Ha! Ha! Ha! Lada Riva 1500 estate (what a heap of crap by the way) bought one for £350 ran it for 12 months sold to a Russian sailor who saw me parking it in Liverpool, for £600, only time I have ever made money on a car!
Brave admitting to have owned one on here though

I would ignore it - even if you want to sell. If you are a true enthusiast you do not just place a note at a random Scooby you see, do you? Also the emphasis on cash...of course you would expect to pay cash for a second hand car. It all sounds too dodgy. Don't get involved, honestly. I work in PR and have smooth sales people ring me up all day. They keep you on the phone for hours.

Why not. I have done both. Had "Do you want to sell" notes left on my cars and once or twice I've left a similar note on a car I was interested in. It can pay BOTH ways!! I operate on the basis that most people who do this leaving a non-mobile number are almost certainly genuine.
Filling up my Montego turbo recently towing a 4-wheel trailer with Maestro Turbo on board, two drivers also filling up at that petrol station came up to me and asked if the Maestro turbo was for sale. Again at a garage, I casually asked another driver what MPG he was getting from his MG Turbo. Long story short - He told me the car was for sale as he was going to work abroad and within a minute the deal was done ...... two happy bunnies!...

My brother has put notes on cars like that on many occassions. He sees one he likes and leaves his number. Bought a few like that now. TBH he doesnt ever expect to hear from someone. Just bin the note if you arent bothered about selling. Otherwise what harm a call to the number? Take usual precautions as advised above.

Even if it is a mobile number, I don't see the problem.
If I were leaving a note on a strangers car cos I wanted to buy it, I'm not sure I would disclose my home number at first.
Leaving a mobile number gives both parties certain security in the first instance....
