Sticky,
its ashame you have that sort of attitude, no doubt your like the complete idiot who overtook us yesterday in his punto, now when i say overtook, i mean, overtook the van that was behind us, then us, then the car in front (by quite a way) of us, all whilst being on the wrong side of the road (a country road btw ) with a blind right hand bend (taking into consideration that he was on the right side of the road rather than the left).
I'll just come straight to the point..... With power comes responsibility, i dont think owning a high performance car and driving sideways around a roundabout in broad daylight near a school is very responsible is it? and if you say "oh there isnt anything wrong with that", well you need to look at yourself in the mirror and think "so im a good driver, responsible and capable, able to own a performance car and not be a complete to55er with it?", hmmmmmmmm........

Not impressed, is this a conspiracy to get everyone under the age of 40 off this site?
23 year old, 4 years no claims, NO POINTS on license, 2 years hard work saving out of uni, £5000 93MY WRX Import and proud of it. So why you did all you buy, cos you liked the image? Think its time you go and trade in for the TT or M3.

But you're young so you shouldnt be worthy of what is baltently the fastest car in the world lol.
This place does make me chuckle, just beacuse he's young hes not allowed a fast car?, im just 24, im driving an Evo now, prior to that I had a P1 & prior to that an STi Type R.
But shock horror because im so young surely I couldnt handle the WHOLE 280bhp that an impreza manages to push out of its chocolate engine?
Jesus I know 18 year old with 2.1 nova's on throttle bodies which would urinate all over 90% of impreza's on this site but you dont say he cant have a quick car - you just rip it out of him for having a Nova.
Maybe sometimes some people could try removing said head from said rectum & realise that the Scooby ISNT particulary fantastic, It just does everything "relatively well".
& then the threads, "I raced an E46 M3 in my UK with PPP & destroyed him" - yeah ok if you say so mate
Same old crap different day
I think even "performance car" is a little strong when talking about most impreza's

Incidentally, 19yr old owns F355 2 streets away from me. So you think all Ferrari drivers are going to sell there car too because of younger person pulling the image down?? I think not. So what his loaded, surely if you had 60k to spend on a car and you was that age, you wouldn't go and buy a new land rover would you?
And as to 'prestige car', hmm, and i thought ppl liked the impreza due to its rally heritage, handling and drive?
Isn't a prestige car something like a jag?

I think evryone is missing the point i was trying to make it has nothing to do with age more about how knowledable the people about their scoobs and their mentality as to how they drive them.
As for how to describe them, shall we say a bit 'nippy' as opposed to performance or presige.

So what exactly are you going to buy that will not have this image? A Morgan, a bently? How exactly is selling the car going to make your life much more enriched, and far away from nasty little youngsters who do what all other people do with a scooby, and try and get it to its potentil, at least some of the time? I don't even have a scooby, and am riled by the attitude you have! I think you are realising that scooby's are not an elite group of motorists, and that they are affordable cars, and you are just not liking that fact! "Oooh... scoobies..they're so common!". get a grip and go buy a saxo, they are so much more refined!

i'm getting pi$$ed off with people on here slating younger scoob drivers. i'm 21 and own a my00 uk turbo, i'm not a little rich kid, a drug dealer or pimp. i'm a professional golfer and work fcukin hard every day, i've loved cars all my life, any cars. the scoob (and evo) is the hero of my era like the escort cossie before it, and i've wanted one for years.
i dont drive like a t*at atall, anyone can go a bit silly in their car, whether its a corsa or ferrari.
just because younger people can afford scoobs now that means you have to sell up??
pretty sad if you ask me...

If everyone read carefully im 22 and owned a scoob at 20 and i love scoobies, thats why i still look at this board every other day. I was thinking of changing in first place and the fact that i thought the image of the impreza was slipping didnt help. I dont think the impreza is exclusive by any means-how can it be when my mothers ford focus costs more than mine did!! The fact is there are no more 'max power' lunatics driving round in them more than ever and its only gonna get worse-any one who disagrees has got tunnel vision purely cos of the fact that they own a scoob.

You're all talking b8llocks when you say 'I didn't buy my Scooby for the image'. Of course you did - who are you kidding? The full scope of the performace and handling of these cars is probably only utilised 1% of time. Unless you're StickyMickey who likes to give his car 'serious grief' without a clue what to do when he understeers off an adverse camber bend at high speed, bringing to an end his poorly spelt posts on this bbs.
Impreza drivers have split neatly into two camps :-
1/ Those than can afford to but and run newer or rarer models (generally older).
2/ Those who buy at the bottom end of the market.
There is a certain amount of antagonism between the two.
As demonstrated above.
I thank yeeew!

The Impreza has for some time been a dream car for Max Power dudes. Now they are as cheap as chips and people don't want them.
I used to wear Ralph Lauren shirts and Levi jeans, then they started selling them in Tesco's so all the people on social security (pikeys) could afford them. So I no longer wear them, and off they went to the charity shop - nasty cheap clothes!!!
The moral of the story is - When things become so cheap that plebs buy them, it's time to buy something else.
ID - Sums things up rather well.

