My last two books were Brave New World (Aldus Huxley) and Interface (can't remember the author, and it's gone back to the library now ). The former was very disappointing as a 'classic', but I guess it just seems tame these days, and would have had more of an impact 40 years ago.

The latter was very interesting, but the ending wasn't so hot.

the Joe Simpson recommendations are spot on - particularly Touching the Void, and I recently read French Revolutions by Tim Moore about cycling the Tour de France route (much funnier and more interesting than it sounds).

Biographies have been my thing recently..

Try "Rat Pack Confidential" (not sure of the author), "Steve Mcqueen" by Marshall Terrill, "Killing Pablo" by Mark Bowden or "Ian Fleming" by Andrew Lycett. Cracking reads all of them..

Yep Jeremy Clarksons is good to dip into , also any Wibur Smith or John Grisham, or Clive Cussler if you want a bit of escapism. All light easy to read whilst keeping an eye on the activity around the pool.....I take it thats what blokes do on holiday !

If you like motorsport, there are two books by Sid Watkins that are pretty good and "Flat Out Flat Broke" by Perry McCarthy is excellent

Cad: Confessions of a toxic batchelor was amusing - kindof a get back on sex'n'the city.

Read Touching the void without stopping. Absolutely riveting, and I'm not interested in climbing (my bro is, and convinced me to read. It took a little persuasion),

Currently reading simulacra and simulation by Jean Beaudrillard. Not quite what I'd call light reading. No opinion yet.

"The Untouchable" by Gerald Seymour. Its a good read about a London Drugs Baron who tries to break into the Eastern European Market...good twist at the end.

For pure insight and about as close to the real thing .... Try "Layer Cake" by JJ Connolly.

Its as good as it gets.
