whale V shark....there is footage that often appears on the wildlife shows on satalite of akiller whale attacking and killing a great white.....very big fish!

A whale is a mammal.My money would be on the killer whale as they hunt in packs and are more intelligent/coordinated.I'm surprised they don't eat humans when they get the oppurtunity.

i can tell you from Personal experience that you'd need a very big boat to get one of these daddies in. There is a place in S Africa ( Gansbaai in the W Cape) where you can go down in a cage among the Great Whites a few miles offshore. They are so certain of them being there that they will give you your money back if you don't see one. Even allowing for the fact that everything looks 25% bigger underwater these aren't fish, they're bloody swimming artics with a shed load of teeth. The biggest one they caught there was a female of over 6.5m metres in length and 3.3 tonnes in weight. It's liver alone weighed over 500kg!

The bloke who took us out swims with them I assume he's been eaten by one by now, but he claimed that they're not interested in humans, they're really after seals, but occasionally one will mistake a human for a seal and have a nibble, which from a great white is all she wrote. Too late by the time it spits what's left out.

My parents paid for my bro to have a day as an assistant with the dolphin and killer whale team at Sea World in Orlando, Florida. He got to spend the day swimming with dolphins and appearing in the regular shows they put on.

None of them were allowed to swim with the killer whales as they are pretty dangerous. We found out that a couple of weeks before my bro went there, that one of the head guys got killed when practicing a trick with the killer whales. He sat on one and got it to swim around but one of its mates wanted to play so jumped out of the water and slammed onto his buddy. As you can imagine, several tonnes of whale made a nasty mess of a human - splat!

They are nowhere near the most dangerous animals. Theyve just been given a bad rep by various shark films. There are far more deadly insects and fish out there.

I think in the guiness book of records states the common mosquito as the most dangerous of all time based on the number of people that of died because of them.

Si you dont even dive so i think your safesharks arent as dangerous as the films make out if they were there would be 1000's of attacks every week think you only need to worry if you surf and then its not that bad, seen a shark when i was diving in the caymans was about 20ft from me and about 7ft long but the only time ive been worried was when i had a barracuda chase me that scared me as they do attack for nothing

I had a basking shark swim in to my 19 foot boat last week while I was sea fishing. It gave us a shock and it was considerably bigger than my boat. They only eat plankton though.

I don't have any, but my old japanese boss took loads as it was mainly arranged for his benefit. Not that he would get in the cage when Jaws arrived - he liked his fish raw, but dead and non threatening, he wasn't happy when a definitely non dead twenty foot long beastie turned up - he even retreated to the flying bridge ( "to get a better picture" Yeah right). You can't see very far in the water down there, even at sea level it's only about 30 ft, so when these things glide in out of the gloom and right up to the cage, it tests your back door pretty effectively.....

About a week after we were there, a baby white shark attacked a teenager standing in waist deep water on the Muizenberg Strand in False Bay (the beach south of Cape Town on the Indian Ocean side). The teenager and his uncle (displaying far more courage than I would have),grabbed it by its gill slits and dragged it onto the beach where they and the crowd mullered it until it let go of the boys thigh. Sharks are protected in SA so the Shark Protection Board hightailed it down there to protect the shark but arrived too late. The kid survived with a badly mangled thigh, but more importantly where was mummy. That was the last time I surfed on that beach....

I did some work for Investec a few years ago and ended up spending a few days in the Natal Sharks board

Every morning they send out a few boats to check all the shark nets around the Natal coast, I went with one of the boats one morning and you would not believe the size of the things that trying to swim to the beach.

We pulled in a 250m net and caught in that net were 4 great white all over 3 4 meters but there was 1 female that must have been 6.5 7 meters long it was huge.

The only way they could remove it from the net/water was for 1 of the guys to dive down and cut it from the net but do you think he repaired the whole ??

Investec in Durbs or in Sandton? Either way great company, hope you got shares back then.. Re the holy shark nets, it's even better if you get hold of some old photos of some of the Cape Town beaches from say 50-60 years ago ( Camps Bay, Llandudno etc)Shark nets everywhere. Now none . They rusted , got ripped by the big sharks and whales etc so they just don't bother any more. Natal (or should I say Mpumalanga) is just catching up .

The 1 in Sandton was my fav only because I'd stay in the Crown Plasa accross the road with the KLM flight girlies.

Sandton village is cool too but I don't know why everyone had such a problem with me walking there from the hotel ?

Yep, Sandton one is a great building, and good for the City. I used to stay in the Towers when I had my Japanese friends with me but in Rosebank at the Park Hyatt when on my own. Preferred Rosebank as fewer kugels, but also the old Rosebank hotel had it's share of air stewardesses as well - Cathay Pacific and Lufthansa and one of the world's great jukeboxes in the bar

I used to worry my SA colleagues as well by wandering around like you, but I guess we were lucky - it's a very quiet place most of the time, but if you're unlucky , you're usually very unlucky.

Haven't been there for two years now but at one stage I was down there for 7-10 days at a time every month for 8 years. I miss my shellfish platters from Vilamoura and the Ranch
