Bravo - glad you got it back and in one piece!! and a real bonus that they caught the thief.
please learn from this and do something to protect the bike so that this cannot happen again - not as easy to protect as a car i guess

It is good news, great the Police caught this sod.
I will be interested to see what the courts 'punish' him (scum-thief) with, Hopefully B20 will keep us informed. I for one will be interested to see what is dished out.

"they" will get what they deserve if B2Z (excellent shorthand name for him, whoever thougt of that ) decided to MAKE them pay.
I'm more than certain there are people who read this forum every day who would be willing to oblige, no links to B2Z at all....
But I'm not one of them. Sorry, sometimes wish I was so I could help, as a fellow biker

Nice one mate.
That other one he knicked was probably the one he knicked from around the corner from where I work (Fleet Street).
He'll probably get half and hour of community service and a free holiday to Tenerife, though
Lucky he didn't fall off your bike as you'd be liable for a law suit against you.
I know, cynical

Yamaha head office now involved with the secuirty issues and going to work with the police who recovered my bike on how the thieves managed to start my bike with the original ignition barrel still in tact and not hot wiring it! I.E. a magic key and where it came from and to see if the police recovered it!
Also they have assured me they will get the dealership I take it to to "look after me" regarding the repairs to my bike as I can't afford to go through the insurance! Not quite sure what they mean by that but hopefully its good

Superb news Can't see why it would be trashed, it's almost brand new. Any bits missing can be replaced with new parts. Sorted
Just got to find a more concealed parking spot now.
Also I presume you're insurance can be sorted out now too? Hope so.

Well folks just got home from the police station
First of all the damage to the bike before the true story of what really happened.
The front right brake disc is damaged where they took the disc lock off.
The ignition is shagged. The alarm and immobiliser are not working so remains to be see what they have done to it.
The handle bars/yoke are damaged around the ignition where they have prized something on it.
Now for the amazing bit! The gang got round the immobilser because (ALLEGEDLY) Yamaha have keys that will start any R6 or R1. These are either stolen or sold by dodgy dealers to the black market for £1000 a piece. These keys over ride the immobiliser but not the alarm so they just disconnect the alarm. Then the bike is rideable as though they have the key fot the bike
Now for how they caught the thieving **** and what happened.
A GSXR was recovered yesterday. So today plain clothed coppers went to the same area and parked up and waited and waited. Then low and behold who drives past? Some bloke on my R1! They wait for him to park the bike then they make their move, He scarpered big time. He is 6'2 and 19 stone and when they caught up with him he put up a fight and quite a skirmish followed. He then got taken to the police station.
He was injured in the scuffle and the police said it was from him trying to get over a barbed wire fence, he is claiming they gave him a good kicking. I really hope they gave him a good kicking What ever happened he has some nasty cuts/wholes in his arms plus some bruises Sounds pretty painful from what the police told me, I told them good and tell him from me I hope they hurt like ****
Anyway they have taken my statement and are trying to have him done for the theft and just not possesion, plus assaulting a police officer and tresspassing on a railway. They are trying to do him for everything they can
I have told them there is no issue about me going to court, I WANT TO! I will be taken by the police under guard etc to the court and be present during his hearing
Now obviously as already mentioned, I wouldn't mind some moral support from thoose bikers or anyone really who feel they would like to attend the court hearing
In addition to this while I was waiting to be seen, one of his mates was waiting outside. He followed me out for a ciggie and said ur the bloke with the R1 arnt you. I was like yep, who are you? He said he is his mate and is well fooked off with him for what he has done and that the guys dad is gonna batter him when he gets bail. He said he didn't nick the bike and was just riding it as he knew the blokes who did nick it. Anyway we had a chat and I was very suspicious of what he was saying. I told the old bill and they were like yeah right, what a load of bollox.
Anyway when I left his mate was still outside. He tells me that the guys dad had phoned and wanted to speak to me and offer to pay for the damages and would I like his number to contact. I said no thanks as I dont want direct contact with him, but he can leave his details with the police and it can be sorted out that way. He was like oh ok then.
I was thinking it was more a case of the fact this friend is one of the gang who was in the van and that they were trying to get my contact details. They can **** off with that effort!
Should be allowed to have the bike back tomorrow as its being finger printed tomorrow. CID have called up and want to be involved and they are trying to get as much **** on this **** as possible. Good luck to em I say, I hope they **** him over big stylee
I'm off for an ice cold beer now as I can't think of any thing else to say at the moment except i'm gasping!
Will obviously post updates for those interested when I know more.
Thanks for all the replies guys, lets hope we get one less scum bag off the street!
Beer time.......
Obviously
