What happened to the Scoobs at TOTBII ??

If you're organising it again, then stick me down as a handling reserve for next year - can't promise my engine will be any faster then but the handlings none too bad
Missed out this year, just wasn't going to be possible for me. I also thought that there were enough guys to enter - but I don't read 22b.com as much as I should prehaps.
Well done those that entered

David, I don't remember ever taking the pi$$ out of you or ever wanting to. You did a fantastic job getting your car running. I can only think of admiration seriously!
John, I hear what you are saying, as I say no insult to the 22b organisers (it is obvious how difficult it was), more a reflection on the lack of Subarus in the UK to compete in this sort of event, otherwise there would have been a brim full main and reserve list with cars with proven results. The only thing we came close to was handling, which is only a 1/3 of the event. There is no way we will get anywhere near success in the other events unless things change (ie cars like yours and Andy's with drivers as good as you and Andy, as well as far more power)?

/Flame retardant suit well and truely zipped up
all this slabberin about this not being ready, that not being ready, is a load of crap. there was a year between the last event and this one. you all knew it was coming up and had plenty of time so why was it so hard to put a dozen or so cars together. if the event was run like last year i.e separate classes for sccobs, skylines etc, in other words 10 classes like it says in the title, it would have been much clearer who you where up against. in a 4wd group, scoobs where never gonna be up there. there is no way and i dont mean to disrespect anyones scoob on here, that anyone was going to keep up with skylines or evos that have had the cost of my house put into their engines.
having said that i throughly enjoyed myself. met mark, bob, john f and a few others. went out into york on sunday night had a nice meal and one too many beers and had a good laff talking about the day. super petrolhead weekend with friends and likeminded people.
you now all have a year to get your cars ready again. maybe if the event moves back to its original format we will have a better day. oh and it needs to be cold and foggy as well.
Glad i have that off my chest.
cheers
big sinky

You could say that the people that did go did not just talk the talk.
At present it is difficult to pull together even 10 proven 350 BHP Scoobies with sorted handling.
Yet everyone in the pub now has 350 BHP (320 BHP last year )

Some people are so full of sh*t.
The TOTB entry was open to ANYONE to apply, and we still struggled !!!
Some people don't have a clue how much time, money, and effort is involved in preparing a car that can compete in these events, and be competitive.
Then, after having put the time, money, and effort into the car, you have to be prepared for the thing to destroy it self.
The Project X car cost in eccess of £100,000, and lunched it self in testing, the Norris EVO had cost over £70,000, before it first lunched it's engine towing a caravan, and then AGAIN (allegedly) on the dyno a few weeks ago.
I reckon that at least 10% of the cars had to be towed, or flat bedded away.
So, just how many of you are prepared to put your time, money, and effort, where your mouths are, and put your names down for next year ???? Come on, you've got 1 YEARS notice.....
Mark.

Do you think a year should be long enough to get ready Mark
I do however agree with Mark Even if we did pile the money in, when you're pushing the limits then failures will occur.
Even F1 where individual components are all 'lifed' and expense is not a limitation, they still sometimes have 50% or more fail to make the end of the race.
How can we expect better reliability when we are just 'playing' at it ?
Andy
I know Paul, it's just that mental illness I have which makes me want to wind people up

I personally was very happy with my performance for the day, i had countless people talking to me, saying they could not believe i was getting 12.5s and 118mph terminals.
All i wanted out of Sunday was to reach 12.5, a target i set myself in March after watching Harvey at Elvington, where he repeatedly got 12.4 to 12.6, with one run at 12.28 IIRC.
I achieved that, and my car stood up to the test well, in fact it went beyond my expectations.
On the handling circuit i was chuffed to bits watching John chuck it round, really good feeling, especially as each run his times were dropping by just over 1 second. Shame we did not have more time on the day (me too determined to beat Trout in our private battle on the strip)
I am sorry if i dissapointed anyone from a spectators point of view, but having just had the car off the road for 4 weeks, i did not want it to happen again, i stood by my word when i put my name down as a reserve, and agreed to run when i was called up.
My car is my every day work horse, covering between 500 and 700 miles a week.
However, you have to move on in this game (you get slagged off even more if you dont), so things may change, as i have set myself a new target, i need the money and the hardware to do it 1st!

