Gays to be able to get "married"

Scary, still amazes me how extreme peoples veiws can get without any substance to there view.
Gays, some are a laugh, some are irritating gits, some ok,some bright , some stupid some with extreme views ect ect..
Just a differant sexual orentation.
I just think it is odd that 'the state can dictate who can get married in the first place' thought that was up to the prospective mother-in-law

I really struggle to see why two people should have any more or any less rights because of sexual orientation than any two others who have shown the same level of commitment.
- they would pay less tax
- they wont bear children
- they would be allowed to adopt children, and I think that's not right: two men or two women could not possibly have a child the normal way (the way I and probably you

Actually, I will answer.
I think any activity between adults is fine, as long as the following conditions are met:
1. Everyone involved must consent to being involved
2. Everyone involved must be capable of giving their consent, (i.e. nobody involved has the mental age of a child etc.)
3. Everyone is free to withdraw their consent at any time and they should cease to be involved in the activity at that time
4. The activity should not harm or inconvenience anyone else and should not put anyone else at risk of harm.
I'm not going to comment on whether I would consent to **** sex.

Claudius, as per the post at the top of the page, I think it's fine as long as it's consensual and between adults capable of consenting.

I'm with Josh and Turbokitty on this - the level of homophobia shown on this and other threads on Scoobynet recently is (to me anyway) alarming - it's like being back in the dark ages.
I don't think anything I say or do will change anyone's minds, but it won't stop me trying.
Regards,
tiggers.

Sounds like a typical woman always keeping the option to change her mind at any time / change the rules after the game has started.
![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
But the right to change one's mind in this sort of situation applies to blokes too. If we're saying anything goes, as long as it's consensual, everyone should have the right to change their mind at any point.

Interesting thread.
One of my mates is openly gay. He has been in a long term relationship with another bloke for about the last 7 years. Recently he was unsure with the way it was going and pulled some other bloke in a bar. But when he was getting down to business with this bloke he realised that he was making a mistake and wanted to be with his long term lover. Now they are back together and are happier than ever. This news will only make him happy too cos he loves this guy. And if being with him makes him happy then I'm happy for him. Fair play to him too, MC Ribbz once said "do what you want as long as you're having a good time" It would be nice to see a few more people think like that as I'm sure the world would be a nicer place for it.

Look at that, I got moderated by a chick thinking something I have taken from a gay site is "too graphical". Well, maybe it was a little graphical, but isnt that what the people you all support so much in their efforts to get married do?

UB said quote: "do you still think these people are *normal* in the everyday family sense?"
I don't think the everyday family is "normal" either. Normal is whatever we choose to do as individuals- it's "normal" for us to behave in the way we choose.
Everybody is different, it's just that some people are intolerant of others. Let them get on with their lives, live and let live, worry about yourself not what others are doing and we will all have a better life.

Amazing thread.
Does anyone here actually know WHY same sex partnerships/marriages are frowned upon in the first place.
Also, looking at things historically, there was quite a lot of homosexual activity going on throughout the ages. Funnily enough, the "oldest profession in the world" is also frowned upon.
What would you do if you found your child was attracted to somoone of the same sex.

I guess being allowed to marry has been on the cards for some time now. After all, they've been allowed to parade around with gold wheels for years now
BTW I have gold wheels so no offence intended!

oh this is such a mad argument, it could be debated for infinity...
yes, i'm worried about the longterm outcome of this, how will it effect things in 50 years. Will traditional family units exist? they barely do today. But, is tradition right? I like to think so.
Personally I'm not anti-gay, but as nature dictates what they do is physically "wrong". We are all here to ensure the human race continues and they do not fulfil that purpose, but then again neither do infertile couples or people that choose not to have children.
So, I don't think this can come down to actual sexuality but it is more about society and how everyone wishes to view it and of course, everyone will always have different views. In on hand we can all feel very strongly about this and argue forever, yet on the other hand in a relatively short time in the earths history we will all be worm food, so, what's the point.
In conclusion, I haven't a clue. I guess if this makes more people happy then it is a good thing...

The level of anti-gay feeling on this thread doesn't suprise me given the demographic that a BB like this attracts, but at least we're having a debate.
To answer a common point, a large percentage of gay men do not engage in sodomy.
Also, those with a misguided view that the "traditional family unit" still exists should get out more. 1 in 3 marriages end in divorce and we have the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe.

What I want to know is why so many people think that the "traditional family unit" is the way things *should* be.
Just because it's the way it's been in this country, traditionally, it's not necessarily the "right" way and there's no reason it has to continue this way. Plenty of other cultures and countries have different arrangements. We created the "rules" for ourselves at some point, why should we not be able to change them?
