Yep you still need GP referral for private treatment. Although if you can afford private healthcare then you would probably go and see a private GP too!

PMI is generally the realm of the wealthy so it won't help the poor people / those on benefits - although it would take some strain off the NHS. However Labour abolished tax relief on PMI for the over 60's years ago, effectively increasing premiums by 30%, [result] more over 60's in the NHS (ie the higher risk patients).

Thankfully I have PMI through work but if I didnt work for them I definitely wouldnt buy it as it aint cheap!
