If a friend suggests it, think twice, or thrice before considering it. Personally, if a friend said it when sober, then maybe, but if booze is involved, forget it. I'd rather walk around with a loaded gun than mess up a good friendship.
...plus... I don't believe the second part for a second*! Well unless you're gay which you have stated you are not. If a female friend (please see below for terms and conditions) was to come on to a bloke offering sex then I don't know any single male (or many in a relationship) who would knock it back. In an ideal world we would say no thank you and proceed to real off something akin to one of your typical threads on the subject (no offence intended
). In reality the little head takes over and all that PC, new man, equality cr@p goes out of the window because you are going to get a sh@g!*this is providing the female friend is somewhat attractive, which in the case of most men and female friends is the case as normally the primary reason you are friends is that you have not yet sh@gged them.

As a matter of interest, and a moral issue I have raised with myself on more than one occasion, I went through a phase of picking up 'casual intimate liasonos' with girls who had just been dumped from great heights. It was about three or four in like 6 months. Two for sure went back to there respective formers, one became slightly sad and hung around like yesterdays kippers. So speaking as the revenge shaggee I did question my morals at the time and thought 'no problems'

Look, if you've come out of a long term relationship (and you were actually upset by it) then usually your mind isn't on starting another one straight off. Does'nt mean you can't have sex though if the oppertunity arose. However there will be a point where you're over it and want another go. However its not as if you're going to meet that ideal person straight away but **** it who cares - if you fancy them just have sex with them. So what if ultimately the relationship isn't ideal, go out, enjoy yourself get some experience of other people!!
'He/she's alright, fancyable but not EXACTLY what I'm looking for' so whats the options? just go out with them and enjoy it, have fun for a bit and keep your options open - guess what? thats maybe all they want too! its better than staying in with your BBS and playstation on a Saturday night.
Life is too short to purposely stay single waiting for that special person. FFS if you do meet that special person but for (say) 5 years have been doing **** all else, you may actually spurt out a load of ideallistic hypothetical relationship scenario bollocks that will make them run a mile thinking 'what the **** have they been doing, they haven't a clue'
Personally I say enjoy yourself whilst waiting for that special person, worked for me

IMO some of Markus's comments are a bit Claire Raynor and to me does'nt sound like he's 'been there and done that' too often. Please correct me Markus if I'm wrong. Sorry Markus but to me thats how you come across on this thread, however thats my opinion and I'm happy to read yours.
I also don't get the internet shark gag either. I know its all in jest but the joke wears a bit thin...bit like the ice in SIAL Especially if it's in stark contrast to your real world character.

I have quite a lot of female friends, most of whom can be found on this here bbs, and I can say with 100 percent certainty that I've not had sex with any of them, nor is the remote possibily of having sex with them the reason I am friends with them. I know the little head does take over in some cases, but the way I am, means that I would think about the consequences of sleeping with a friend and ruining the friendship, than just releasing any pent up sexual frustration.

In answer to the first post, for me, seeing other people and yes, having casual sex, has helped me through a recent break up. As long as the other person involved knows you want nothing serious then I see no wrong in it. It got my mind of my ex when things were the toughest for me (first two weeks or so). Now I'm the stage (4-5 weeks) where I actually want some time to myself and enjoy being on my own!
Of course this doesn't mean that it's for everyone.
