Don't agree it would "lose a 172". Power to weight more or less the same, Cup 172 especially, grip etc of similar order, so they would be very evenly matched, one would not lose the other.

On one of the tv progs I saw a CTR vs 172 vs something else and the CTR overtook the 172 making it look like it was standing still! I think the CTR is a bit faster than a 172. Especially if Nicole was driving the 172 cos her Papa wouldn't want her driving too fast :O)

Wink

CTR needs an LSD decent Red recaros, more positive steering, a revamp which it is getting Oct 03 I think oh and CTR is a quicker car than a 172.

If you think Honda dealers are bad go and see a Lotus or Renault dealer.

Dugg,

Yeah that'll be that fixed Top Gear race you are referring to. In my experience a CTR will not get away from a 172 before 100, a Cup will match it all the way to 120+!

172 Cups are easily a match for CTR's, and 5k cheaper to boot. Just look at the stats. Better power to weight ratio and acceleration, just lower top speed due to outright power being the key there.

Whats with all the bad Honda dealer experiences

Have had a number of Hondas over the years and dealer service has been excellent

Way better than recent Mercedes Benz main dealer experience

And Renault..LOL....word's fail me....

Cool

Makes me laugh at some of these posts. People saying about having a LCR and the audi and having them chipped to out perform the CTR. A point that is being brushed over is that the CTR is faster in unmodded guise than that of the Audi and Seat when they are unmodded. What about when the CTR is modded compaired to a chipped/modded LCR /Audi

I know its a tad obvious but shall state it none theless, YES i drive a CTR and love it. I know its limitations. In the real world the CTR, the LCR and the Cup are all very similar and on their day will beat each other. All of the 3 mentioned cars are not in the same league as the Subaru and dont profess to be. You cant compair the flagship of the SUbaru range to the hot hatch range of Honda. What about compairing the Subaru to the NSX??

Credit where credit is due. All the cars mentioned are great cars, all of their respective owners will stick up for their type of car though we all have to accept that we will all have different opinions. As i said all are great cars (though Red CTR's are fastest of all )

And they get faster as the miles go buy as all the heavy bits fall off[]

Well I've had my CTR for over a year now, still love it too bit, great handling, great on the track, only cost me £99 so far in bills, that was a service!

I know it has less torque than a scooby, so what, it's great fun, if I get caught off cam on occasion, who cares, I love revving up to 8300 every gear!

I love the fact that it produces 197 N/A horses, and will be reliable for 10 years +, now that's engineering!

I love scoobies aswell, just different cars to suit different tastes.

Get your head out of your
We have already been told we're not allowed to compare the LCR or any other turbo car to the vtec.

The old LCR (210bhp) wasn't far off CTR sprint times was it? so new 225bhp might be a match. not seen figures for it yet.

Value for money - it has to be the cup
Looks - has to be the cup or the seat. the CTR is an absolute minger in my personal opinion (sorry - just looks like a mini mpv to me). I like the looks of the S2000 though so don't go thinking I'm all anti Honda now

Talking

isn't it up to the individual what car they like??? i like the CTR, test drove one before i got the scoob and was very impressed.

Cosworth427 and paul-m, i've been out in a friends porche turbo and his gt3 before it and there is a big difference in the two cars, the gt3 is a race car (rollcage, race harnesses etc, etc) and the turbo isn't although its bl00dy awesome

Juan

there wasnt a LCR at 210bhp was there? Thought it was the Leon Cupra and that was 180bhp. They have just released the LCR, now that has 225bhp. I like them a lot, even concidered one but in my opinion i prefere the looks of the Civic.
If we talk about looks, well its all down to personal taste and interpritation. The Clio for me is a girls car and looks like it too. LCR has a fat bublus ar$e and the subaru could be described as a proton with big scoop and large wheels.

Dont get me wrong though, i like all the cars and wouldnt be disapointed with any of them, its just i chose the CTR for its performance/price/economy/resale/quality.

