Angry

I was a bit disappointed to read some of the responses in this thread talking about the age of drivers in scoobs.

You all talk about giving people a bad name by driving like a nutter - You seem to have a stereotypical image of young drivers already, regardless of what type of car they drive!

I'm 23 and have worked damned hard to be able to afford my car. I bought it because I love the style and the power.

What gives you the right to dictate which cars a driver can own and at what age??

I'm not about to sell my car just because some **** says that I'm not old enogh to drive one!!

Both my parents were feds. My dad was trained in high speed driving techniques and he has made sure that all his knowledge has been passed down to me.

The attitude of some people on here makes me sick!!

There's a large number of good, genuine guys on here who are always willing to help but then you come across the TRUE muppets that almost convince you that you don't want to be a part of this community any more.

SORT IT OUT!!!!!

Scooby 96.

I'm not professing to knowing everything.

What I AM stating is that I've been taught well and probably know a lot more than most people my age.

Now stop being such a pr1ck about this. You don't know me so don't try and judge me.

Thumbs up

Well said steve_nairn_sti!

It does start to wear a bit thin when people on Scoobynet continuously go on about twenty-something year olds driving scoobies and how they are too inexperienced etc to drive such a powerful car.
Also the assumption that this age group must have had their parents help in buying the car is laughable (although some probably do so fair enough comment!).
Twenty something year olds work and save up for cars too you know! Just don't tar us all with the same brush.

one of them in the passenger seat was asking me how quick i thought my car was so i replied quick enough and why did he want to know. He said lets see how quick it is against their`s, i knew then they probably wasn`t from off here so i just said to him whats the point when i know my car is quicker than what your in so why do i need to test it! He said you reckon its fast! I said no i don`t reckon its fast i know it is and was laughing at him
Red to a bull IMHO

All pretty harmless IMHO is it really that big a deal!

I was tailed by a couple of max power freaks from a distance of at least 4 inches and jeered at for not going for it with them didn't bother posting on here about it though

so what do you suggest we do to get rid of this type of owner captain sensible as i'm sure no evo drivers go round wanting to race people. i'm in my 30's and bought my scooby for it's comfort, fuel economy, and capable low speeds around town. Speeding, surely not! Lighten up and stop throwing stones from your glass house, oh and less attitude might go down a bit better.

Slasha you would have a different view if you knew a family that had their daughter taken away from them when she was only 9 by these F_cking idiots that want to race on main roads, thats why ive a chip on my shoulder as i had 2 go to that funeral! The driver couldn`t stop as he was going 2 fast, i held back from saying this in any replies i did as its something i don`t want to be reminded of but some of the talented ****** that have replied on here that can`t read wouldn`t be saying what they have said if they had to go through the experience of seeing a family grieve the way i did. I aint saying drive around like a sunday driver as these cars aint designed for that like you said in so many words, just pick your places where you do it as these clowns i came across would be doing the same in a built up area where anyone could step out from behind a parked car! I aint saying a word more on here about this as whats the point when so many of you need can`t read and should get contact lenses or reading glasses.

This thread is quite interesting.....

I too had a similar experience with a certain white Evo the other week while pulling onto the M62. He was right behind me, obviously trying to encourage me to race and unfortunately I rose to the challenge.

Pulled away by quite a distance if I remember rightly then I had to slow down and wait for him to catch up...

DO you remember the experience Mr Imprezza99uk????

lol Andy! I was keeping a safe distance from your exhaust flames, thats my excuse anyway! I`ll tell you when i see you but basically this Scoob anchored on to a stop on the East Lancs after passing me and in the outside lane as well and wanted a race, i only stopped as i thought it was a lad i know from Crewe who has the same identical car! I ended up making a joke of it by saying whats the point of racing you when im in a quicker car anyway and i was hoping that would have made them go on their merry way, you can`t win with some because if i had raced them i would have got slated for doing it!

Imprezza99uk.

I agree with you when you say that some people can be idiots in cars. I was a firefighter for three and a half years so believe me when I say I have seen some pretty shocking sights.

The point I have been trying to get across is that irresponsible drivers come in all different forms. It's not just young drivers who drive wrecklessly.

Slating people for not reading your posts properly is a bit off..... espescially after some of the spelling mistakes that are in them

Maybe it's only people who haven't gone to school that are qualified to read your inarticulate postings??

Akshay, me and Andy (EvoRsx) know each other and he was posting a witty thread as we were both on our way to a Scoobie/ Evo meet and were driving down together. He was taking the mick as he can accelerate quicker than me as he is running more boost, we were just doing legal speeds hence a lot of the way they had 50 mph restrictions for roadworks! I thought you may have been able to add 2+2 with the smiles at the end of his post!

