I am so not PC, but neither am I an all out racist bigot. I take as I find - if you are OK with me then I will reciprocate. Times have changed though and not necessarily for the better. I still believe in the saying "When in Rome........."

I remember a few years ago when my gran was still alive, I took her shopping for a new pair of shoes. When the assistant asked what colour she would like "****** brown" was the reply. How embarassing, but at the same time amusing. She really had no idea that the word was now considered inappropriate.

In that case, calling our old cat "Little Black Sambo" was a bit of a mistake then. And when I call our present one "Blackar5se" that may well be even worse!

The "Thought Police" will come and get me I imagine!

did anyone else see that crap on the news this morning about the "mixed race" lady who had her foot amputated?

The hospital offered her a white prosthetic, and now she is "saddened and upset, shocked and devestated" etc etc. at their "racism" (read "lack of producing a cheque big enough to make her go away rather than straight to the media." )

I can't help but think that if a hospital worker offered a white amputee a black foot prosthetic there wouldn't be all this ranting or the patient would be pilloried for being a racist, and suggesting that the black foot wasn't good enough for them etc. etc - the PC brigade would be up in arms at the patient, demanding that we all chop off one foot and have a black one fitted to show solidarity of the hiuman race etc etc..

But a white one wasn't good enough for this bint, and we are all supposed to feel sorry for her...

So from now on expect the NHS to pay all the hospitals to have a RAL colour chart, and infinite shades of plastic bits and pieces..

MADNESS!

Buzz, you on the wind up? I think it was totally insensitive to offer her a white limb. She's just had a leg amputated. A bit of thought would have been the order of the day IMHO.

Sort of, yes .... however...

Insensitive, yes, but I can only see one reason why she would "go to the media" about this - CASH £££!

When two of these do-gooders were asked this morning on the TV "isn't it a GOOD thing that the hospital were "blind" to her colour and treated her the same as everyone else?", which I had always assumed was their argument, that flummoxed them for a while but they soon worked it back to "it's still a racist slur" etc etc.

I have to add that I have never been accused of racism, I have a number of black/coloured/ethnic ( call them what you want, to me they are just people) friends but I strongly object to all these "organisations" that perpetuate these divides in society for their own ends.

Sorry for the ramble

The woman in question has not had her leg amputated. She will not have the op until the NHS agree to give her a new leg that is a colour that she approves of.

As for being PC did you see the two Dark brown skinned ppl on BBC1 this morning at 7.30. They were ranting on about how blacks must have this and that without a mention of say Chinese, Mexican, Tibetan people etc. It had to be black. They even said they were going to try to make the education system more PC.
When asked how hw would do that he said by having O levels in Hip-Hop. He said this would allow black kids the chance to achieve passes in their exams. Tosser.

Whether you like it or not, nearly everyone has become more politically correct in their views over the years. Take the racism issue for instance. Does anyone remember TV progs like Love Thy Neighbour? The humour in that would make even a hardened **** blush today and yet at the time it was more than acceptable. Likewise certain episodes of Till Death us do Part, would not now be able to be shown for the same reason.
Subtle changes take place without people realising. I think people in the main on here are against the lack of subtlety and positive discrimination....which I would support.

I saw the African-American-Afro-Caribbean-mixed-race lady on BBC 1 this morning. She can't buy shampoo appropriate to her hair type because of evil racists such as me.

"****** latte"
Maybe we're on a different wave length, but I didn't see anyone use the word ****** in this thread before.

I'm aware of the meaning, it was being used as a means of discrediting anything that may be considered offensive to black people. I will grant them the removal of ****** because the word has a reputation for being used as an insult. It's all the other stuff that's so tiring.

Newbie123

One of my collegues told me the best PC comment he'd ever heard last week. Basically he was in a boardroom having a business meeting and one of the secretarys came in and asked if they wanted coffee? so my friend says yes I'll have a black coffee.

I'm sorry says the girl but you can either have it with or without milk, we are not allowed to call it black coffee because it is offensive!!! WTF ! He was truly gobsmacked !

So remember if your ordering a new car in black you'll have to order it in the opposite of white! (D'oh I bet you can't say that either because it's offensive to white people!)
You are having a laugh right ?

But I suppose it reminds me of the time one of the girls (Am I allowed to say that or should I say Female Co-workers ?) I used to work with had her daughter excluded (Suspended not PC anymore ??? WTF?) from school for three days for saying she could not see the blackboard. Her friend was not excluded for three days in another classroom for calling the board in use a whiteboard and

My girlfriend is just about to take delivery of a Rav4 in Black, I wonder what the PC brigade would have to say about the fact that the Subaru Justy, crap as it was, was available in Superior White

I never realised that 'Partner' was for PC. I have been going round asking people why the call Girlfriend, wife etc 'Partner'.

My feeling is if it's Black, it's Black. If it's White, it's White.

Mice_Elf,

When my window cleaner comes round, the card he leaves through the letterbox states that "Your clear panel hygienist has visited today"

Then again, he IS taking the p*** somewhat, I'm sure.

Coffee

I went to a cafe and asked for coffee without cream. The waitress said they didn't have any cream, would I have it without milk?

Personally I believe that if the Idiots that run the UK, Europe and the rest of the world chanelled as much energy into real issues like Health, Education and Law and Order as they do into making sure we don't upset Tiny minded Do-Gooders and Religious Nutters then the we'd all be happier people. Globally.

It's a Bloody Joke these days. Half the crap thats spewed out of Downing Street and the EU makes me ashamed to be British.

From what used to be a Great Empire we're now a piddling little State run by foreigners, have our strings pulled by the F'king Americans and trampled over by minority groups.

Laughing Stocks half the time......

And mark my words..... It ain't Going to get any better.

Going back to "Love thy Neighbour" - the programme, not the philosophy, I believe a lot of the furore that blows up over humour being politically incorrect is down to very dim people confusing the object of the humour with the subject of the humour. Sophisticated people realise that most of the humour comes from laughing at the preposterous views of a complete ********. The language used is rightly unacceptable nowadays because those words have been used with real hatred between one section of the populace towards another. Similar howls of outrage were raised at the Brass Eye Paedophilia programme. No-one in their right minds could find the reality of paedophilia humourous or entertaining - that wasn't the point. The subject of the humour WAS paedophilia, but the OBJECT of the humour was the reporting of it, the scaremongering that can end up with someone being burnt out of their house as a result of unfounded rumour. The subject was chosen precisely because it was emotive in the extreme, and should be handled responsibly by EVERYONE in the media.
