Cupraman - ignore Phil M, hes just bitter after being takin' in by all the BMW bullsh!t

people only buy Beemers if they've got something to prove or an ego the size of Leicestershire.

just enjoy the glory!

Makes me laugh that you say an M3 is based on a 318 coupe, whats yours based on a 1.8 GL FWD **** thing or something similar?

Look at my posts, ive never actually slated an impreza turbo, in fact i quite like them and have been in a few (sti v4 type ra and a '98turbo ppp).. But after been to many trackdays in M3's all i've ever done is pass scoobys therefore coming to the conclusion that the M3 is a better car.. thats all

I take it the M3 is running good then Phil.
Bring it along to Bedford Autodrome in the winter time when its more fun and less damaging to your car and we`ll have some fun.
My mate is gonna do one in his CSL thats coming this September and Steve`s Skyline is now well and truly ready!!

Actually most people on here with M3's upgraded from their Scoobs when every Tom, Dick and Harry bought one and made them into the new boy racer RS.....

I would just to add my 2p's worth

No car is perfect in all conditions! Too keep it inline with this thread i'll just use the two generalisations:

1) Point and squirt! mostly RWD, high power, moderate handling, longer gear ratios etc, best clasification would be a Track race car / touring car, most grunt mid to high end. This would be the M3

2) Corners like there is no tomorrow! Moderate to high power, mostly 4WD, low gear ratios, Low down to mid grunt, excellent handling in both dry, wet, and slippery conditions (i.e. gravel (I'd like to see an RWD M3 compete in the world rally, that's be a laugh!)). Best clasification would be Rally car. This would be the scooby!

So all these people trying to take the p!ss out of the scooby for being slower blah blah blah, change the fing record! Both cars were designed for completely different purposes and come from completely different back grounds!

Trying to say one is better than the other is really a load of bollocks! Straightline tarmac race, M3 would win over most scoobies. but then again, take them both on a gravel rally course, the scoob would p!ss all over the M3 and then leave it to eat dirt!

Out of the two of them, they are both the best car, in their own environments! Fair play to the people who can keep up or beat an M3, with enough power and mods, a f'ing Lada could beat an M3.

Don't rip the **** outta one another cause of a cars capabilities, respect them (the cars that is) for what they are!

Evil

That sort of goes without saying and I don't think was ever in any debate. The debate was whether a 300bhp new age scooby (hence heavier than a classic) could live with an M3 on a motorway drag which you stated is 'M3 environment'

Cool

Just got my first scoob yesterday (Type R). I have been driving it non stop(well nearly), mostly looking for scalps, and whilst it has taken a few, nothing too serious.....untill tonight!
Just turning out of my road I spied a new M3 convertible, he noticed me and as I pulled out quickly behind him, he realised my intention. We poodled along til the next turning which is a 1 mile, almost straight piece of A road.
I was in second and I supose he must have been too as we both had a rolling start out of the junction.
He put his foot down as did I, he couldn't pull away from me, but then I wasn't making much ground on him, a little if any, it seemed to be neck and neck up to 80 before he bottled and put on his brakes.
He was two up, I was four up. I know this may be a little sad, but it made my night!
The M3 driver didn't look best pleased as I pulled up beside him at the next junction.

Nope, I just know what Scoobynet can be like when someone posts that they a) raced another car and b) went 'baiting' Personally I think its that you got a nibble but I'm too self concious to make my hopes known on the road. I followed a Marcos for a while today but would have felt like a total tool if I'd tried to bait him even though I was itching for him to floor it

Can't say I blame you The novelty will wear off when you see how quickly it can use fuel

I must admit, you can hear a slurping sound when you put your foot down. I don't think I'll measure fuel use by miles per gallon, rather, gallons per mile!

Out of nterest, what is the MPG on one of these monsters?

I recon I get an average of about 23mpg and thats about 60% motorway, 20% country roads and 20% town!! The problem is when you decide to have fun it screws up all your good work if you've been driving normally! Its amazing how quickly you can use a 1/4 of a tank if you are trying!!

It's always the mention of a skyline that sends the M3s packing with their tail between their legs...

Even semi-decent Supras p1ss all over M3s - check out www.mkivsupra.net and go to one of the meets to have some fun!

When comparing jap-crap to M3's, the skyline and supra are more relevant because they are GTs and not rally cars...

It's pleasurable to humble M3 owners who really think they own the road. BTW, my mate has a P-reg evo 3.2 version coupe, midnight purple and alacantra interior...nice and smooth sounding, just not raw enough for my likings.

hi im a newbie noob but, i own a m3 convertible 98 model and chose the car because of several reasons such as appeal looks performance and above all re sell value, now i had people (friends saying by my gto etc its faster. But i dont want a suped up car with engine at its limits. The fact is the bmw m3 engine is near on bullet proof if looked after ie regular oil changes.plus if u spent £10,000 on engine add ons and mods u would get the m3 to match near on any car, but most m3 drivers like the moresubtle aproach like myself, standard m3.the amount i paid for my car i could have got a fully done up skyline but i didnt want an engine that will last a year or 2 with out £'s being spent i wanted reliability, any way thought id put me 2 pence worth in, take it easy u all and enjoy what ever u drive(a cars a car

the only car to beat me was an m3 but that was last september when i only had a aftermarket b/box and centre pipe he come off a roundabout first about 20 metres in front pulled from us but not alot considering the power and only had the car 1 week so still getting use to it but i would to think from a standing start i would match or even beat him as i have a downpipe, panel filter, dawes device on 1 bar also when ever you see a m3 its always loads of blokes in there that looks really homo especially in the convertable

Type RA (standard unmodded JDM model)

0-60 in 4.3
0-100 in 12.9

Why mod ???

Well I did anyway. Stainless Cat back and air filter just so it can breathe a little easier.

In the latest issue of Autocar, the evo VIII FQ300 beats the M3 to both 60 and 100. I'm sure a RA Spec C would do the same.

EVO tested a few cars round a track back in March.
The M3 lapped at: 1.26.85
The STI PPP lapped at: 1.25.15
The 911 lapped at: 1.23.20
All done in dry conditions.
