I am utterly horrified at what i am reading here...let me dispel a few myths...
the LOTUS Carlton may share parts and the bodyshell with its relative the vauxhall carlton gsi 24v but be under no illusions..this is no carlton with a few mods and a powerful engine...
for starters every single engine was hand built from the block up..the only distinguishable similarity between a lotus carlton engine and the vauxhall lump is the bottom end...EVERYTHING else is completely different.!!!
This is a Type 104 lotus...it was crash tested by a lotus..all the serial numbers are lotus and will refer to the place of manufacture as a lotus...it was crash tested and approved as a lotus...and guess what..it is the fastest production lotus ever built and that still stands to this day...12 years after it was launched...
secondly...an m3 whilst bveing an impressive and quick car (even if it is mostly ****** and egotistical idiots with small dicks who drive them) is not in the league of a lotus carlton.... the lotus is in its own right legendary..and lets face it...when even the mighty Audi RS6 can only just pip it and i mean only just and its 12 years newer and has more driving aids thatn most people have hair folicles wouldnt u say thats impressive??? or would an m3 beat an rs6 hands down???
(sorry its ruffeled my feathers) LOL
also as i have mentioned many a time before..the 377bhp figure is just a guide..alot of them came out of the factory with a fair bit more... i know some standard cars running over 400 bhp with no mods. but the figure that stands it apart is its torque figure which is 419 lb/ft ... most supercars (apart from the nutter ones now...why have the germans gone horsepower mad all of a sudden??) dont even get close to that torque figure!!!
and also ..at the end of the day....the Lotus Carlton is a living breathing legend...it is the daddy of the modern super saloon..the standard by which all others are measured...no other car of its type has such an aura of magnificence...how mahy other cars have there been questions of its right to exist asked in parliament??? the same most certainly cant be said of the m3...besides they are pretty damn common anyway :P
right...i have vented enuff for now![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Gav...I live in North Manchester...funnily enuff one of my best m8s up here is called gav but he has a c43 amg merc
i wont have the Lc till the end of the year or possibly beginning of next year...i will only however have it for a few weeks as its my intention to sell the beast...and buy another one to do up
.
if your still posting here when i have maybe we'll meet up..lol... although living round here its difficult to trust strangers with being near your pride and joy if you know what i mean..lol..
peace out people..any more info required just ask

Bader, I'm pretty certain it was Charlie and it was definitely a brand new engine (I saw the photo's of it still in the crate when it arrived). I did know the engine number (four digit number painted on it?), but I can't recall it at the moment.
If it's of use I will send you the previous owners email address when I get home this evening. I think he paid £5 or £6k but handed over the old turbo's as well...something like that...

Bader,
It's a waste of time talking to some of these people mate, they have no idea!
You will have to mail me as per my profile address and explain what happened with these engines...! This 'Charlie' certainly did have more than one new engine. James W put the previous owner on to him I believe...

To me the LC is one of the most impressive cars ever made, I have on several occassions considered purchasing one of these beasts but for various reasons I havnt quite got there..... yet ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Funny how it takes a £60,000 Audi to beat a £15,000 Vauxhaul![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
I wouldnt bother wasting your time trying to convince others about these cars, some people just can get past the carlton part!
Dream cars!

I rate the LC very highly. I read EVO about 6-7 months ago, and it made me smile that they had this shoot out between Evo's, Impreza's, M5's, Jags, you name it, they had it there. Then they decided to bring out 'the daddy' as they called it, just to see how well the LC would perform against all the new breed of fast cars...... and it trounced the lot of them! ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Assuming I'll ever be old enough to ever be able to afford the insurance, I will have one, maybe only for a few weeks, because they have PROPER running costs involved.
What does irk me somewhat is some of the rather odd observations on Scoobynet. Take the thread about the VX220, and quite a few people made the point that, if it was an Opel branded car, then they would have one.
Consider this: Cavalier GSi 2ooo, Cavalier Turbo, Calibra 16v, Calibra Turbo, all Omegas, all Carltons, all Senators are in fact OPELS! They never made these cars in the UK, they are rebadged for the UK Vauxhall market.
Sometimes the badge snobbery in these forums does my head in. I can afford to buy an Impreza tomorrow, I just choose not to. Bearing in mind, before the Impreza was the all conquering rally king, Subaru were best known for creating cars that only farmers would drive, assuming tinworm didn't get to them first! Subaru XT anyone?
Its all horses for courses, but if your only reason for NOT owning a piece of motoring history is because its Vauxhall 'connection' lowers the tone, I really think you ought to get out more. Most REAL car enthusiasts have nothing but high regards for the LC.
Each to their own I suppose!

I might consider a VX220 if they made a bigger one
, I reckon I could get one on each foot
.
The LC is a great car but lets face it it never really took off sales wise. Thats doesnt make it a bad car just one that really didnt have a market.
I personally wouldnt have one for the same reason I wouldnt have a 22B. Getting hold of the bits when they break and the expense of keeping them on the road ans expect times for them to be off the road. Yes its still an ageing Vauxhall/Opel underneath (enter any manufacturers name here). Like any car of that era the technology has moved on and noone can argue that paint and rust prevention has moved on as well. As indeed has crash protections and toys on newer cars.
The thing that stuck in my mind about the LC was the fact that a 4 door family saloon shouldnt be quick and have outrageous perfromance and should be left to well known sportcar brand names. Sort of rewrote the rules for family saloons.
