TOTB II - Was it worth it?
#34
Really enjoyed the day - some of the machinery on show and performing was awesome to say the least.
and
A big thanks to the Scooby boys who kindly donated a litre of oil to a very good cause (my mates motor had blown during the top speed event). None of the other clubs seemed willing to help us but as per usual the Scoob community were willing to help - Yet another reason for me feeling proud to own a Scoob and that this community is just brilliant.
Thanks again guys

Great day, and worth the trip and travel lodge business, but too hot if you ask me which probably slowed some of the turbo'd cars down, I don't know about you lot who entered but I wouldn't of been happy running my car in that heat.
Yeah the improvements required are: seating (mine feet felt er so flat!), handling times to be shown as they lap the track, and a better score board for the 1/4 mile too thats up to date, not to mention a top speed board for when they hit them, and an overall leaders board.
I was suporting the Pulsars but our final entries due to were reduced due to problems, and included cars that weren't really fully ready. We didn't do that well overall, best was a 11.9 run by Bruce Morris, which was fantastic but I personally think it will do better soon. As I said, the heat must of got to them. Bruce Spence's 500bhp+ DP Motorsport Red Pulsar had problems with his new clutch so it just slipped and bounced of the limiter in all gears so only a 12.3 I think, no doubt he'll be back soon. I didn't even see a Pulsar do the handling course?

Yes it did mate - we managed to get another litre from another group but the car was smoking real bad - you may have seen the trail of smoke behind the Rover 620TI as we pulled away (at the end)it was massive.
Car was later loaded on a wagon and we got home about 1am having left the airfield at just gone 6 :O
Anyway thanks again

How did John F do on the handling course?
Thanks to Steven i had 3 laps behind the wheel of his UK wagon and put in some respectable times, from memory about 1.5S behind AndyF and knocking 1 second off each lap, but we ran out of time to get the most out of the car, there was a lot more speed to come from the car, it's a great car with a superb engine.

no idea as of yet.
I wont be able to strip the engine for a week.
It's going to be either bad det or oil surge IMHO, but i need to find the reason rather than speculate.
Unfortunately the wire to my knocklink sensor broke, so i didnt get any indication of det, even if there were some. When its stripped down and analysed i'll let people know what i find.

Thanks for the sympathy, much apreciated. I have been away from home since TOTBII in Finland, so havnt looked into the cause of the failure yet, hopefully i'll get to start stripping the engine later this week.
I would like to get the oil and fuel analysed, if anyone has a contact who can do this for me please drop me a mail, it would be apreciated.
cheers

There is a name that springs to mind, but we wont go there!
Atol Racing Fuels may be able to do it, I know know of them as they do control fuel for the karting championships.
You might want to ask your friendly MSA scrutineer if they know of anyone.
