Not really, in fact the exact opposite. As outlined above I have a wealth of experience working with the police and while *some* are OK the job tends to attract people who would be better off doing something else.
Let's face facts what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

I saw two police officers 'stop for a smoke' while on duty. I couldnt give a **** either way TBH - I am a smoker myself - let them smoke! If they are on 'the beat' having a smoke, that could be a bit cheeky - but if they are honestly stopped for a mo (hat off etc) then why bother? Its just another government employee taking a break

Same as the Forces, I don't believe uniformed Police should smoke in view of the people they serve.

This thread is comedy gold
Nacro you sad, sad, sad man, go and find something better to do that complaign about someone smoking. Most people get breaks where they go and smoke, maybe he was taking one? I can't believe there are people that'd complaign about something so trivial. I bet these are the same people who complaign about adverts and songs on the radio. Get a life.

Well said Nacro. Coppers reckon they are a law unto themselves and speed without their lights on, use mobile phones whilst driving etc etc and are basically some of the biggest hypocrites on the planet. Nothing to do with smoking but if i thought i could drop a copper in it i'd take the opportunity like a shot.
Post the photo, if he's doing nothing wrong as most on here suggest then what's the problem!?

Moderators please put this in the muppets forum "
LOL- firstly you are trying to whinge to the moderators in precisely the manner you are decrying.
Secondly I was joking for the most part- although I have to say the police do ask for it sometimes.
Thirdly the muppet forum don't want stuff "dumped" on them.

You sound like a complete tw@t mate.
If you can drop a copper in it you will?
I bet you would be straight on the phone wanting their assistance when you are in trouble.
Grow up you sad little maggot.
Jason.

Surely that's the kind of response a police officer/would be police officer should NOT make? The them and us attitude is to blame for a lot of the friction between the police and the public. Surely best to turn the other cheek?

Nacro.
It really gauls me when peole make comments like he did which openly states his dislike for the police.
Yet if he was in a tight situation who would he call?
Double standards are IMO worse than open honesty.
Where do you stand then?

Well that's a difficult one- I worked closely with the police for a number of years.
That's given me a postitive/negative outlook on the culture within the force. I see a LOT of good people in the job and also a number of a55holes like any walk of life. The problem is there is to much self interest and protectionism within the police- not to say double standards.
I'll give you an example, I went on a stag to A'dam- mostly firemen but a few policmen as well. Who do you think were straight out on the streets buying crack and coke? You guessed it the police. When I asked them about their double standards they said "yeah we'd nick you in the UK for this but over here we can do whatever the f*ck we want"- thing is I know they are both into coke back at home as well. They are only too happy to bust other people for it though. I've been in other situations where I've seen police officers knowingly break the law.
This is in addition to the institutional bias within the force. Don't get me wrong I'm aware that this does not apply to everyone so if they are seen to be breaking the law or acting in a manner unbecoming to a law enforcment officer then why not report them?

There will always be a few bad apple in every barrel.
However the policeman in question may have been on a break and then perfectly allowed to have a cigarette.
Our local nick ststes that all officers must take their smoking breaks in the rear courtyard near the custody entrace away from public gaze but different forces have different rules of conduct in these matters.
My real issue was with the people that said "make posters", "Send it to the cCheif Inspector", etc. These people were not interested in any of the facts surrounding the original post. They just wanted to see a policeman get into trouble.
Pointless really. He may have been in a designated area on a designated break.
Tyese are the people that really get my back up as they like to give the impression that they hate the police and want to see their downfall but still rely on their services when they are in trouble.
I agree with your drug comments and think that these officers should be singled out oif the force as this is not acceptable. However as i am sure you appreciate, this is not an easy task to do.

sad, sad, sad.
just spent 10 months and 8 court appearances fighting a speeding offence, but still couldn't be bothered if they smoke or not, as long as it's somewhere i'd be allowed to smoke too... eg not a petrol station etc...

I have to admit I made those comments but they were not taken in the spirit they were intended ie as a joke (obviously as they are so ridiculous). Perhaps I should start using smilies in my posts.

Some very smallminded people on this thread.
I see. so if I saw you driving sill then it would be fine for me to shop you. Or maybe if I see you drop litter. Yes I get it now.
I really hope that you are a model citizen. Never broke a rule at work? Always on time are you? I doubt it. Try putting your own house in order before making such transparent and blatantly pathetic sweeping comments.

I am in the process of joining up so I have a keen interest in the opinions of people on here.
It seems to me from your comment that you are either very imature or still believe in the "Them and Us" status.
These people are only doing a job. That is keeping the peace and preserving law and order.
If you think that by treating them in a pleasant and curtious manner and not as another life force is sucking up the I suggest that you start doing some growing up.

stuck up a badger
since you have a keen interest in opions heres mine
most of the police i have come across are rude,
lacking in judgement,power ego tripping,thoughtless,
the type who were bullies in school.
may be for you
also i have no criminal record and no axe to grind
this is how i have seen in the last 5 years or so
granted some are better than others, I did say most,
the younger ones seem to be the worse.
best of luck with your chosen career.
