It ran fine straight away and I've used about a quater of a tank (very quickly!) before noticeing it's a bit lumpy off throttle. Had a couple of little pops too but nothing major. Think it may be running rich as there's a strong petrol smell from the exhaust fumes.

Right, I've had a think and I've come to the conclusion that I don't have a feckin clue about the intricacies of the internal combustion engine and I would be of no use to you whatsoever. In fact, worse than that, anything I suggested would more than likely be completely wrong and would probably unleash the twin-arsed cup-footed beast from deep within your sump to rear it's ugly head and shout "Borewash ya bastids", as experienced by the Brynster.
Best you wait a while and someone who knows their **** from their elbow will come along and provide a plausible explanation for what you are experiencing, coupled with sound advice and a description of what remedial action should be taken to ensure the longevity and continued efficiency of your engine and its ancilliary components.
That said, if you have any questions about interior design and colour co-ordinated accessorising, then I'm your man and would be more than happy to assist.

Time to leg it - it's been a long day and I've had to endure a 3-way conference call with a French guy in Germany and a German guy in Poland Ever so slightly confusing for me

Both on their way back down, Ads has a 1hr start on Filfy.
No dramas, both pilots happy with their machines (and slipping clutches !)
Ads face was a picture when a boost hose popped off though

My advice to the guys today was that in the interests of engine longevity on a tuned car, they shouldn't run them flat out in top gear too often.
The reply was "its not that often, just once a week" !!