Steve_Nairn

None of what i said has been saying that its all younger drivers that drive in this way like idiots as it aint and your spot on with that! My thread from the start and what ive posted has been about the idiots that you get on the roads that are neither enthusiasts or give a dam about any one else using them, check what ive posted and i havn`t said once that its younger drivers that are the idiots. What i did say is these 3 lads in this particular car were young and they were looking to race someone given the oppertunity! Anyway in hindsight it was probably best not posting this on a scooby board with a scooby involved as i should have known that i`d get some F_ck witt replies from a minority, the genuine ones on here know what the thread is its obviously only them that have read anything word for word and not just picked bits out they want to use for bait!

Hope you weren't referring to me in that last bit of your reply - I have read every post and understand where you're coming from with the racing. I take your point that you directly have not tarred all young drivers with the same brush but there are others on here that have and that made me a bit irate.

What we could ALL do with remembering is that this site is a good referencing tool with some VERY useful information on it.

Lets not all start slagging each other off and agree to disagree where necessary.

P.S. Do a search for "smileys" and you'll be able to do this....

Steve the last thread wasn`t aimed at you! I`ll work on the smiles but i don`t get that much time in-between racing about the streets and decorating my car with neon lights! (Smile) that will hav 2 do until i found them smiley things! Its probably best knocking this one on the head now as everyone has given their own oppinion and thats what forums are about everyone having their own oppinion whether right or wrong!

Steve, presumably you did attend school and are qualified to read articulate postings and understand terms like inflammatory, hypocritical, and contradictory??

e.g.

The attitude of some people on here makes me sick!! Lets not all start slagging each other off
The insight and skill you have obtained in a limited period of driving is truly impressive. You should therefore realise, if by no other measure than that of your insurance premium. That you fall into a driver group (male - late teens - early twenties) that carries a high liability of accident, injury and death.

It's not a matter of stereotyping but one of statistically significant fact. Strangely you leap in to defend the supposedly maligned young driver but virtually ignored the critical comment about racing on the highway.

At the end of the day it's irrelevant if my loved ones are maimed by an 18 or a 68 year old. The consequences of irresponsible or inept driving remain the same.

But I find the concept of being goaded to race by a driver with 4 years experience who still believes himself infallible. Infinitely more probable than a challenge from one that has driven for 40 years.

Edit to avoid pi$$ take about spelling

PMSL with Banshi.

Fair comment, I did get irate earlier in this thread. It's fair to say that I got angry and I apologise profusely. I hope you dont think I'm being sycophantic by apologising but you, as an educated member will understand how exasperating it can be when you're trying to voice your salient points but nobody recognises the significance of the matter.

We can all swallow dictionaries if we want to. I'm no better than anyone else on here and my technical knowledge is far from good however I do know right from wrong.

Unfortunately young drivers ARE stereotyped, statistics aside. Statistics focus on trend analysis, not individual cases. All I have been asking in this thread is that people judge each other on an individual basis.

It's not acceptible in society to be prejudice towards blacks, women, traffic wardens, (whatever!!!) so why should it be acceptible with young drivers?

On that point, I feel it's time to bow out of this thread and look for a more sensible topic.

Enjoy arguing with your shadow now Banshi.

Been known to jump in feet first myself, no need to apologise to me, might start a trend

I wouldn't consider you a psyciewotsitsname, but surely your not implying I've been deliberately argumentative

Must find a tongue in cheek smiley

If we meet up I'll have to buy you a beer as well, just so long as you don't call me Grandad

I was coming out of Liverpool last night on the East Lancs in My Evo when a Bug eye shaped either Wrx or Sti in WRC blue passed me on the outside lane with 3 young lads in. He flashed his fog lights a cple of times as he went past so i flashed him back out of courtesy to another enthusiast! Next thing the car stopped in the 2nd lane of the dual carrigeway and the passenger was waving his arm out of the window for me to stop, i know a few N West Scoobie owners and thought it may have been someone of here so i just pulled along side him to see what he wanted. No traffic was about as it was 2 am so i thought i`ll see whats up, one of them in the passenger seat was asking me how quick i thought my car was so i replied quick enough and why did he want to know. He said lets see how quick it is against their`s, i knew then they probably wasn`t from off here so i just said to him whats the point when i know my car is quicker than what your in so why do i need to test it! He said you reckon its fast! I said no i don`t reckon its fast i know it is and was laughing at him, i had a girl with me so i couldn`t be @rsed anyway not that i would if i was on my own as ive gone past that stage with being 34. One thing i did notice though is the driver said nothing and it was his mates mouth that was doing 0-60 in trying to get me to rise to it, maybe the driver does know his cars and was thinking if i did rise to it he would have an embarrassed look after a few 100 yards when he was chasing exhaust fumes! Anyway like i said im an MLR member and an enthusiast like most of you are on Scoobynet and its idiots like these planks that you don`t want giving you lot a bad name and scoobies in general, i reckon they were all around early twenties or younger. I was just laughing at them as they were entertainment and even the girl i was with was laughing at the lad in the passenger seat, they wern`t looking for trouble they just wanted a race but you don`t want that type getting pulled by the boys in blue as they will at some point and giving scoobies a tag of boy racers! But you are lol just joking!
