Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar

This reminds me of my best DJing experience - at Bar M in San Antonio, Ibiza in '98 on the Radio 1 weekend. It was the Thursday afternoon and i had the whole bar, most of the beach and a few in the sea rocking.

FSOL - Papua New Guinea

Reminds me of my youth

UB40 - 1 in 10 - I was a kid in Brum at the time...sums up Thatcher's Britain perfectly
No Woman No Cry - Bob Marley - obvious reasons
Get Up Stand Up - Bob Marley - truest song of rebellion
Biko - Peter Gabriel - most haunting tune ever about the murder of Steve Biko
Gold Dust Woman - Fleetwood Mac - could have been 1 of 3/4 off Rumours when all the band members were splitting up from long-term relationships, Stevie Nicks at her best
Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd (album version)
Johnny Was - Stiff Little Fingers - Victimof the troubles in Ireland
The Card Cheat (or Clampdown) - The Clash (best band ever)

Maybe I'm giving away my age here !!

There are a few which spring to mind, but a fairly recent tune which gets my vote is 'Dance With My Father' by Luther Vandross.

This was written about his Father who he lost when he was a young lad.If you've lost anybody close, or are a Parent of a young child (in my case), this song will send a shiver down your spine!

Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around ‘til I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved

If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever end
How I’d love, love, love
To dance with my father again

When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way, I would run from her to him
He’d make me laugh just to comfort me
Then finally make me do just what my mama said

Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me

If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever end
‘Cause I’d love, love, love
To dance with my father again

Sometimes I’d listen outside her door
And I’d hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me

I know I’m praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don’t do it usually
But dear Lord she’s dying
To dance with my father again
Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream

Top thread btw.

TTT for a wicked thread - one_lung the Frusciante song is from Niandre Lades and Usually just a T-shirt (although it is only on the cassette version). You may know it as untitled #3 if you have the CD!

Eye of the Tiger (cant remember by who) - 1st time i heard it was whilst watching Rocky 3, and Micky his trainer died, just like Micky was to Rocky(), my Grandma was my inspiration, she sadly passed away a few days before i watched this film. I was only 10 and, it still sends a shiver down my back, and makes me want to take on the world.

Angels - Robbie Williams - Our wedding song, although the band got it wrong, should have been another, but cant remember what.

Summer of 69 - Brian Adams - I changed this to summer of 99, as that was the best summer of my life.

Couple of others, that i cant name, but know when i hear them, like the first song i heard when my 1st son was born.

Steven

ps i am someone who just switches the radio on, and if i like it, i like it, if i dont i dont, they still get listened to.
