Sorry to say it but this is exactly the sort of thread that made me sell my Legacy.
My boss had one taken off his drive.
It was found burned out three days later with a string of 'nasty' ram raid robberies attached to it several of which used firearms)
I'm up for joining in the macho rant about how tough I'd be if someone tried it on......
But in reality I don't mix with hardened criminals in my everyday life and I haven't had a fight since school.
(Lots of you sound like you have a punch up every weekend, so you're either people I don't want to associate with or brave typists!)
The reality is that my wife used the car quite often with my son strapped into his seat in the back....
I wonder if they'd hang around and help him out of his seat before they took the car?
Not a risk I was ever prepared to take
So I sold the car.
Life's too short.

regacy,
i here you shame its come to the situ where you have to carry weeapons to own a nice car, if someone takes you car there fair game, if someone breaks down your door and steals you hard earned belongings he is fair game, shame the people who run this country are not strong enough to change the law so inncocent people protecting there property, themselves and their families have the upper hand in the law courts, i thought property was 9/10ths of the law , bank robbery longer sentance than rape and murder, go figure it,

With such fine upstanding fellows such as Lord Woolf in charge of the Law these days and a government that does not give a "stuff" for the welfare of the British people, what chance do we have of any protection by the authorities.

People can't be blamed for protecting themselves when that is the only way left to us.

I know i say this now, but in reality you wouldn't have chance to, but why not just dump the clutch in 1st and go, drive off, if one of them is hangin through the window tough !

I had a tracker on my car, but it's hard to let some robber just walk off with it. I would be tempted to turn the engine off and break the key off in the igntion ! Then i would either run off or stand and fight my corner, depending on where i was and who i was with. Then beat the **** out of them !

I would love to see a headline like "Motorist kills car jacker"

That would make them think twice !

still no news on the car

And in response to an earlier comment, trackers may not necessarily save you in this instance. I know of a guy who's car disappeared and the police followed his tracker until the signal just disappeared and the car was never recovered.

They siad the the car owner that chances were the car was either taken underground or the tracker was located by the gang (fairly easy to do with the right tools) and removed.

This is the problem with security. It's only so long before people find ways round it.

4 black guys tried to jack my brother in his mini cooper s a few weeks a go in london. They bumpted his rear bumper a bit in a blue rover at some lights. My brother was just about to get out and sore the guys coming around sides of his car. He had doors locked so when they tried to open doors they could not get in.
He drove off fast and they chased him for a bit but he lost them.
He got there REG while thay chased him and gave it to police but they said car was nicked and there was nothing they could do.
He had to have back bumper re painted.
And last week to top things off He had someone throw a brick through his back window and nic stuff out of the car.
I think if you get court nicking or trying to nick a car you sould go to jail for aleast five years. Most cases i here about they just get a fine or community service. Its about time f##kers get whats coming to them!!!!!!

Best thing to do is keep a basball bat in your car but make sure you also have the ball as well, this way the coppers cant do you!
Some black guys tried nicking my corrado vr6 in manchester by trying to block me off in a crx thing....luckly i was able to get away they follwed me until i got on the motorway which was close buy and the i managed to loose them.

Most of the Scoobys that get nicked get stripped for parts and then transfered on to damaged cars from salvage.

After reading this BB for a few months it saddens and worries me that the car crime in the the UK is so high. I also drive nearly everywhere with my misses and 18 month old son in the car and the only worry i have is if i could get them out before they theives took off in the car.

All this talk about beating them up and selling cars because of the worry wont resolve the problem.

If you really and I mean really want the governemnt to sit up and take notice how about a MASSIVE car rally through the streets of London during a weekday? If everyone got onboard with this you could have thousands and thousands of cars and bring london to a standstill. This would create major press coverage and would bring it to the attention of the Governemnt. Would also have the added benefit of being a fun day out seeing all the performance cars.

This has been done a few times recently (anti war) being one example. Although it didnt make much difference the government at least knew that it was high on the voters list of priorities.

Maybe us car owners should do the same.

Would take some organisation though!

Regards

NuTz

Only one slight flaw in your idea.....
We'd all have to pay the congestion charge and the government would make a profit out of our protest, rather a mixed message don't you think?

Saw this on the bbc today

Woman hurt during carjacking

A woman was left lying in a road in Birmingham with serious head injuries after two men stole her car.
The 56-year-old victim was reversing her vehicle out a driveway in Moodyscroft Road, Kitts Green, when the men dragged her out of her seat.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said they believe the woman was run down or flung from the car bonnet as she tried to prevent the theft.

She was later taken to hospital with serious injuries to her head and body.

