but a bit off colour, gained on one and level with the other - they had better brakes though Second one then turned back the way he'd came - he'd only followed me for a bit of fun, nice wave at the end too

Have to say was having a really nice dawdle around yesterday late afternoon and was 2 miles from home, when what should go past whilst im at a junction but my all time dream car Porsche 911 Carrera 4S with wide turbo body - well i thought i have 2 options - go straight across at junction and toodle home which is what i was doing , or turn right and toodle up the backside of the PC - heheh my heart started pumping slightly faster as i indicated right - i sat back and watched as he glanced up to passenger who then turned around and smiled with a knowing giggle of excitement between em (this is where i repositioned my body to fit snuggly in my seats (more for effect really cos at this point im thinking im in some movie with the speed my heart is going).
Whats great is that we both went through the next mile of suburbia at 30mph and the anticipation of something we both knew was going to happen had the adrenaline going 10 to the dozen , as 1 mile further on we were to reach one of the best 22 mile stretches of windy road and staights in the UK -
so we go round the final sweeping corner of suburbia to be met with a half mile straight with no junctions whatsoever and i can remember thinking ' please go for it please go for it....' to which came the reply of a shrieking porsche ! yehaw , i could actually feel that fab adrenaline rush as i just floored my Sti as i have always always wanted to know what would happen next ...
well as im powering up past 6k i suddenly realise not only am i keeping up with him , im ever so slightly gaining! i could not believe it! and whats fantastic for me to know is that guy was absolutely coshing his Porsche cos i could hear his engine above my own and mine is loud now with PPP fitted - anyways we come to first corner and he brakes heavily (as do i !!!) and around we go with him flooring the accelerator once again - another half mile straight and yet again i creep up on him and at one point back off cos im getting to close for saftey to his back end , and after that i suddenly realise im 30 odd with 2 kids and what the F*** am i doing so rather depressingly i back right off and reduce speed (dont get me wrong i love my car for its amazing power etc but sometimes you get that quick thought 'what if?' and it brings you back to reality) BUT WHAT A BUZZ! what i do know for certain is that guy will now be absolutley confused as to why that car in the rear view which cost less than half of his pride an joy was getting larger in his rear view mirror and not smaller! Dont get me wrong his car is the most beautiful car in the world but its put a slight taint on my dreams to own one as my little beastie can give him a run for his money- he will be in the dealer at 10 am wanting a turbo 911 - thats my guess
could not miss the moment and glad i didnt!

get the PPP done because i can confidently say instead of gaining steadily he would have been pulling away steadily - PPP is weird , at first i thought not much difference but 4 or 5 days down line i am besotted with it , so much more progressive power its scary!

lots of laughs JohnD , glad to hear that you you feel the same way! and Madmark , my answer is 100 per cent porsche every time - it has been a childhood dream to own one and i cant shake that off easily (anyways i dont want to!) so i would have a Porche over my scooby as much as i have fallen for my Sti....... sadly my dream has had to have the goalposts moved cos i am now saving for the turbo 911 and not the 4s as i had prviously thought.Whats cool though is until that time i can walk out of my door and smile a wicked smile of knowing what my little partner outside can really do when he boogies on down .....

I drive an STi7 PPP and have been surprised how comparable performance wise it is with other "exotica".
A friend of my mine has an 02 reg BMW M3 which I have been a passenger in whilst he drove in an "enthuastic" manner. I could notice the greater straight line performance than the Scooby - particularly at a ton+. The point of mentioning this is that I recently went with him to test drive a Porsche C4S. He was "disappointed" with the performance, but then he has a 343bhp M3. I have to say though as a passenger I was left wondering how the C4S would compare to my Scooby, which makes jadcoz's experience interesting reading.
Having said all of that performance is only one aspect of car ownership. The C4S is still very desirable and watching Top Gear last Sunday only made me wish more that I had a spare £65k. Owning a Scooby and a C4S.....now there's a thought.
