Bugeye is heavier but remember that includes a full roll cage built in. Up to you if you feel you need it.
The older the car, the more likely it is out of warranty, the less you are limited to buying the PPP and spending the same money on unapproved ways of getting many more horses. Suggests the Classic is more tuneable for the same money (suggests).
Not sure which has lost more in depreciation by now, or will lose more while you own it.
Bugeye less likely to give you a Kevin image.
Classic was criticised for brakes and headlamps, not sure about bugeye.

Certainly is Garage did a fantastic job with the paint finish. Very impressed and it's good to have the Scoob back after spending 3 weeks of hell in a Mazda 626

Sorry, this is not very helpfull, but 95% of the guy's with "money" all drive classics on this board.
Hope I have understood that correctly
I cant see how running a standard classic or a standard fugly is going to be different in cost unlest you are buying them out right and not paying it monthly.

Lets face it, if you look at Subaru's evolution (pardon the phrase) as a Sine Wave, then the Classic could be seen as a "peak" and the bugeye as a "trough". It would appear that the blobeye as rising to another peak too.
Conclusive or what?

Ive just sold my 2002 sti with PPP and put a deposit on a 1997 sti3 with a front mount. Hope i havent made a tragic mistake. Just felt the bug eye felt a bit too refined.

Hi, thought no better place to kick off my posting than this thread HEHE (although I have been lurking for months).
I bought one of the last MY02's, the so called 'bargain bugeyes'.
First I have to strongly backup what ChrisL said about them getting better with milage. Mine feels MUCH faster now than at 2000 miles, and iv still only got 5500 miles on the clock.
The reason I went for the last MY02 was because the price for the UK one was dropped to £18995 from £21450. An import for me was out of the question, Im 28 and not rich by any standards I could not afford big repair bills if anything went wrong and just couldnt risk warrenty been duff. Also, as they were wanting to clear stock for the new model I was offered 6k for my trade in car (97 Golf GTi) when all other places went to a max of 4k, no more. I couldnt be arsed with private selling.
Now, I knew the MY03 was going to be around £20000, they had one there when I was looking, and I compared them for looks. Very personal thing looks, but I found they traded blows, none really winning (MY03 front lights better, rear ones MUCH worse - I hate the scoop on the 03 and the bonnet looks 'bulbous' - All IMHO of course, its still a great car). Saw the morette lights, and thought 'hmmm, turns possibly the worst looking Impreza to IMHO the best.
So, 1k less than 03 and 2k more for my car, I can (just about) afford a new Impreza !!.
Ok I realize this pretty little story doesnt help you much, So some thoughts on the bugeye:-
Its not as slow as people make out, especially when run in.
Ive dusted Mini Cooper S's, Saxo VTS's, MGF's on duel carrageways - No these arnt the quickest cars about, but I trumped these very easily, so should be at least a match for bigger guns.
The morettes make them look better IMHO than any other Impreza, obviously this doesn't include P1's, 22b's.
Very Tuneable, if it doesnt have enough power for YOU, go get ECUTEK, if its still not enough, dont buy an Impreza in the first place.
The classic IS a fantastic car, but to me starting to look dated - BUT i can understand people loving them, there will ALWAYS be a place in my heart for Astra GTE 16V's no matter how bad they look now (had an F reg one when I was 18, it was FAST at the time and i cherrished it).
TBH i dont think you can make the 'wrong' choice, you'll be happy whichever you get.

I'm selling my MY99 Blue UK Turbo in the next month. It's totally standard, has been supplied and serviced by Carstins in Coventry from new, has just had major 60k service(although 50k on the clock)and MOT done with new tyres put on and i extended the warranty til August next year(last year). What do you reckon i'll get for it?
I would love to stay true to Subaru but it's the Classic or nothing for me i'm afraid.

OK i know I will get flamed for this but sod it
Buy what ever one you like the best, everyone has a differing opinion and I gotta say gettin a bit confrontational about it too LOL
I own a bugeye and know its not the pinacle of all scoobs but its mine and hey I love it,and IMHO looks superb. I think the classics are the dogs danglies especially the Type R's and STi's.
Get down to a scoob meet and look at all the models side by side and you choose what one is for you.

There is only one choice in my mind, an STI WRX V5 type r!!
£15 grand buys you 300+ Bhp, handling and performance already thrown in, spend a bit of time on some mods and you have a supercar in the classic rally shape.
careful with the high mileage ones, and get it serviced regularly and will offer you a great fun car thast people wave at when you coast around!!
i have never had so much fun
