If the 106 and VTS are so good at corners why do I see lines of smashed ones in breakers yards ?

Of course we never see smashed Impreza's or Golf GTi's do we...

Driver error mate, plain & simple. No matter how good a car is, it's only as good as the person in the drivers seat!

J4cko my pal is getting a custom made exhaust for his mark 2 8 valve Gti on Friday what do you recommend for max gains? I noticed the standard one has 2 silencers in the mid section! You got any experince with modding these cars, what would you do after exhaust?

Mine has a Magnex full system which freed it up quite a bit, it is however fairly loud and looks a bit Max Power but then when you have a MK2 GTI thats a look thats hard to avoid !

Power wise a rolling road session is advisable once you have it fitted, had mine done when I put the exhaust and air filter on, they re-mapped as it was now lean at the top end, the difference was staggering and the before and after plots showed a gain of 18 bhp, they chucked some cleaning stuff through as well. It pulled from lower down and went on longer at the top end and it really felt like it was pulling hard.

Flywheel figure was 119 bhp comapred to 101 before, so from below par to a small gain on standard. It was running on normal Unleaded and the operator told me to put optimax in it as these engines seem to respond to it and offered to put it back on the rollers when I had filled up but I never got around to it.

I like the car and to be honest have driven a lot of expensive stuff that I didnt like as much, all bar the Scoob Terzo I drove.

Anyway the next car replacement is mine, wifey got a new Sharan TDi last year so its my turn next !

I for one am looking forward to the next, 'what the fvck was that!!' post on SN after another bugeye owner has been spanked by an out the box hot-hatch (cup or ctr btw)
Strange, Ive had 2 VTS's and a MINI Cooper S (one with 2 small tailpipes in center?) try to race me on duel carrigeways in my standard (cept WR Sport BB + Optimax) bugeye - didnt have much trouble with any of them.

One thing that did suprise me was that both the VTS's were harder to dispatch than the Cooper S. In all three cases I started out behind and ended up infront, just the ammount of road needed varied, but I'm not talking miles.

Never come up against a Cup or CTR but dont think i'd get 'spanked' :-) although they would prolly be a match there or thereabouts.

In terms of straight line performance the Mini Cooper S was a major let down IMHO. Its engine spec suggested it would have a lot more grunt thah it actually does.

Yeah, the Saxo & 106 are only 2 Star NCAP rated, so I'm glad I never smashed mine!!!

One bonus about the Cup is that as well as being quick, it is 4 Star rated, so you've got a much better chance of survival!