I agree with parts of your post, but why did you attack the older drivers? I saw no evidence elsewhere for a particular attack on the younger ones but just on those people who get a powerful car like a Scooby and then go around terrorising the populace in it. Your remarks about older drivers who won't mod their cars and complain about younger ones who do are totally out of order and inaccurate. You seem to have an unjustifiably extremely biased attitude about this. You really should be certain of your facts before you start slagging certain age groups off. I would never dream of being unpleasant about drivers on the basis of their age, just on the way they actually drive and that would include anyone. You seem like many to have an enormous chip on your shoulder and it does not sit well! You may well feel that you are a more capable driver than an older one. Let me tell you that I know some 60+ drivers who would leave you for dead on a track and make you look so ineffective that your best course would be to sneak out of the exit and go home! I also know some younger ones who could do the same to you. Driving your car round roundabouts etc sliding the front end about does not prove you are a skilful driver.
Image Doctor.
My wife when she read your post said that you obviously picked the right name for yourself. She mentioned the words"superior" and "cardboard". I can't explain what she meant!

Anyone who buys a car for the image alone is an idiot.
I bought my Impreza wagon for its AWD (as I live in the mountains)and practicality. There was no other alternative at the time. The image didn't even come into it for me. In fact here in France where I now live the image is very good, they are an extremely rare car which unfortunately draws attention wherever I go. When the Impreza goes it will probably be replaced by a 330ix (europe only 4wd 3 series variant), I hate the image of that car but it fits my needs perfectly, so I'll probably buy one.
You would have to be seriously shallow to let a cars perceived bad image put you off owning one. Then again I don't view cars as a status symbol like most people in the UK seem to.

Nacro - most 'brands' are sold on image - car manufacturers spend vast somes of money in creating and maintaining a brand image for themselves and for their products. Otherwise why buy a C class Merc when a Mondeo can do the job as well, with more kit and for less money and lower running costs.
The brand values are why most people buy car X over car y, and the Impreza's brand value is that of a rally bred performace car which floats most ppls' boats. The reality in the UK is that you're mostly stuck in traffic or in a queue of 60mph traffic in the 3rd lane of the M1 and might as well have a automatic diesel.
The image of the classic Impreza has dropped off a large shelf since the Nova boys realised they could buy into a rally icon - the bugeye never had an image (my car) while at the top end STI8 etc I think the image is still reasonably intact.

not a good example if you take residule values into consideration the C class costs a similar amount to run as the mondeo. I agree most people in the UK are brand driven- fools IMHO.
A perfect example of this is the VAG group- no way would I buy a VW when Skoda do the same car (in fact better) for less money. A bit like people buying a £10 shirt with a £70 crocodile on it as far as I can see. Let them waste their cash it keeps people in jobs I suppose.

I think a lot of people would love to buy a scooby or similar, but are put off with what people think! and end up buying a mondeo or like. I'm 36 and managing director of a small-medium company, when my Omega came up for replacement I decided i wanted something 'fun', my wife wanted me to buy a Jag, or Beemer, but I ended up buying a MY03WRX with PPP, i'm the happiest 'fu....er' in the world, but when friends and family see it they think i'm a born again boy racer, and have hit mid-life crisis early. everytime of take the car out it makes me realise what a lot of folks are missing out on. The moral of the story is, buy what you want and dont give a bollocks what other people think, you only live once.

Interesting post.
I'm late 40's and when I first saw an impreza, thought it was ugly. 2 minutes after starting a test drive, I decided to buy it.
Like some of you guys, I don't give a to55 what it looks like, it's what it does that matters. If it looks good, that's a bonus.
I was thinking of selling mine (my 2nd), but I couldn't find anything that did what Scoobies do for the money. So I'm going for a full decat and ECU remap instead.
If I get classed as an old fart boy racer who should know better, I couldn't give a to55.
Happy motoring

Soapy Sam,
Spot on, I actually liked the look of my Classic when I saw it but after the first corner I had to "sell my soul" to buy it. Nacro is right, the car sells itself to anyone who likes a driver's car.
Enjoy the mods.

Been reading this and thinking to myself what the F***???
The reason I bought a scoob is the way it drives and handles!! ( I even bought a green one!) I don't give a rats *** if young whippersnappers can afford them now! I see young lads driving Escort Cossies, Lancia deltas etc etc, so what!!!!!!
To BossHogg- I am quite fortunate in that I drive around and work in North Wales-in the twisties. I did 2500 miles last month alone, so yes people DO buy scoobies for the performance and handling- not the image! The sheep aren't impressed by any car!

SULLI,
This has got to be the thickest thing heard on this BBS
"Whats wrong with going sideways round a roundabout in broad daylight - at least you can see that hopefully the road is empty, as opposed to at night, where there may be a sleeping pisshead or similar in the road!"
You don't drive like that in Pulic roads you tool. You save stuff like that track days and private land.
There's road driving and track driving and any decent driver knows that you shouldn't pull stupid stunts like that on public roads, if you think that's ok what else do you see as ok?
No wonder standards of driving in UK are so low with comments like yours.
