STi 8 vs BMW M3 -- Muhahahahaha
#31
i kept up with a new M3 yesterday,and he was wheelspinning when changing gear and all that, even had to back off a few times,then a silly VTS got in the way and tried it to both me and the M3 driver had a good old laugh at that,had a friendly wave to the M3 driver and the thumbs up from him,beaten hands down! iv got a 330bhp STI7,all the suspension mods, Surely thats quicker than a PPPd 7 or 8?

Chrisp - cor blimey, yours must be better then.
just that figures is figures, and 12.2 is the figure which sticks.
this is not biased, just the figures as printed!
anyway, its the M3 we should be talking about, I thought Scooby owners were meant to be in the same club!?

All the book times for a decent scooby are better than M3's.....The magazine track times (EVO springs to mind) have the scoobs ahead of the M3.....why will people not accept that a decent scoob is faster...Not by a great deal but its there black and white....

Just found these someone posted on a gear ratios thread dont knwo how accurate mine are though as mine I did off my speedo and rev counter :
thread is here :
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...=110057&Page=2
MTR posted these for an STI7 UK
gear...ratio....calculated mph/1000rpm.... speed at 7250rpm
1st...3.636.....5.24mph.......................38mp h
2nd...2.375.....8.02mph.......................58mp h
3rd...1.761.....10.82mph......................78mp h
4th...1.346.....14.15mph......................103m ph
5th...0.971.....19.62mph......................142m ph
6th...0.756.....25.19mph......................183m ph
------------------------------------------------------
This is mine MY00 WRX Type RA (with 7,500 redline)
1st = 5.5mph/1000rpm = 41.25mph max
2nd = 7.75mph/1000rpm = 58.125mph max
3rd = 10mph/1000rpm = 75mph max
4th = 13.3mph/1000rpm = 100mph max
5th = 20mph/1000rpm = 150mph max
As you can see 1 to 5 are pretty close and 6th looks like the overdrive and probably very close to a UK WRX 5th ratio.

I have no problem with people posting about there cars I was just surprised at the figures given thats all. I woudl have an STI PPP over an M3 after 4.5 years scoob ownership, 4 years club member and on my second I do like them you know

saxoboy there is no bmw M3 costing 50k thats an M5 .M3's are around 36k also , i do belive a p1 scooby was around 31k.
there are very few cars under 20k that can keep up with a scooby , so get out of the clouds.
i bourght a 2.2 astra and as a work project (i build rally cars) spent 8k to get some big bhp out of it, a super charger was one of the mods as swapping the pistons was to much like hard work . super chargers take a fair bit of power from an engine , a turbo can be instant.
i ended up with 380 bhp in a front wheel drive car , which is great in the dry but a death trap in any other conditions ,i can't see a supercharged saxo holding a light to a scooby (we will leave sports out of this)for a start wheel spin will be your first prob if you try to dump the clutch scooby don't suffer from this (except in snow hehe)i found in my astra round corners you had to careful when to apply the power in the scooby you can go in slowish and then floor it .
i can get hold of an airfield and a loads of scoobys if you can find one of theses flying saxo's and we can sort the cars from the shopping trolley pretenders.

I beat Matt Dales s/c VTS down the 1/4 but ONLY because of my launch. By the time I was doing 70-80mph he was reeling me in real quick - enough to spank a lot of scoobys.
There are plenty of cars under 20k that can keep up with a scooby, especially if modded! An out the box 12k hot-hatch (cup) will beat a bugeye and match a classic shape for crying out loud (non-launch scenario). The scooby is a great car and on the right road totally untouchable but down a motorway unless its been nicely modified it'll get w@nked on by fiat coupe turbos (about 8k for a s-plate), or Pulsars (5-8k), old M3s (12k) and so on

No, I drive a scooby and you'll note from the near 5000 posts (sad huh!) that I've got my fair share of friends and enemies here already
I've done the hot-hatch thing and I've done the 4wd jap turbo thing! Out the box as new for performance and for thrills a VTS is better than any scooby. In the same way the scooby is probably better than an M3.....laws of diminishing returns

Well given a choice, and the money I'd still have the M3. Didnt seem to struggle with STI's on track Arron certainly had fun. After seven Scobbies and a few performance packs, the Scooby will NOT eat a new shape M3. The 0-100 and 30-70 time of a std M3 is superior to the STI with PPP.
M3 = 11.5 secs to 100
STI = MORE
The biggest disadvantage the M3 has is that the fun is well above license losing speed. The STI tops out below 155, the M3 keeps going with the limiter removed.
REMEMBER - A lot of M3 drivers are overpayed financial advisers. The chances of you meeting a Birdy on the B roads is less than Alaister Campbell telling us the truth about Iraq

I can see how you have made your enemies. Anyone would think you hate Subarus
I read many forums and we get totally ripped to bits because of owners like yourself that are still (no offense) a little blinkered to the limits of the Impreza.
You just can't have a car that is fast as hell 0-100, handles like a dream on track and on a muddy forest road, fast as hell 100+, comfy, lots of toys, cheap, good badge and reasonable economy.....something has to give! The STI is fast as hell off the line and through to around 100, brilliant on muddy forests, comfortable, cheap, etc. The M3 has the toys, (dare I say it), the badge, is more comfortable and critically is faster at the straight-line stuff except off the line - different cars for different things

I'm not ranting Its friday, I don't have to go to hell (work) till monday, the simpsons are on and I've got the flat to myself - I'm perfectly happy and perfectly calm
Just trying to put across the view that scooby's are not invincible They are great though
