It amazes me that people still don't think the M3 if fast yet at least JB agrees with me! Maybe its just scottish M3s I've seen two E46s driven flat out and all I'll say is.....good god they shift!!!!

I'd go for the M5, in the real world with a driver they have about 25% higher torque to weight ratio. Plus you can debadge them Plus you can get a 30000 miler for the price of a new STi or Evo. Totally different class IMHO. Is this BMWnet ?

The E39 M5 is slower than an E46 M3! They don't sound as nice either. An E46 M3 is quicker than most factory Imprezas ( I'd guess P1 and 22B are quicker to 60? ), not including PPP cars. They sound the absolute bollocks too, totally different noise to a flat four rumble, but lovely none the less. As the revs rise, it turns to a howl, getting louder the nearer you reach the peak power at 7900rpm.
Seen mags get them to 60 in just under 5 seconds, not bad for a N/A RWD car. I wonder what the new M3 CSL can do...

How would that **** an M3 owner off?
Look how much more of a superior product your getting with the M3, and if you want to go down that road a 15k caterham could beat a PPP STI 8 or watever, would that bother a scooby driver? err no!

Look I'm really sorry to get involved on this again, but you can't say the M3 is a superior product as that is not a fact. To you it might be superior, but judged purely on certain criteria alone it may not be.
Based purely on a performance per pound criteria the Scooby is well ahead (in my opinion - just to be careful ;-) ). I know the Scoob hasn't got the ride, the build quality, the interior, the badge or the reputation of the M3, but judged on certain criteria it does give it a run for it's money and the good thing is it doesn't have the massive price tag of the M3 either.
Anyway this has been done to detah on here already and people really could do with just using the Search function or maybe we should create a special forum for the 'Ultimate Driving Machine'.
Regards,
tiggers.

Evo seem to have the M5 at 4.9 and 11.5 to 60 and 100, and the M3 5.1 and 12.3. 269lbft at 5000 RPM and 369lbft at 3800 RPM. So can it be conclusively said that the M3 is quicker than the M5? Certainly not in this example.
I could reel both in without trouble with the 2.0 engine albeit running 25 PSI. 2.33 will be interesting, selling up and getting an M5 is my backup plan if it all goes pearshaped

I powerslided an m3 today with eisenman exhaust and thing had 30 hp over standard it had an other ecu. We had a drift meeting today. This man asked me to powerslide his M3
You don t have to ask that twice
i drove scoobs i drove evo s but man what a quality car that is the handling is so good of that car it s increadable.
Fecking awesome anyone who tells you otherwise has not driven or powerslided one.
fantastic.

JC summed it up nicely on TG tonight, saying that you look like a **** in an M3. I have to agree, the car is fantastic, unfortunately the image that goes with them is undesirable, worse even than a Scooby which is bad enough IMHO.
A nice anonymous looking 5 series with a squillion horsepower and no badges to give it away would be my ideal

JB, sorry mate, haven't seen the Evo figures. I think it was Autocar who tested them back to back a while ago, the M3 came out fastest. I s'pose it all depends who's driving.
I wouldn't turn my nose up at either! But the M5 does look more similar to the "lesser" models, bar the quad exhaust, like SB said.
Rich
tiggers - don't go through the whole "but the Impreza is as fast for much less cash" argument again! In the new Evo, they're saying the M3 CSL is GOOD vfm at £58,445!

rofl about the suits..
The scooby only beats the m3 on one criteria which is ££££££££
others like 4wd etc are in peoples opinion
power and straight line performance is similar (M3 has the edge though )
everything else the m3 wins in, and i mean everything

I must admit what JC said was quite funny but I'd happily look a **** to own an M3. Everytime I see one I don't think '****' I think, 'lucky git!'

I can't imagine ever paying more than about 20K for a car, unless I was super-wealthy. I thought I was pushing the boat out when I paid £14.5 K for my Octavia

9 out of 10 people who traded in their scoob or evo buy another scoob or evo . This BBS is full of people who have owned more than one scoob or evo or both. Also quite a few ex-M3 owners on here who have gone to scoobs or evos. So why do M3 owners think that if you drive a scoob you really want to own an M3 ?.
Yes the M3 is a good car, but not for me and what I want out of a car. I would spend my 40K elsewhere and I am already looking, probably a second hand 911T or a TVR. My car cost new just a little over half the price of an M3 but an M3 isnt twice as fast it cant do 300mph, 0-60 in 2.2 seconds and 0-100 in 6.5 seconds.

tiggers

LOL
crisp you proberly did not drive one the way it should be
i have still my evo and i love it.
but m3 is more fun factor than my evo will ever be.
but lots of you like straight line speed traffic light sprints etc.
i dont
i like sideways fun. So RWD for me
m3 is the nicest compromis you wil find in a semi sports car.

i rather have an subaru than a skoda
As long as the badge snobbery continues, I'll be happy. It means I get top quality cars for a nice cheap price
As my daily and fun car i would never buy a FWD again.
Zero Fun.
Zero Fun.
Not sure how you can make a generalisation like that though - I have plenty of fun in my car, thanks.
