We were just talking about this in work yesterday, we decided by an 90% majority that we should be allowed to wear shorts (one of the girls even said she would wear shorts).
Our office doesn't even have air con !!![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)

The Md didn't wear a tie yesterday and allowed it to be known that he didn't expect anyone else to while the weather is warm.
Just as well really cos I forgot my tie.
I have in the past held my own "unofficial" dress down by leaving my tie in my pocket, but I usually get told off after a week or so.

I work for Midlands Electricity as a “Live Line Underground Cable Jointer”. We have a uniform which is a red polo shirt with dark blue combat style trousers. When on site we have to ware long sleeved Hi-Viz vest, hard hat and steel toe caped boots. When jointing live we have to ware fire retardant overalls (which are very heavy and thick), rubber inner insulating gloves with leather outer gloves and a full face blast visor (bomb squad style).
So in total when I am down a hole jointing live hears what ill be wearing-
All that lot in 85 degree heat its bloody murder.

Wear what I want most of the time - hot or cold. For me thats usually jeans, trainers & a stripey shirt. Tidier for important meetings maybe but let it be known (always have for last 15 yrs) thats what I'll wear...
Any "tightening" of dress code usually loosens after a short while

There's more places like that than you would think - especially in the City. Mr Gee's description is very similar to the dress code for Coutts. When I worked there years ago, blokes could only wear dark suits, mainly white shirts (had to have white collar) - no button down collar, no loud ties, black waistcost and frockcoat to be worn during business hours. This was even enforced in the international banking office (where I worked) and we didn't even see the customers. I moved into IT at Coutts and it all changed - much more relaxed thank god.

Chris, yes, mentioning it to a friend last night, he also said Coutts were stiff as you like regarding work wear. In fact, in addition to the things you listed, he went on to say that blokes who were prone to a bit of beard stubble by lunchtime had to go to the bathrooms for a midday shave! Now *that's* what i call pedantic!

Yeah - forgot to mention that
No beards! Remember working with a guy who had the biggest lamb chop sideburns I'd ever seen. Technically they weren't a beard, but he had some right battles with the 'management'
He won BTW ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

No dress code at all here. Well unless we have visitors, or are on site, but even then, I visit clients and they are in shorts and t-shirts, and I'm looking like a pleb in trousers and a shirt.
Oh and yes, I have worn both of those shirts to work before. Nixs' eyes are still bloodshot from those days
lol ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I can understand if you're totally customer facing that you should look smart, however, if you are in an office block and only see co-workers I don't see why you should have to look that smart. I'm not a utlra slob type dresser, well used to be, but that changed, but even still, I like to be comfortable at work.

Strict dress code here, we are supposed to wear a suit every day and can't take our ties off...
.. needless to say, I'm wearing light weight (coton, no denim) jeans, and a polo t-shirt.... do this every day as I *might* have to work in the computer room each day...

I'm quite lucky in that I can wear what I like.....
As long as its woolen trousers.
Oh yeah, a shirt too.
Can't forget the stab proof vest.
And a chequer cap.
Nice uncomfortable boots.
14lbs of crap on a utility belt.
And I get to shave every day.
I have such a good job!

No dress code here, so I'm 'making do' with three quarter lengths, a polo shirt and trainers! ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
I have to go to the Group office tomorrow in Chelsea, so I guess I should be a little smarter than normal!
