i smell a rat eg no insurance cover? have you checked out his details? eg address/phone?

Surely you should be reporting the accident anyway? to the Police and you must then report the accident to your own insurance company ?
I wouldn't leave myself open like this if I were you. After all you don't know this person from the next do you ? Doesn't claiming through insurance give you some legal protection anyway, in terms of the reapir being carried out to a satisfactory standard ?
