That doesn't make sense. The product is already out and being sold in Europe (or parts of it).

Why then should BP exclude the UK from the sale of 100RON when it ought to be one of their best markets to sell the product?

Hey, us bog-men in Northern Ireland don't even get Optimax. I suppose it's all down to marketing which seems, in my view, to be company speak for stitching the punters up.

its most likely all down to tax actually.

The rest of Europe have 98RON SUL, we have 97RON SUL or Optimax, which is as far as tax is concerned, a 97RON fuel.

The higher the base octane rating and sulphur content of the fuel, the higher the tax the petroleum companies have to pay in the UK. Why do you think the UK swapped from 98RON SUL to 97RON SUL and everywhere else in europe didnt? Think about it!

Fill up in europe and the fuel smells completely diferent, it smells like it used to 3 years ago here, UK has diferent composition of fuel than anywhere else in Europe due to tax legislation.

You will also find the FIA rules for F1 state that the fuel used has to be available in europe for sale, so they will select a small market (greece for example) and sell that fuel there.

I'm sure this is why Shell brought out Optimax - as their last SUL was not Ultra Low Sulpher - Optimax IS - maybe they're actually producing at a lower cost - & increasing their market share by advertising a better burn higher performance fuel.

Obviously shaken up BP though - looking forward to an imminent RON war - free market is great, when it works to our benefit - hopefully all PetroCos will be selling 100RON fuel soon, then I won't have to drive miles off track to find the only one in a 20 mile radius that does

Hi all,
Emailed BP re the fuel and this was there reply,

Dear Mr. Constantatos,
First of all, we would like to thank you for your interest in BP Ultimate, the premium unleaded fuel of BP.
Regarding your request, as you are already aware, BP Ultimate unleaded with 100-octane is currently available only in the Greek market. As far as other countries are concerned, we are researching opportunities in other markets, but as you may understand, if and when we launch in other markets is commercially sensitive and confidential, for competitive reasons. This applies to the UK market as well.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us again for any additional information

BP Ultimate

More Performance, Less pollution

Sooo guys lets not all get tooo xited. Even if the fuel did hit our shires, Mr Gordon Brown would have a field day lol.

Cheers

Gerry

This is getting confusing...does anyone have actual hard /written evidence that BP ULTIMATE is 100 RON?
If you check out the BP website it actually states that the new fuel (ULTIMATE) is now available in New Zealand and is in fact 98 RON !!!
If it's the same as OPTIMAX then whats the excitement over?

I hope it is true, but until it appears on the forecourt with the 100 RON sticker on the pump i shall remain an OPTIMAX customer.

Here's hoping....

steve.

I've been told that it will be 98 RON and not 100
Bolloks to BP, I'll only switch from Optimax if they up the ante and go 100 RON. If we all did the same perhaps they would have a re-think and introduce 100 RON?
I think my "source" doesn't know as much as he/she claims!
