I don't think MarkO does believe that ALL crop circles are done by humans but we know that most are due to evidence to support this. What MarkO is saying is that if they are created by something other than humans please provide some evidence of what else causes them. There is a difference

Got it in one, STI-W-S, both in terms of that last post, and the 'why would people bother' one. Lots of people do lots of odd things that take time, effort and stealth, and don't necessarily make sense. Take a look at some of the threads in 'Muppets' and then ask yourself why people would spend so much time, effort and resources posting there.
Why should circle-makers be any different? ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
And tiggers, I'm not being antagonistic (well, not intentionally, anyway
), I'm merely asking if you can produce some evidence about your theories, rather than just listening to your wild, baseless speculation. After all, there's always the possibility that I might learn something too....!!! ![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)

compliment? i leave that for you to judge.
i'd say, being someone who has a passing interest in this phenomena only, that they are for the most part, man-made. that much is obvious.
there have been some interesting posts here citing some out-of-the-ordinary evidence - or the possibility of such - with regard to some of them. if such evidence has a basis in fact and has been conducted with stringent and self-critical scientific analysis, then we cannot reliably assert that man necessarily makes every crop circle.
personally, for the proportion of circles that seem to demonstrate non-human intervention - or at least something more complex at work than bored students with a pole and length of string - i'd go for something natural along the lines of freak weather conditions. mini-tornado, ball lightning, concentrated ultra high air pressure anomalies, whatever. but i'm no meteorologist, just open-minded.
we do not yet know everything about this planet works: if you saw horizon last night on BBC2, you would have seen how marine science got it wrong about the common existence of 30 metre plus waves, a phenomenon they categorically stated could only occur once every 10,000 years, rubbishing the eye-witness claims of experienced mariners. but one which nevertheless was for years responsible for the 'inexplicable' sinking of at least one cargo vessel a week. until one incident with an oil rig in 1995 made them start thinking about waves at sea in quantum terms as well as linear terms.
advances in science at any given time are not a panacea (as some people sometimes seem to think): they are simply one rung further up on the ladder of knowledge. which for me means follow common sense and accepted wisdom - but keep an open mind to that which may change it.

MarkO,
As we discovered yesterday you have contempt for me so why should I waste my time on trying to educate you even if that were possible. Yes, you can take that last part of the statement two ways - I shall leave it up to you to decide which way![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

Crop circles have been reported for centuries and maybe the best evidence that they are not all man made is some which were reported and photographed in the reeds in a large lake in USA in the 80's (many more of these 'lake circles' have also been reported)
Anyone who has thoroughly researched this subject will soon realise that they are NOT all the work of humans (and also little do with visitors from mars / Zeta Reticuli etc). As stated in my last post I firmly believe that there is natural phenomon causing the genuine circles.

Holy ghost: I'd seen the 'monster waves' Horizon when it first was shown - fascinating stuff, and as you say proof that we are clueless about a lot of stuff that goes on around us on this lump of rock. ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Tiggers:
LOL. I don't have contempt for you. From your posts on SN you seem an interesting, well-adjusted and intelligent person. The only reason I have contempt for any religious person is that I'm a full-blown atheist, so it's part of my duties.
You don't need to educate me at all. I'm perfectly well-educated.
But just don't expect to be taken seriously if you propose ideas but then have nothing better to back them up with than "Well, they look too complex to be made by people, and why would people bother anyway?".

you'll like this: google tells me that the earliest recorded crop circle was from 1647 in england, drawn in a wood carving of the time.
perhaps a case of too much meade for ye olde studentum marko?

Telboy, why not review this thread? If you read through my posts, I mention several times that most crop circles are made by people, and that a few of the less complex and geometrical ones are probably caused by odd weather, such as tornados, etc. ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
And so what if there were crop circles in 1647? People have played jokes and committed hoaxes for hundreds of years...
