Question for Chris. And yes I too support good officers like you, but when my stolen scoob was found in a "parked mode"(I still haven't elaborated on details), your colleagues immediately recovered it to a holding garage. Wouldn't it have been useful if it was left there and waited to nab them when they came back (without going into details of how this could be done)? Yes I know you are seriously under resourced, but surely it would be worth it - leads to their backers, saves police time on future attempts, etc (they were very much pros/experienced)?

Sorry not to respond sooner Chris,
PC crashed. Bloody Microsoft, still it's nice to find something with poorer performance than our Police Force![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Obviously any bad experience whether it's cars or coppers has an impact and and can colour your judgement. Equally the sight of a neighbours Panda car parked on his drive for lengthy periods could do the same but I try not to jump to conclusions![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
In fairness if they'd got to that little old dear in minutes and marched the toerag off to nick no one would hear of it My own misfortune covers over a decade and four distinct geographical locations. So it's not individual Bobbies or but a more fundamental flaw with the system. Which till now I assumed gave low priority to car crime and burgulary.
The increasing focus upon the need for vigilance, burglar alarms trackers etc. is surley tantanount to an admission of defeat. How long before we get American style private sector policing? A group of "Doormen" even offered a service to our estate which looked viable until scuppered by the local force.
Will still be calling 999, but my actions won't be based on presumed assistance from the constabulary.
I'm sure you and many of your collegues are motivated by a desire to make a difference. After all there are easier ways to earn a living and I have no problem with individual officers (well only a couple of 'em

Here we go again!!
Question, question, questions!!
Firstly i work in Manchester, in the bit that always gets on TV for the wrong reasons!!
As for sitting on a stolen to catch the offenders we are not (can't remember the legislation) allowed too. As soon as a vehicle is found we recover it asap. It would be good to sit on it but imagine the uproar if we lost it again, at the end of the day we have all had pursuits called off or terminated them ourselves (you've seen nothing until you've been behind someone going for it and just not slowing down at all going over traffic light junctions on red, FRIGHTENING!)and it's just not worth the risk.
As for an admission of defeat, YES! Unfortunately i cannot come and sit outside you're house watching your imprezza 24/7. I'm a firm believer of helping yourself (mines in Falcon now having 3 new alarm systems put on it!)and if you can afford a decent car you should afford a decent alarm system.
As for the damage to the wing incident.... ????????? That's as clear a case of criminal damage as you'll come across and i do not know why the little darling was not charged, wouldn't have happened here.
Unfortunately i feel there is a great deal of difference between forces, some are busy as ours and some have hardly anything to do at all. The answer is to report everything, this government has radically changed the way crime is reported and we all fully expect at least a 75% increase in reported crime at the end of thew year. Perhaps then something will be done, or maybe they'll just hide the results!!

Chris,
Thanks, it was just an abvious thought but I see/have seen the problem at your end - though I feel it would have been worthwhile (without going into details, we would have of course "interfered" with the car first). But, subject closed.
Can I suggest you give up the day job and run for Parliament and sort this out - the way "things are going" you would stand an excellent chance - you would get my vote!
Cheers

getting pulled over and given a bollocking for breaking the limit on a dangerous stretch of road will in most cases have the same effect (alert the driver to the hazard) as handing out a fixed penalty and points.
re tony m - shame he didn't get the others too.

Hey Chris,
Interesting comments.
It seems that most of the rants you get on here are along the lines that not all police are as interested as you obviously are in crimes relating to our subarus - and therefore you'll find a lot of annoyed people with chips on shoulders. There are 100's of such stories on this board....
Then there's the issue with the whole speeding/gatso/use of police resources to good effect issue that a lot of us have... as we drive fast cars and bikes![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Glad you decided to "come out" and take the abuse
Nice to hear from "the other side of the fence".

There's quite a history to this. Not least a certain wannnabe purporting to be an senior officer and readily proffering information and guidance to the masses

You're not far away and our paths may cross sometime, hopefully in a purely social context.
Enjoy the Scoob and try not to let work dominate your involvement with the bbs.
