Hi guys,
one word......Skyline!!!
Seriously though, i have driven many different versions of the M3 including the `hairdressers` Z3 Mpower, fairly fantastic cars all of them but i would struggle to beleive that the scoob would touch one after they have launched. Aren`t the new BM`s running about 330bhp??? Two wheel drive versus a 300bhp scooby AWD , 100bhp transmission losses....you do the maths .
In saying that, i haven`t had the pleasure of driving or even being a passenger in your new STI full blown toy so perhaps i should comment after i have done that.
Now, not looking to be provocative or argumentative, just adding my thoughts on the subject and perhaps a bit or realism to this topic. Agreed, we all are enthusiasts of the mark we buy / follow but sometimes you have to be honest with yourself!!
The scoobies i have driven or been driven in have all been fantastic and i do love the way you just point and shoot with regards to twisties but it does lack a bit of oomph from about 90 mph onwards and after 110mph its pretty much all over. Again, not trying to start an argument just being honest. Mind you, in saying that, i felt the BMW was equally boring once you get into three figures. As for the saxo, well without offending, i cant beleive we are even talking about that car in the same sentence as a scoob or M3, no offense but lets be serious!!!

No offense taken Thats the main reason I loved my VTS - everyone expects it to get absolutely raped by any turbo charged Impreza and the truth is it would only drop away slowly from a classic and would hardly be noticeable from a buyeye when rolling I'm happy to drop the subject here because I know that very few people will accept this and I don't have my vts anymore to prove it. Great car it was, but not a scooby and looking back not very spacious!

I had a really good play with a new RS4 in glouscestershire a month or so back when in my Type R.
He was 4 up and although I could out accelerate him over roundabouts up to around 90ish, it was mighty impressive for a loaded up estate car!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice chap that waved and acknowledged our bit of boys toys fun.........
Lets be honest its not just your typical 40-60 year old that buys an RS4

PhilM - (from about a page back !)

yes, but we are talking about the real deal/driving here, not whether your mum finds the BMW badge more accetpable than the STi!

the M3 may be a good car/nice interior blah blah blah, but most of the bods on here care more about the driving.

and dont forget the STi stuffed the M3 with Stig at the wheel, and EVO mag at some track thing some time back

must be really frustrating for you BMW types not being able to just push-in to the front of the debate!

Cool

Again i think a lot of people are missing the point. I suspect the cossie would have had to have had some serious mods???If someone took an M3 and chucked the same amount of money on it as most of us do in tuning then i think again, we wouldn`t be having this conversation.
Also with the RS4 , isn`t that pushing near 400 out the box, so to speak???
I think all this talk about wasting this and that model on the roads is total pap unless you know the driver of the other car and know he is trying. I have lost count of the amout of times i had to let someone go because the missus was yelling in my ear about behaving and so to the other driver, he just wasted a GTR and would post similarly to some of the notes on here. I said it previously and i will say it again, take your cars to some of the meets or trackdays , then you will see just how fast or slow some of these cars are because at least you wil have a sound knowledge that the other person is trying. You are only making yourself look pretty silly when you start claiming to be thrashing high performance cars which ownership biased aside, you know you dont have a hope in hell of playing with. This is in no way a slating of the scoob etc as its the same on GTR forum where you feel like telling people to just shut up before making a tit of themselves. I dont doubt for one minute that there are some high powered scoobs on here as with GTR but an exhaust, induction and a few tweeks here and there do not a super car killer make!!

The new RS4 Avant is 344bhp and 303lbft and probably nearly 1000kg heavier than my Type R which is approx 310bhp/310lbft.

Are you suggesting that it should have outperformed the scoob????????????

Also I think most of us on the forum are aware if someone is mildly, seriously or dangerously commiting thier cars, so perhaps give some posts the credit that they may well deserve......

As you are a GTR owner, I thought I would add that my best friend has a R33 with 618bhp and I know how that goes when its being driven 10/10s

You might be suprised with how well a tuned Type R fairs........... (not on a straight drag I must add.........twisties only)

I know what you mean mate , you get the "compulsive nervous/excitement laughter" when your in something like that.
0-100 is fast but the 100-200 is the jaw dropper (Autobahns obviously)......

