Passed second time...like all the best ones.

Didn't stop me driving into a wall a month later though. Took a roundabout too fast in my Mum's Volvo 440, & lost the back end.

Says it all really. People can't really drive until they've been going a good while. Advanced driving test (or some such thing) should be compulsary after perhaps 6 months - not that I've done one, but it'd be a good idea to have some further training. I did a spot of 'further training' on an old airfield.... It had a good dirt course as well...

Passed 1st time six weeks after my 17th birthday.

Had 12 lessons in the six weeks plus a half hour before my test.

I did have an old banger to practice in for the six weeks though.

I had to take the theory twice because by the time i got round to taking my test the second time, it had expired!!

I took the hazard perception test this time and it was a total waste of time. All you have to do is click the mouse alot and it passes you.

Second time.

My first test was a right laugh. Had a lesson before the test, but my instructor was late due to picking his kids up from school so we were in a hurry to make the test centre. I was driving and he told me to take a left at some lights. There was a full on tractor-trailer unit waiting to turn right and the right turn was almost a hairpin so he was going to have to swing out to make the turn.

I stopped well back from him for this reason, but my instructor badgered me into pulling alongside him despite my protestations. Sure enough the truck got a filter arrow and having not seen me took the side off my instructor's Fiesta. I decided that in the circumstances 'I told you so' was not the best thing to say as my instructor was going ballistic at the truck driver who was having none of it.

Anyway we limped to the test centre and taped the nearside miroor to what was left of the driver's door and hoped for the best. The examiner let me take the test after a lengthy eximination of the car, but despite the fact I drove a pretty good test he failed me for reversing round a corner (even though I'm sure it was OK).

I was so hacked off that I put in for a re-test straight away and refused to have any more lessons. Took the test in a mate's car having done no driving for six weeks and despite the fact that I drove IMHO pretty poorly I passed. I was so surprised I nearly asked the examinder if he was sure

Regards,

tiggers.

Cool

Old Morris Minor van + field to practice in = FAILED test

Same van, more dents, + larger field = FAILED again

One lesson + roads = PASS.

Still remember it with examiner holding rolled newspaper like fly swot waiting for the emergency stop bit - do they still have that??

PS. Waiting for PSL to post saying they didn't have tests in his days

2 lessons and pass first time.

1st lesson,
Instructor commented you seem to have the hang of it but I'd like to see you use your mirrors more

who gives a **** what's behind you!!

2nd lesson,
I see you're using mirrors now... I'll put you in for your test.

Exam,
One question I ballsed up was, not knowing how to tell a 30 zone. (I said built up area, but forgot to add street lighting :rolleyes)
examiner also noted that on "a couple of occasions" I exeeded the speed limit"
but it was noted that I was "keeping up with the flow of traffic".

That was that really.... EASY

is it true in India or africa or somewhere like that, if you can drive forward 6 feet and reverse back 6 feet you have passed your driving test.

heard that and wondered if it was true?

oh btw first time after 2 lessons.

cheers

first time after 2 lessons
Please expand sinky. I know there's a lot of out-doing going on here about how few lessons everybody needed, but there has to be more to the above?

Theory first time 100%, practical first time no minor faults.

Three months later wrote off parent's car in style.........it was going to be my birthday present, it was not to be.
