Stuffed Badger, how old are you because you come across as very naive. It speaks volumes that you're not yet in the force coz you haven't got a clue have you. Just ask the people on here that have got any experience of having their car or house broken into, coppers generally don't give a stuff, are rude, arrogant, etc etc.
A few bad apples, give me a break, what other workforce is full of racists, conmen, paedofiles, drug abusers, drink drivers, pimps, thugs etc etc. Can't think of one can you?
By the way your response is a classic. Is that how you're going to deal with controversy throughout your career. You'll learn with age and maturity.

that sums up how this country has got its self into such a mess.
Its little things like this that get the publics back up. He was wearing the Queens uniform. On duty outside a Police station....

We were never allowed to smoke, eat or drink in public whilst in uniform (RAF), unless it was at some sort of organised event.
They'd let us eat and drink then (how generous) but never smoke.

sbradley - you're spot on there mate - take a cross section of any profession and you will find relatively the same % of weirdo's as you would find in the police force, army etc.
well i'm not suppsed to smoke at work if the public can see me and i dont wear a uniform - WTF theres no way I'm listening to the pr1cks here that say I cant - I can do what I want so I dont give a toss if I see a policeman/woman smoking as long as they stub it out before entering my house or car!

Not really relevant, but i'll say it anyway...
I personally have a lot of respect for the old bill.
They hunted down and banged up the bloke who put a 7" slash down my face, they got Bravo2Zeros motorbike back, and probably thousands of other results along the way.
Now, i have at least 3 relatives in the force, and some of the stuff they tell me about gives me the creeps.
(these are not young plods glamming it up, but one being a mature sergent!!!)
I have also witnessed on countless occasions, the abuse , the assaults (people & kids spitting and lobbing things at them)
Respect for anyone in this country has gone out of the window, so in my eyes, if a copper wants to give a thug a good kicking, then the yobbo probably deserved it!!!
I dont know where the state of the country is going, but it looks mighty bleak from here.
The services in this country, be it drunken nurses, card-playing firemen, corrupt cops, or dodgy doctors, all manage to pull it off when it comes to the crunch, and get RESULTS!!!
[end of two cents]

Ive read this post with interest, and there have been a number of replies were people have said "when you in trouble you phone the police". Well Ill be honest here Ive had a car knicked, Ive had my house robbed, and yes I phoned the police.
But not because I wanted help, or expected them to find my stuff or even catch the thieves. But simply because thats what your supposed to do, or you dont get a crime ref number.Imagine contacting your insurance and they ask for your ref number, "oh I didnt phone the police, because I dont like them".

Yoza, are you saying thats the only reason you called the police???
i don't get your point!!!
if a criminal act has taken place, it should be reported..!!!!
- simple.
a) to catch the thieving gits
b) the slim chance of getting stuff back
c) the crime rate figures
d) for your benefit, the insurance claim.

I think the Law in all its forms is suffering at present through the fact that the punishments handed out these day's lack credible deterent factor for smaller crimes.

Yes that is true Sean but this is not the fault of the Police.
This is the fault of the CPS and the judges and magistrates.
The police can only arrest, investigate and then present the facts before the CPS. They then decide if to prosocute or not.
Most police officers you speak to will tell you that they are frustrated with the CPS's soft approach as thay work hard to build a case and then the CPS fails to follow it through and to prosocute.

Agree Jase, till you give the police a credible back up in terms of appropriate sentences and better CPS proceedures they are always going to be frustrated

BB.
I only phone to get a crime ref number.
I have no faith in the police whatsoever.
And as for the catching the thieves, or getting your stuff back, get real.
I dont want go into each breakin Ive had but just a taster :-
My car was broken into at the local train station, sterio,CD player accoustic shelf and amps stolen. Window and windsceen smashed and dashboard destroyed. Now then this wasnt the fault of the police I know that.
But when my Girlfriend returned to the car, she phoned 999 to report the incident as you do, and was told that she had the wrong number! "you need to phone the British Transport Police".
This was due to the car being on the station car park.
Then we got a call from the SOCO, Four days later asking if he could brush the car for prints, it had been in the repairers for four days and was nearly fixed.FFS.
My house was burgled, forced the patio doors, stole most of my property, phoned the police explained whats happened, etc.
Was told that a patrol would be with me ASAP, phoned at 1500hs on a Wednesday, police arrived 1300hrs Friday.
I could go on and on, but I cant be bothered.

i agree the police are a bit crap.
we were driving home from work a bit ago n the rear n side windows were steamed up quite heavily and a police car stopped us n charged the driver for not wearing a seat belt? at this time he was wearig a seat belt and they could clearly see he was and accused him of puttin it on as he pulled over (he had it on all the time) but they were havin none of it, they just decided they were bored and wanted to fine someone.
on another occasion me and a group of friends had just been to a gig at a local venue and were waiting outside when along comes a group of scallies (kevs, whatever wear kappa pants tucked into socks burberry style caps etc) and start to threaten a couple of our number and then follow through and attack them, police car arrives mid scuffle (was across the road n could see the whole thing from start) and arrest a couple of my mates and let the scallies wander off free.

So what if a bloke outside his place of work has a smoke, anyone who is offended by his actions needs really need to grow up and get a life,
Luke, what does it matter to YOU if the guy insnt allowed to smoke there, did you stake the place out?

Smoking..
I was trying to cross a main road near home the other week, I stepped onto the rd to see a police van howling up towards me with his siren / flasher on - so I stepped back.
He then slows down and turns of siren/flasher- so I step out and start to cross the rd.
The policeman then decides to speed up again - this time no flasher or sirens, by this time I am out near the middle of my side of the rd - so I step back.
As the police man gets close at about mach 7, I point to the top of his van and moth the word "siren"
The copper driving, then leans across his passenger and offers me the full on 2 fingered salute ( rabbits head , feckoff etc....)![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
feckin charming eh?

don't care if they smoke or anyone else smokes, in fact I don't care if they burn either...no smoke without fire should be the rule for all filthy tab suckers, in uniform or not.![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