You simply laugh your head off cos its soooooo bizarrely fast.

I've been in my mates R33 with 618bhp and had a drag off a roundabout with a modded R1 bike.
The bike took a few lengths initially , then we wound it back in around 170 and then passed it and went off into the distance..................

We pulled over for a chat a few miles down the road and the biker was pissing himself and just couldnt get over it................

Got back in the Type R and it felt pedestrian..........

A friend and I recently tracked our cars, his a current model M3 and my PPP'd STI7. The STI was easily faster overall on the twisty Anglesey circuit and held it's own on the short straights. Swapping cars same result so can rule out the driver.

Same weekend, an old shape M3 stuck it to me big style in a straight line up a long hill. There's always someone faster...

The RS4 has 380bhp, its the new S4 that has 344 bhp (and it beat the M3 round the track on Top Gear)

Must say i find it strange that BMW owners come onto a Subaru site and get offended by owners saying how marvelous and fast their cars are in comparison with whatever. Can't say i've ever been onto a BMW site but then i've never wanted to pay £40,000 for a highly modded 318i Coupe either, but of course in true BMW owner style it's only because i couldn't afford one hey(yes i could).

Right, off to www.imastuckupbeemerdriver.net to see if they rate my scooby.

I would not be surprised about the type R as it has a fairly `trick` dif on it which makes up for a lack of outright power on the track.
I am not saying just because something has more bhp it automatically makes it faster but it does help. I think a lot of blinkers are on as to how much bhp is lost due to awd/fwd transmission losses thats all.
To behonest guys , my next purchase is going to be the scoob , just haven`t decided on which model /spec etc however unlike other forums, this one seems to be the one full of the most arguments etc.
At least other car forums dont slate anyone or everything that is talked about plus they can admit that their car is not the fastest thing on the road. Before anyone says it, yes, i probably will just disappear back to the other forums as quickly as i appeared however i will not be letting this representation of scoob ownership put me off buying one.
No offense to the site owner or moderators but is there another scoob enthusiasts site to visit perhaps with a more realistic and freindly bunch of users??

Sorry for the late reply Saxo Boy but I've been busy spending time with some real people rather than being glued to the cyber kingdom 24x7
Anyway for what its worth I am quite willing to 'play' with all types (Skoda Favia yesterday !)
I'm quite happy to display the awesome power of my STI7 to people who drive anything, even French cars....bring it on...

Is the guy on here who has a white Impreza and raced me down the A52 last week from Grantham to Bingham?

If so which do you reckon is faster, when an M3 actually wants to race?

as for all this bendy stuff, take a look at http://www.evoposters.net/caralbums/vids/donnington.wmv

Cool

Actually my weekend consisted of a relaxing friday evening contributing to this thread and watching TV (deep rising - so poor that its good ), on Saturday I had a long lie and then some training followed by a wash, hoover and interior clean of the car and then some pro-evolution soccer against my bro Sunday I met up with Sipie and went to the hot-hatch spectuacular at Knochill to laugh at the neds, in the evening I played pro-ev again and had a tidy in the house prior to sitting down to watch (laugh) at Robocop with my flatmate

All in all a quiet and relaxing weekend which is probably more than can be said for the person that got so fizzed they just had to go and create a new and pointless user name

Oh, and thats a nifty bit of lift-off oversteer from the focus

Both me and my friend own STI's, his is UK spec mine is Type r both V5's. My car is a bit faster but not a great deal.
We were in his UK STI about a month ago when we had a race with a brand new M3 it pulled about a cars length infront of us up to 80, about 3 cars length by 100 and about 10 cars length by 135.
It was a monster! I hate to admit it, but as standard, the M3 has the edge.
I have beaten countless older shape M3's in my type r, but again, if the race goes much past a ton the M3 pulls back a little bit.
They are very different cars.
Evo magazine got a STI8 PPP to 60 in 5.3 and on the same day got the M3 to 60 in 5.1. The scooby was a little quicker around the track though.

2 year old brick wall eh??

well, at least us kids know how to play, and not get all stuffy and up tight about being beaten!

and nice one to Slasha!

forgot to mention that Sky had some car programme on recently - M3 vs Evo8 vs STi8.

STi won, with M3 last (as usual me thinks) hehehehehe.......