Its all personal taste at the end of the day, so long as we are all happy with what we have, who give a flying fudge what anybody else says

All this waffle about Torque has done my head in. At the end of the day we're talking about on road ability, and all I know is that every STANDARD UK spec Scooby i've come up against i've beaten, just. Granted it wasn't off the line obviously, but once rolling the advantage of 4x4 has gone. The Bug eye one's are the least impressive, i've more than embarrassed a couple of these.

PERSONAL TASTE.
I have owned a UK Scoob and now own a CTR.
Have kept an eye on this thread for a while, not to clued up on all the figures being put forward, but I dont give a F*ck who is the faster, the Scoob was a quality motor(no sarcastic comments from a fellow chelsea fan who knows who he is),but the CTR is just as much fun,bar traction, as the scoob, and just as quick.
2 different cars IMHO,but the CTR gives me a sense of fun the scoob never gave me,maybe a lack of control feel, but still a more die hard ride.

I personally could not give a t*ss if a piece of French shi*e(in a dodgy shade of blue) can beat me on a quarter mile.I am in a"IMHO"a much better looking and better built car,and on the sreet theres nothing in it,the same can be said for a lot of faster cars as well.
So stop bickering about power figures, and get a life,as I said at the top,its a case of each to thier own,and what each individual wants out of thier car.
If we could all afford it,we would all own Maclaren's and Ferraris, which would save all the arguments, although I'm sure there would be a few die hard *****rs,that would insist, thiers was faster than the others.

Just my 2 half a crowns worth

CTR is a nice car, but I couldn't buy one at the end of the day it looks like Postman Pat's van. And none of the three colours mitigate the looks at all.

Normally takes at least 10 pages for everyone to realise that they prefer their own car and they wont convince anyone to go out and swap theirs .

For me the biggest turn off is that it only has 3 doors which is a right pain.

I also think once you have gone over a certain point performance wise its difficult to go backwards.

I am sure if had a 100bhp Focus and drove a CTR I would be blown away. In the same vain if I had a 280bhp impreza and drove a CTR I dont think I would be as impressed.

My scooby is pretty much standard 0-60 in 4.3, 0-100 in 12.9 when it left the factory . All I have done is add a cat back zorst and a panel filter the rest is cosmetic .

I guess krankyd must mean an Accord Type R and they shouldn't be whooping many Scoobies, being slower in just about every way...

A bloke living close to me owns an Accord Type R, looks very nice, sounds very quiet, unlike the grumble of the flat 4, it wouldn't whoop a scoob either

Yup, it means accord type-r. sorry mate, but against a standard UK turbo (non-sti, p1) it doesn't stand much of a chance.... the only thing to worry about is being caught off guard..

>> looks very nice, sounds very quiet, unlike the grumble of the flat 4, it wouldn't whoop a scoob either

well, it does sound quite.... but when you get into the VTEC it screams not unlike a touring car..... it's very addictive

and about it whooping a scooby, as I said before a standard UK turbs would have problems keeping up.... I've tailed WRX's to over 140 without loosing them.... the look on his face was priceless :P

I meant UK SPEC Scooby's, not Type RA's. I've driven one of them and it was **** hot. No goodies to weigh it down. Just rapidness through and through.
Just out of interest guys. I've always wondered.... What's actually faster out of the P1 and 22B (THE GOD), or are they pretty much the same. Me and my mate had a bit of a argument about it, as I always thought the 22B was the quickest Scoob out the box. (He reckons the P1 is quicker). But I could be wrong and probably am.

Classics wise the type RA is the fastest (aceleration wise) of any scoob closely followed by the type R. The reason the RA is quicker is down to weight (lack of it). The 22B and P1 are 1280kgs where as some of the RA are less than 1200kgs as are some of the type Rs. It really depends on year as some of the Rs are quicker than some of the RAs depending on kit and spec.

As for P1 and 22B similar weight but the 22B has a better torque curve due to the 2.2 litre engine. So my money would be on the 22B.
