jason taylor, yeah, that sort of what I'm saying. If going fast is your business then you don't have to spend a massive amount. If going that little bit fast is you business - with leather, climate, a fancy badge, bullet-proof build quality, etc, etc then you have to pay a price!!

A 10k hot-hatch is almost as fast as a 20k jap turbo in the same way that a 20k jap turbo is almost as fast as a 40k M3 which is almost as fast as an 80k 911..... You double the price each time but only add about 10% (total guess) performance. That said there is no doubt I'd have the porka if I could afford one - I like my cars, what can I say In fact, didn't EVO mag once figure that a 911 turbo was easily worth 10 Ford Ka's but not quite worth 2 tuscan's, etc?

What's going on with this thread? A saxo against a scoob????

You're having a laugh!!!!

You could miss out the M3 in your last statement too coz even a slightly modded scoob can hold off or beat a 911. Been there, done that.

I had a VTR a few cars ago and I've done the BMW side of things too. Don't mean to upset you but honestly' deep down do you think a saxo can compare to a scoob in ANY department?

Baffles me some of the talk that goes on in here!

LOL @ rattles

The VTR is pants IMHO as it lacks the icing on the cake....pull! I don't have a saxo anymore but I recon I could lap a track almost as fast in my old standard VTS than I could in my 275bhp scooby. I've just been out in the scooby an hour ago out in the sticks and whilst it was brilliant on the some corners on others it was understeer city where the VTS would have clawed on no probs - I'd be tempted to turn the dawes as far down as it would go to remove my straight-line advantage and then see how the scooby fairs!!

The VTS did 15.3s 1/4m and I've seen some standard scoobys (usually 02's) doing low 14s (as in 14.9) with a launch! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that from a rolling start it isn't going to be much of a difference!

This is one of the vids from SSC - I know its probably a public road and therefore likely to be foolish but lets no go there.

Granted its been slightly modded with induction and a decat (hence the engine check light) but you'll see that from 0-100 a VTS with £150 of mods is pretty quick You'll also see the myth of '1.6 so can't be good above 60mph' is also crap as it only runs out of puff IMHO at about 110.

The name say's it all, No doubt that you still love the saxo (Saxo).
just about every thread i'v read where you compare cars, You use your old saxo as an example.

Even this thread your ranting and raving about the saxo, For a scooby driver, You do come across as very "ANTI-SCOOBY" sometimes.
IMO.

It is quite funny

I love my scooby I just don't feel I need to say much about. Everybody knows them and everyone knows what they can do. I have about 1 tenth the amuont of 'races' (calling them that as its the easiest word to use) in the scooby that I've had in the Saxo. People see the scooby and just don't bother as everyone knows exactly what they are all about. In fact some people overestimate their abilities IMHO. On the other had EVERYONE hates Saxos and for love nor money will not admit that they are actually pretty quick. I bet I'd get a far more favourable response if it has been a 106 GTI which is pretty much the same car

It frankly goes without saying that my scooby (with its mods) is better than my Saxo but that doesn't suddenly make the Saxo a crap car. I suppose you'd all expect me to come no here and slag off Subaru's if I bought a 911 tomorrow Sorry, but I won't do that!! My scooby is a great car now which means in my eyes I'll always feel it was a great car even when I've moved on to bigger and better things (says he hopefully!)

You said yourself Si that you were gutted that nothing went wrong with it after you sold it

My ideal garage would have a hot-hatch, a 4wd jap turbo an M3, a ferrari and a big american muscle car........and no doubt more Hot-hatches are

Don't know kenny (Saxo boy). But your comment on being pro-saxo rather than anti-scooby is a more accurate interpitation.
You have a better/more articulate use of the english language than i.
Plaese excuse my last comments saxo, you ickle saxo loving ****

Personally I am delighted that you don't want to live in Scotland

Resorting to telling people to .....

GO AND PLAY WITH THE TRAFFIC OR SOMETHING
ain't going to do you any favours here mate and by turning it into a cross border slagging match makes me smile it's a SIAL if ever I saw one

Ta for the entertainment and yup .... we Scots fully expect to get put out in the first round of every football competition we actually make it into.... but that then leaves us fans more time to be jovial and to mix and have a good time and a beer with the opposing fans.... sorry I completely forgot you won't quite grasp that bit ....

Chill and be happy

I don't get it saxo boy kenny.

One minute you're saying your saxo could slay a scoob on the corners and would beat it on the track, the next, you come back with a quote like that!

Wisen loon!

Remember, I had a saxo. Granted, good car and handles like a go-kart. Absolutely not a hope in the world it could compare with my scoob.

**THUMP** - Saxo boy comes back down to reality!

Some people are getting too serious on here though. If you don't like the debate, don't post your comments. Simple

I've had my finest scottish football moment and that was watching Archie Gemmill score v Holland in 1978 coupled with the 'hand of god incident' and I've just learned to accept that it ain't going to get any better than that for us lot until we can actually produce some decent players

As for Kenny and his strange fascination for pieces of French Citroen junk , then maybe the time has come for me to stop defending his misplaced loyalty

Cheers
Si

Better doesn't mean faster. In a striaght line my scooby spanks my old saxo by a massive margine - about 8 car lengths judging by what I did to the 106 GTI at Crail. When you or on the sort of tight road that goes left, right, left, right, right, right, left, right in the space of about 10m the scooby spanks the Saxo, when its wet the scooby spanks the saxo, when I want to have friends in the car the scooby spanks the saxo, when I want to have fun its a draw, but.....when you are on long sweeping corners or a roundabout if thats your kick then the VTS will hold on longer. I could fix this with 17s, lower suspension, etc but then for the same money you could mod a saxo's suspension.

Nairn, are you familure with the stretch of road next to the dam at Inchnadampf (spelt as it sounds?) This a lovely sweeping bit of b-road about 40-50m south of Ullapool. I assure you that the Saxo is faster on that road as it will cling on where my scooby tries to take me swimming

Its all irrelevant anyway! If I've had a bad day I'll wear my ***** on my sleave and drive like a mad-man and no amount of power or grip is getting past. Other days I take it easy so the car is largely irrelevant as long as you enjoy it