Found abandoned

Her Hyundai Accent car was found abandoned in nearby Loeless Road.

The spokesman said it was not clear whether the thieves intended to steal the car or something from it.

"This was a serious incident which, while resulting in injuries to the victim, could easily have had far more serious consequences," he said.

He added that the woman's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
I sold my Subaru because I thought 'it' was the problem....

Just been reading all the replies to this thread, must say very interesting to hear what people would do. Personally I tend to get a bit wound up when people try and damage/nick my car. As to whether or not violence is the answer, well thats easy of course not, it certainly doesnt make things right or make u a better person than the guy committing the crime.....It just works for me ! I caught a guy trying to break into my integrale on my drive way a few years ago and really went to town on him, poor b'stard didnt even see me comming, he was too busy trying to figure out my deadlocks. The upshot was the poilce got involved and after arresting him promptly arrested me ! fortunately he decided not to press charges and i got off with a caution. Could have been a lot worse . Having given it some thought since though i can honestly say I would have done exactly the same thing, even if it had have ended up with me in court.
There is no right or wrong thing to do under the circumstance that have been mentioned on this thread. Everybody has there own, valid argument. I just know that the guy that tried it on with me wont be nicking anymore cars, well not unless they're automatics after what i did to him ! lol. I stopped his crimal career there and then and thats gotta be a good thing.

just a thought, and this sitation probably didn't allow this, but in broad daylight, one could, possibly, bear with me, run off with the keys at full pelt.

would the 4 guys bother to chase, or would they have lost the "moment"

they also wouldn't hang around the car trying to hotwire it or anything...

just a thought.

please all remember to remove keys when in papershops, or petrol stations etc.... i'm sure everyone does, but you never know.

good luck

BB

Carjackers aren't the slightest bit intelligent so I guess they thought the Hyundai Accent was a Scooby.

Mind you they do look similar so mistakes are made

PS Lewis said

>It would depend who was in my car, wife and kid - I get out and get them out and wave bye bye
Oh, I thought you were 75, silly me

>Its getting stupid now - if you give them a good hiding you will be banged up, no job, no family to see, no freedom ..... while they will sue you and the costs of the case will result in the family home getting sold and your wife and kids on the street to pay the compensation!! How can that be right??
You've changed your normally politically correct New Labour views

do anyone see the anticar jack device that was for sale in south africa it basically barbequed any carjacker as soon as they touched the door handle you could press a button and flames would shoot out from under the door sill. It ran off a propane gas cylinder and was fxxxing leathal but legal. Car jacker = toast!

Having derided everyone for their macho talk about fighting for their car, maybe there isn't much choice left, all this woman was doing was unloading her shopping.

To resolve the Legacy issue...

The car has now been found in Moss side extensively damaged and effectively written off. All the panels have been kicked in and someone has jumped on the roof.

Get it in perspective please. Yes, car jacking is on the increase but targetting certain marques is maybe not so prevalent as you may think. Cars are taken opportunistically (such a word?) where the chances of getting caught are reduced for the perpetrators. A neighbour's son, whilst recently waiting at a red light in his old but well kept A reg MG Maestro, window open on a hot day, suddenly had a stanley knife held against his neck. The car was later used in a crime.... car worth what, few hundred quid at most, but, nippy and thus useful for the criminal.

Few days later, colleague on way to work at 7 a.m. has bread knife held near his face as he got out to buy a newspaper. His car .... an old Escort worth all of 1000 quid. Used for several serious crimes in B'Ham area later. These events took place in the relatively quiet backwaters of Gloucestershire.

The penalty, in the ever rarer event of getting caught for car-jacking, will be much the same whether it's a 100K supercar, 30K Subaru or a 500 Escort.

please don't have a weapon in your car. I was stopped in a random stop in docjlands london and they searched my car and found a locking penknife. I spent 6 hours at Limehouse nick for carrying an offensive weapon in a public place. the penknife was an old one from the toolkit that had a picture of a cub scout on it. not kidding.

+ lock your doors,
+ be street wise
+ use the car as a weapon. death by dangerous driving only got my cousins killer 18 months in jail.

what a ****ed up country we live in.

Isnt it about time the law allowed us to defend ourselves?Looking at the Tony Martin case and lots of others over the past few years, would these barrels of monkey spunk not think twice about attacking innocent, law abiding tax payers if they might meet equal or greater force? Was recently looking at buying a small holding in the countryside, lots of fresh air, scenary, and a very good chance of being attacked by this thieving scum, so had to forget the idea ,for the sake of family safety.Sorry to rant but why should we plan our lifes around this pondlife?
