1) You're baby grows up and says "Dad, I have something to tell you... I'm a homosexual"

What would you do?

Their sexuality is their choice, it wouldn't be a problem for me accepting, or understanding it - however being an expectant father myself the thought of this has never occoured to me. What has occoured to me is the fear of my son/daughter mixing with the wrong circles at that impressionable age when rebellion is cool. As long as they know what moralistically is right and wrong in terms of social behaviour, studying, accepting others opinion etc then I'll be happy. I'd much rather hear my child tell me they're gay rather than them telling me they're on a £200 a day coke habit, or been done for drink driving, beat up their wife etc. I'd also be dissapointed if they couldn't spell better than me also

2) It doesn't matter how you answer question 1, but what would you do if you found out their partner was from an ethnic minority? (How about an asylum seeker??)

What would you do about that?

Exactly the same as any other ethnic race even the majority - as long as they are happy and the other half is of good character then I'm happy

3) Assuming you had a daughter and she got pregnant through a gay male friend.

How would you react?

How else can you react? support her as much as you can - she'll be either be overjoyed or sh!tting her self on what to do next. All parents can do is offer as much support and advice as they can, ultimately its her choice.

4) What would you do if they basically told you that job prospects were so grim, that the only way for them (their family unit) to get a roof over their head is to get a council house.

Well if thats the only economic choice then thats the choice. If the money situation changes to an extent that they could afford to move out of council accomodation I'd be dissapointed if they didn't take the opportunity - again decent values would tell them that someone more needy should have that home. Also I'd like to think they'd want to choose where to live, not be placed somewhere.

Basically if they feel that they can openly talk to their parents about these (and other) subjects and not expect a massive conflict then mum and dad must have done something right over the years..

Justin
