Yes he was tryin it on because it was a new car, but he came clean after a few pints..... Plus it was early in the mornin after a heavy night drinking so it could have been a yugo with VW badge and I'd believed him!

Leon Cuprs R's for example are fine even in the wet at that sort of power as the standard traction control is great- not intrustive & rev cutting other than say 1st geat out of a wet junction!

LOl, Yours may not have any wheelspin,... but mine also doesn't suffer from people trying to carjack it or break into my house in the middle of the night for the keys to nick it. Well worth a bit of wheelspin as far a I'm concerned...

Cupramax it all depends on what peramneters the re-mapped ECU is set to. The 1st Cupra R I drove had the same re-mapped ECU characteristics as the 210bhp S3 (4wd for those that dont know)ie where the cupra R engine comes from and it was a bloody handfull wet or dry in the R's FWD chassis.
The others I've subseqently driven have had the torque curve held back by approx 30 Lbft over a modded S3, but peak BHP was approx the same (265-270bhpish) and was a whole lot better.

I've recently had Jabba's big turbo kit put on my car
I believe its the first Golf 4 with the full production kit on it
Who did the 280 bhp conversion for him - there aren't many companies around with big turbo kits available... is it silver and was it around Goodwood recently - because a guy on the TT forum was surprised by how fast one was recently
Mine is running 321 bhp and will be 360 bhp sortly when its finished. Traction is actually better than with my old K04
the power doesn't start kicking in until about 2900rpm and the max torque is around 290lbs. the big bhp figs come because the IHI turbo frees up the top end, so the new rev limit will be 7500 rpm - compared to standard its still producing alot of torque over 5500rpm upto the 7500 limit
The Ibiza's running around at the moment have 345 bhp (smaller port head on the new 1.8T) recorded 0 - 100 in 10.55 seconds and 160 recently on RACELOGIC VBOX timing equipment -
I believe the car that was booked in after me was a Skoda octavia 4X4 estate for the 345 bhp kit - ultimate stealth machine :-)
Kits range from £2500 - 3500 fitted for those interested

virtually everybody chips them - i got mine chipped 4 days after i bought it and extra 50 lbs of torque and 40 - 50 bhp - makes a big difference - its only running .7 bar of boost standard
and the turbo is dinky

And what piece of fantastic exotica do u drive if you don't mind me asking - ferrari, porsche turbo......
couple of pics - http://homepage.ntlworld.com/williamhawkins/
Gets very little attention, apart from the odd person doing a double take on the brakes
Now has JabbaSport IHI turbo conversion instead of the K04....

A standard Cavalier Turbo will pull away from a 330i beyond 80mph
No chance. With a Superchip, yes, but standard, no.
(Just to clarify, I owned a Cav Turbo for 2 years a while back. Started standard and took it to around 270bhp before selling it).

Last month I opted out of the Company Car set up.... hence the scoob purchase
I gave back a 02 Gti Anniversary Edition. It's the limited eition Golf they sneeked out last year. Very few around and not really advertised to much.
It ran the 180Bhp Engine inline with the 180 TT. Loads of goodies as standard noteably 18" BBS alloys which looked the nuts..
Having owned a 150 brake 1.8T previous the two were like chalk and cheese. The 180 being a far superior motor in all areas. The 6 speed box was lovely.
I took on a Scoob in Harlow one day and in fareness in a straight line got my **** roasted... But bottom line the golf was a great car. Quick enough to upset most other golf owners but a pleasure to drive up and down the motorway too. I covered 22,000 miles in 6 months and enjoyed all of them.
Golf's are great cars. And the anniversary for me is the one to have.

ALL Gti's are 180 bhp now
The engine in the 150 bhp gti's post mid 2001 is the same DRIVE BY WIRE small port head as in the anni - chipped they give from 200 - 215 bhp with around 240 lbs torque
U don't need to get an anniversary

mmm thats interesting - they charge a £1000 more for the 180 bhp version. i thought they had dropped the 150 bhp version. when their both chipped they will produce the same power - doesn't seem to be any difference in the other spec - i would get the 150 and take it to Jabba or AMD for a £500 remap

Wrong again 150hp has a K03 turbo and the 180hp has a K03 sport.... your not doing your homework are you Results chipped would be 195ish-hp for the 150 and 220+hp for the 180. These are based on rolling road results seen on Jabbasport chipped cars.

Pre early 2001 produce 195 bhp when chipped - with the different head and plain K03 & around 200 lbs of torque
while LATE 2001 cars produce around 240 lbs of torque and from 205 /235 bhp - similar to my old K04
Which is the same as any 180 bhp i've heard about
who told you the 150 bhp still used the old k03....

Ok take it back -
Happened to be on the phone to jabba finding when they can finish my car off - soon to be 360 bhp :-):-)
the 180 does have k03s but when chipped the difference is only 5 - 10 bhp - as per Jabba, not me :-)

Sorry to argue here, but I wrote that message because of facts!
I have a friend who has said BMW 330Ci, and three times in a row beyond 80, the Cav Turbo was pulling away from his car EVERY time.
I don't need to justify this, it was done, he was surprised, the Cav was standard, thats it and all about it! The gearing of the Getrag 6speed gives the Cav the edge. Obviously your Cav wasn't running right, else you wouldn't have posted the comment.... I assume!

And, of course, you're both experienced road testers who can achieve consistent results all the time are you? Which publication do you work for?
Gearing makes fack-all difference to through-the-gears acceleration test so that's unlikely to be the reason.
