I agree with David, there's sooooooo much to come from that car

The only way I could have gone faster was by abusing the gearbox, I had a 200 mile drive home and no gearboxes left so I wasn't up for that The 127 mph terminal speed suggests low 11's are on the cards though

the speed limit on the way back is 30mph, which seems like eternity after just travlling at 160ish. Shame some people did not stick to it

 

yeah , some of those rovers were getting back to the front very quickly

It's a shame that's all, nobody likes being an also ran.

 

The thing is Tweenie - I know I didn't have my new engine - but it wasn't that I should have been there - I was there and I really enjoyed myself.

The highpoint for me was leaving the line at the same time as one of the 700bhp+ Skylines and beating him to the 1/8th - even with my apparently **** launches - even better we have it on video.

Not so good was when he changed into fourth and passed me like I was parked on his way to the line!

In terms of how Scoobs did, the top five were

Andy Forrest - 11.71
Michael White - 12.08 (IIRC) Legacy
Me - 12.49 (25th out of around Class C cars)
Steven - 12.50
Bob - 12.91 (IIRC - although there may be a quicker one)

Just to say, I really enjoyed it yesterday and I thought the Scoobs gave a good account of themselves actually.

Andy F's car was bloody quick.

That 400+bhp 4wd Audi engined Golf got rogered by P20SPD off the line. Don't know wheteher he managed to kepp it at bay for the full 1/4 though

As Mark A pointed out a lot of the cars there have £100k in them and aren't exactly daily drivers. If you are trailered to and from the event you can be as aggressive as you want with your set-offs whereas us people who live in the real world have to DRIVE home.

I wish in a way, we'd have had a splash of rain to even things out a bit from those HUGE horsepower cars and those bloody Vipers. Damn they were fast.

That Black Corvette ZR1 was a bit of a beast too.

I was really impressed too with Michael White's Legacy. What a sleeper that is!

Maybe next year the Scoobs will really clean up.

Chris S, FWD quarter and handling were won by Andy Nichols in the Maestro (12.4 I think), top speed was Sunny Khalsa at 169 mph in a Fiesta!!!! I think he also did a 13.0 qtr mile and Paul Ripley did 12.9. Which car was your mates?

Back on topic, look at things in oerspective. The even is 10 of the best, the aim being to get the TEN BEST cars from each club and race them against each other to find the best of the best. A few weeks ago, I was at the test day at Elvington, Andy F won the qtr that day and also the Handling, with John F second I think.

Yesterday, the goal posts were moved in a big way on the qtr mile, 9.95 secs What would it take to get a Scoob / Evo / anything to do that, and 190+ mph in 1.2 miles? That takes huge power, and as we all know huge power = huge cash if you want it to last. When you look at the standard of competition, it's a huge achievement just to be at the event (my car wouldn't get close to qualifying!) and anybody making the top 10 on any event deserves some credit IMO.

That's the bad thing about this kind of day. They should let people stand up at the finish (I suppose that would be a bit dangerous though with terminals of up to 150mph!!!)

Should have a video screen set up or something so we can see who crosses the line first. They'd probably have to charge £30 per head for that though.

Let's get a sense of perspective here...

Top gear last night on their "best of..." showed a nitrous'd jag anihilating a 360, Porsche Turbo (not sure if it was a GT3 or anything like that) and other exotica up the quarter mile.

The best time on the show? 13 seconds...

Steven and Trout (David) both are running standard engines and are using the cars as daily drivers. The only "non-daily" is Mr Wallis', and that was still being mapped yesterday morning and afternoon. That wasn't due to a lack of preparation, just things not quite working out how they should.

The sight of the day for me was Steven annihilating a Viper. That truly shows how fast these cars really are.

If people want to carp on about not being fast enough, you put your ***** on the blocks and do better with your money. I was utterly impressed.

Admittedly, it would be very nice to be up there with the likes of Ronnie, but **** me is that one rapid car . Subaru tuning is really taking off now, it wasn't long ago that 350bhp was considered huge... It'll get better

Though I did take a fellow scoobynetter (who was over in Jersey) out for a quick spin on saturday, and he seemed very impressed

sorry been out most of the day...

...I think you might be mixing 'bogging' with the attitude of the car. Andy is running hard suspension and has low weight - excellent for 1/4 - so his car stays relatively flat. My car has standard suspension and the back sinks down significantly as it bites on the line. It is also at least 150kg heavier.

It may not look lovely - but the real measure of the quality of the start is the 60ft time - i.e. how quickly you get off the line. I'll let the numbers speak for themselves...

Most the other cars were doing 1.8-2.5s.

All I can say is that you must have stunning eyes to be able to see the difference of a couple of hundrenths of a second. I have not personally witnessed a Scoob do under 1.6s - but I look forward to seeing you demonstrate it for us.