Disclaimer form req'd for next TOTB to please the spectators.
I undertake to the following -
1 - Full rpm limit launches by sidestepping the clutch
2 - Snatching gears hard during powershifting
3 - 500+ BHP proven on at least 2 bench dyno's and 5 rolling roads
4 - To have a minimum of 2 'T' cars available to the same spec in event of mechanical failure.
5 - Withdrawing from the event incurs a £100,000 fine.
Feel free to add points as necessary

LOL @ Andy.
P20, indeed that is how I meant it
You/JohnF/your car was impressive as you:
1. turned up
2. competed in all events
3. did the car and yourself proud
4. had reliability

What's the point in doing a standing 1/4 if you aren't going to try and get the best possible time? If you are not confident the car can take it then why do it in the first place?
I did a 13.6 at santa pod on a standard STI3 (except for the clutch) and i did ****** each gear and side step the clutch on the launch etc.... They are cars, not the bl00dy crown jewels.

You can get away with that a few times but if you do a lot of events you will get broken bits, unless you have an uprated box (which not all of us have)

When you spend (on average) as much again if not more on engine/drivetrain assuming the car was £20k plus at least I would asssume you may be a little apprehensive of tearing the nuts out of it, on one of the grippiest surfaces around, on one of the hottest days of the year.

Havent heard that one before
My car WAS there. I drove it all the way from Belfast. As I have said in another thread TOTB was a spur of the moment thing. i only booked tickets, boat and guest house last monday. i came with michael white and while not entered (i have been reliably informed that it is a closed event anyway) my car was used to dump all the luggage, tools, crap etc for 4 other ppls on the day (just to keep the weight down in the two cars we brought over). i have no illusions i would have got smoked big time had my car been entered. but then again.......there is always next year if someone else drops out
cheers

I have an idea
OK - listen up...
...I want everyone on Scoobynet to send me a fiver before the end of the month.
I also want five volunteers to work full time over the three months of the summer next year. They must cover the key disciplines of car set-up - engine, ECU, handling, shell, fuel, etc. They must have experience of setting up nine second cars.
I need another volunteer with a lorry - to take the car to the circuit - and a full trackside service facility with spare gearboxes, driveshafts, diffs etc.
If all these prequisites are achieved - then I COMMIT on behalf of Scoobynet to buy a Rigoli car and even hire Dominic Rigoli to drive it for us.
Then I am confident that we 'may' get a top five finish
Rannoch
PS Andy...very funny...spot on

Difficult to tell with all the stickers who was private/commercial, probably a lot of it was blurred anyway, but presumably the kudos from good results helps their business no end?
So do you have to be a big tuning house or ludicrously rich to prepare a competitive car for TOTB? Otherwise, the costs would outweigh the gains?

John,
Ask the question the other way around...
...how many of the top ten cars were not big budget items?
How many of the overall winners cost less than £100,000?
It's just the way it is I guess - but it won't stop me from wanting to do it again - nor should it you

Agree with David
Even with the money behind you, you can still have the slowest start of the day, just ask Mr Norris
WE should not have to spend £1000's just to beat Skylines for the privilige of those with not so powerful scoobs to be able to say to his mate in the pub "a scoob can beat a skyline, easy"
We spend our money so WE have fun and enjoyment (different for everyone) out of our own cars.

There is a 9 second scoob over here in Australia and it isn't finished yet.
It's a right stealthy beast too.....looks just like my old MY94 WRX.
Well done to the entrants for talking the talk and walking the walk.
You did us proud.

I havent had a scoob for over two years now, but i still follow this bbs and the scene in general. Circumstances meant that i could not make it to TOTB but having read the reports and followed the preperation of cars Like David W's on here beforehand i think all those who took part and helped out did exceptionally well, full credit to them for competing and "walking the walk" so to say.
Some of the budgets/figures i've heard mentioned for the skylines/certain Evo's are astronomical and way beyond the budget of a home garage tuner or even those who have a lot of professional work done on their cars! Maybe the scoobs didnt win totb or the heats but this is scoobynet, it'd be nice if all those on here supported the few who did actually make the effort to put up a show for the scoobs!
Best of luck to those who had problems on the day, hope you arnet off the road/strip for too long
