have you ever paid for professional photos?
I've been a Professional Photographer for the last 20+ years, although I mainly lecture now. Anytime you want some advice on how to get started, or what it's really like, let me know.

Cheers

I used to work with a guy (in IT) who used to be an advertising photographer. He used to rake it in, but apparently the bottom fell out of the market in the early 90's? Not sure what it's like now.

A design engineer is a highly respected degree. You should be asking your university to assist with career options.

Probably not in your league...but yes I loved my job. I owned and ran an old fashioned type Hardware store. Ran it single-handed for a few years then my fella came along, but it got too much. With over 118,000 lines to watch over and keep track of and no computer stock control....it almost exploded me poor little brain. I came out of it last year in November and am now just about ready to find another job, part time...... Don't think I'll ever find anything so enjoyable but I guess I should just be grateful for the time I had there.

Do I enjoy my job? Irrelevant. I'm an IT contractor, which means whoring myself out for the most money

Dave: Somehow I doubt my university would be very interested now, I graduated back in '97! I've been in the electronics industry since, doing a whole range of stuff from packing the products into boxes through to board-level design and simulation. The design group I was part of broke up at the end of last year, hence the new job.

carl: I don't blame you - I certainly feel that there's a place for doing whatever job you can get that pays the most, especially early on. That's what's keeping me in my current job, after all. I'm just finding more and more that I can't haul myself out of bed in the mornings, knowing that I have a long day full of thankless tasks ahead of me before I get any time to myself. I just want to spend a greater proportion of my waking life happy

Well I'm afraid it's not so "early on" for me -- I'm 30 now. I often think that I should find something simpler, but I'm too materialistic and I have an expensive wife

Wink

*snigger* Thankfully Mrs C is fairly self-sufficient. Shame the cars aren't, nor the camera bag, nor the PC...
