Used to own an EVO VI, now own an STi8.
As you say it's horses for courses, just respect each other as they are both giant killing cars.
Those people that actually have owned an EVO don't give a **** about the servicing as do STi owners. Lets face it you don't spend £30k on a car then moan about a couple of hundred quid for a service even if it is every 6 months/4.5k miles.
Remember FQ is £29k, STi8 PPP is £27k. So if you are that bothered about how fast your car is spend your spare £2k making the STi faster and handle better (Prodrive Springs when they arrive, anit-lift kit, anti-roll bar and geom set-up £700 all in).

Would be very interesting to see a JDM scoob against the FQ300 Evo cos basically the Evo is JDM anyway.
The UK Scoob and JDM scoob are completly different.... twin scroll turbo..DCCD...etc and you can have one for the same money as a PPP UK scoob and cheaper then the Evo.

I never intended this thread to be turned into a Scoob Vs Evo thread the fact is these two cars are so similar in performance, price, handling that the only real way to differ is personal preference on looks or what you are used to (i.e. a Scooby owner is obviously going to prefer the STI !).
If you think about it 1.2 seconds is all that differs these cars around a track, on normal road conditions I doubt you would ever notice this small amount of time. IMHO of course!

No they did'nt have a grale, the other cars to appear on the show were the Peugeot 206 GTI 180 , the new VX220 TURBO (0-60 in 4 secs!!) and a few other track cars !

What lap times did the other cars get that you just mentioned?
Anyone have a link to the overall lap time list, would be interesting to see where these two fit into the overall picture.
Also was it wet

The figures don't mean anything. It's how it drives.
The evo is far less "laggy" than a scoob and much more responsive off boost. The brakes are better, the turn in is better in fact I don't know anything that the scooby has over the evo except for the "sound" ..YAWN
Oh yeh, forgot that the evo is the daddy when it comes to turning heads Scoobs lost that years ago
IMHO every scooby owner is a closet evo lover. It's just that
a) They can't afford one
b) The wife/GF won't allow it
c) They are too impractical...YAWN

And before I get flamed, I had a MY96 (when they had street cred), MY98 and STI5.
Apologies for biting on this one folks and turning it ever more into a Evo vs Scooby thread. It just gets on my nerves when all these 'Scooby Newbie' Evo owners/ex scoob owners crawl out of the woodwork to add their 2p worth on a thread that wasn't meant to be a ? vs ? one. I know the guy is entitled to his opinions (I admit he is probably has more right to comment having owned both) and wants to wind people up, its just a bore ain't it?

Cr@p. Are you saying that an Evo will turn somebodys more than a P1, 22b or even a nicely done up RA? Its personal taste at the end of the day.
Perhaps true, is it the same if the AYC is turned off. Wonder how the Scoob would compare with the same 'driver aids'?
I do love these threads, what a wind up eh? At least it has given me the chance to work out how to use the quote function. Thanks ab.

Now, where is my fishing rod?

Damn gonna be in spain so will miss it on Sunday, so was it a PPP'd STI against the FQ or standard, hardly a fair comparison if the scoob is standard UK spec.
Everytime they go head to head the Evo comes out on top, I acknowledge that and I reckon most scoob drivers do, I just dont want one. Its pathetic, Hey why dont we all get our dicks out and measure em FFS!

No, I'd say it's more like if you turned your head everytime you saw a Subaru, you'd have a bloody sore neck!

Ed,
I'm not getting up tight as such, I'm actually disappointed that took the bate in a way. As I also said, its just a bore when a guy starts a decent thread telling everybody about whats going to be on Top Gear this week and some Evo owner adds some stupid comments thats been heard a million times before.

Didn't they make yellow STi's? your feking sad if all you can moan about is the colour...*****!
But really, you gotta show evo drivers respect, except for the yellow ones!

Well its the first time I've ever added to a Evo vs Scoob debate, so why not get stuck in! Besides I've havn't even sat in a Evo before, nevermind driven one, so what does that tell you? I've even noticed how I've contradicted myself, got sucked right in didn't I. I'll learn.

Has anyone tried a "standard" £29k Evo 8 vs a "fettled" STI PPP - with suspension mods (costing the £29k)?
My understanding has always been that the evo is built purely for the track/fast road brigade and is therefore less compliant as thats the market its aimed for ... the STI caters for the Jag bloke who wants a few thrills - as well as the rest - so its less manic in standard form.
How many evos sell vs Subarus - i bet theres more scoobies ; Suabru want everyone and his dog to buy a scoobie so makes it less manic - therefore i dont think its a totally fair competition
Still - id buy the Evo any day of the week

What we're all looking forward to is the US spec STI over here or even the Prodrive ATD add on. From what i've seen and read the ATD system makes DCCD and active yaw look like leaf springs.

From what I saw it has to be the Evo!!!
The Stig couldn't even keep the subaru on the track.
What would be the time difference if he had to keep between the lines.
No point having a quick car if it doesn't go where you point it.

I agree with what they say, my STi8 suffers from understeer, so roll on the Prodrive springs. All it needs is a bit of suspension tweaking and it will handle as good as the EVO.
