That is without adoubt our back box but what confuses me is that what makes you think that they are not mandrel bent !!!,i have just run a vernier round the bent section on another box and the size of 2.5" doesn't change in fact the same size goes all the way through the box.Also have you put a magnet on the box and pipe work ?? and what is this 5mm you have cut off ??.
The reason there is a join between the 2 bends is because for starters we use two different size radius of bends for better gas flow and also we need 4" of straight between the bends for the gripper on the bender to grip before it pulls the next bend

I don't think it is Mandrel bent because the pipe does change in diameter, there is a small reduction in size.
I've tried a magnet on the box and tail pipe and it does not stick. It's only on the pipe going back to the front of the car that it sticks to. Which lead me to believe it is T409.
The 5mm I had to chop out was from the above mentioned pipe, it was a little to long causing the tail pipe to be pushed up onto and rub on the bumper. The BB came from a BugEye which I think may have a larger reassess in the bumper.

I am not trying to cause trouble or slate anyone just trying to give what I would like to think as an informed opinion.

So the back box isn't the problem IT IS the centre pipe !! is that correct.

It is the pipe which comes out of the box (heading towards the front of the car) that connects to the centre pipe. The one which is two pieces welded together that passes the rear diff.

So were did you cut the 5mm from and have you physically measured the bend with a vernier ???

I cut the 5mm from about 6inches in front of the flange on the stright section. No I have not measured it using a set vernier callipers the reduction is easily visible.

Stiler I'm sure Ian would welcome you down for a tour of the factory, and show you the various processes to make the exhaust systems.

Ian would also then be able to see your handy work.....

The small circle show's where I chopped and welded it. The larger one show's where the reduction in diameter is although it is not clear on the photo.

AH HA it has all come to light, the box from what i can see has been damaged and the bends have been damaged to look like they are a compression bend, and the reason it didn't fit.If you want it re-made then we could change the bends for you !!

Thanks for the offer but I think it would be more trouble than it is worth removing the box and all. I am glad everthing got cleared up in the end.

Did I read earlier in the thread that the box in question is for a MY01 but fitted to a classic?

I didn't think they were interchangable unless someone, erm modifies it

A MY01 will fit a classic (H&S exhaust) if Ian modifies it, I think its a £25 quid charge (please ask first)....
